Microsoft SmartGlass is Dumb, Wii U will set standard

Greg Bargas of GAMINGtruth.com has some harsh words when it comes to the Microsoft SmartGlass when comparing it to the Wii U.

smart glass allows you to use two controllers for the same game, and all you have to do is alternate the use of each controller throughout the game. The best part is no buttons! How could that NOT be bad?? lol

smart glass is stupid. The gamepad seems good. I think PS Move should be worked on some more because they could gain some potentially unique IP. I want more Wii motion plus in the wii u gameplay, and i have never tried kinnect because it was expensive when it launched, and i just forgot about it

Smart Glass is about being your remote control for your Xbox, it works across all major smartphone OSes, places the Xbox at the core of the living room experience and will provide some genuine functionality.

The Wii U places a cheap, low resolution, single touch, resistive touchscreen onto a single oversized controller.

The crappy tablet is core to the Wii U experience.

And why on earth would you want to play games on your phone? You wouldn't want to play them on the Wii tablet either. You're like the couple that complain that the food was terrible and yet the portions were too small.

On what grounds do you judge SmartGlass as a good tablet and Wii U's controller as a bad one? First of all, you've played with neither. The SmartGlass doesn't even have buttons; how the hell can it be used as an appropriate and viable control scheme for any 360 game that isn't Halo Wars?

Yes I would want to play games on the Wii U tablet; wanna know why? Because of the funny things on the sides called, sticks, buttons, a d-pad and these cool inventions on the back called triggers. I hate isolated touch based gameplay. The whole reason I like the 3DS and Vita is because those devices provide more options than just a flat screen I have to put my fingerprints on.

I refused the offer to get an iPhone because I don't wish to support that kind of product. I had an iPod Touch for about a year and it sat around my place doing next to nothing. The most I ever used it for was Netflix and YouTube and I can already get one of those on my 3DS.

Oh, and by the way; I've been purchasing all of my game consoles myself since I purchased my PS3 way back when. I bought my own 360, PS3 my own 3DS and so on. You couldn't PAY me to get an iPhone. I'm perfectly satisfied with my current phone and I don't really need an iPhone for anything. The apps are mostly pointless (or scams) and I already have gaming handhelds.

All it will take is an accessory that has analog sticks and buttons on each end that has adjustable grip and can latch around various screens. Once that is available it's just like a Wii U.

that is where it falls down though. it requires another purchase specific to your device. MS cannot put any sort of focus into that concept when not everyone will buy the addon. it would be like releasing a console in 2 versions, 1 with hdd, the other without and then releasing games that are install only.

it is the reason many a peripheral has failed... right back to the early 80's when i got given an intellivoice peripheral for my intellivision. if it is not bundled then it has a tough job ahead.

aside from that, it is far from an elegant solution and more a cheap tack on whose future lies in a bargain bin somewhere. it will never be a decent controller replacement.

I'm not even really interested in Smart Glass. It's just one of those features i won't be using like Kinect or PS move. I just like the regular controller.

i imagine it will be used for additional info more than control in games where only a traditional control will do. and you will use that if you have access to it as it costs nothing and gives something.

what a stupid headline...Xbox Smart Glass does everything WiiU does and then some...yet that is dumb, but Nintendo WiiU is great....

But, you can do the same thing with the xbox smart glass you can with the WiiU, but you can't do the same things with the WiiU that you can do with the smart glass...

If you think one of these are dumb...odds are since they are pretty much the same idea you think both are dumb...

The only difference between these ideas is the smart glass goes more in-depth...

Does Smart Glass let you play Xbox games? And if it does, where are those all important buttons that make a game play better on almost all occasions?

As far as I can tell, this is more of a pure gimmick for games than even Kinect. Even the Wii U has real controls, and the PS Vita for that matter.

Smart glass is lame....and it tries to fool you.
Using the E3 example....why would I wanna watch the map in my smart touch pad or phone.....while watch game of thrones? I'm watching it because I'm WATCHING it!!! Stupid.
Let's take it a step further and have theatres hand ticket holders cheap touch devices while watching the movie! Because that's not distracting.

WiiU is garbage too...same principle. Except now I can access my rpg inventory or a map for "insert" fps here. Forget the fact that gamers have been trying to eliminate lag since forever. Now you'll be able to generate local lag! Everytime you distract yourself to look at the pad.

The rest of the horror that is wiiU is elemtary.

Do I want my game controller to play video games...no. It is a controller to serve the purpose of controlling not playing. Now if MS would offer all their games that you own on the Xbox in digital form for mobile and allow you to use the cloud storage to load saves you could take your games on your mobile phone and that would make sense. I can already use my Xbox controller with Android ICS so now I just need the games. I am pretty sure my phone is almost as powerful as my Xbox.
