Diablo 3 Forces Korean Government To Ban All Virtual Item Trades

"The times aren't getting any better for Blizzard. The company's latest venture has seen them go from one of the most respected video game developers and publishers to one of the most loathed, in just under a month."

Blizzard didn't "force" them to. The goverment decided it should happen, Blizzard would WANT them to be able to do it, this is completely unrelated to Diablo (apart from the fact that you can do it in the game).

Good headline for attention.

vortis4344d ago

LOL, dude did you read the article? The ban comes in from all the out of hand bot farming and gold farming happening in D3 RIGHT NOW. The Culture Ministry sees it as distracting and disruptive to cultural society and that it has nothing to do with having fun in the game.

Did you read the article? Nobody mentions Diablo in any of the info, apart from the AUTHOR.

"“The main purpose of the games is for entertainment and should be used for academic and other good purposes,”"

No Diablo, unless I missed that academic chapter where they teach you things.

"$43,000 fines to anyone who is caught breaking the law or engaged in automated bot farming or virtual item trades for real-life money, with potential jail time for up to five years. "

No mention of Diablo again. It is only the fact that Diablo launched its RMAH around the same time as the bans that the author is even using this claim. I'm not sure how 'in the know' you are with this subject, but 'slaves' and bots have been doing this in games for YEARS. If anything the RMAH would be fighting AGAINST these people as the more people being able to sell the items means lower prices, forcing away those who are trying to do it for a living.

Or I could be totally wrong, and the Korean Government just enforced the worlds fastest law in a matter of days for a video game...

Edit: Just to add:
"For online role-playing games, the law prohibits users from using programs that allow in-game characters to hunt and collect items without the need of a player controlling them."

http://www.koreatimes.co.kr...

That is the source the author uses, notice how much they talk about Diablo there? Welcome to the real world, where journalists will make up headings just for attention, as I stated in my first post.

kostchtchie_4345d ago

anyone who controls the drop rate % in games should not be allowed to have RMAH

Bimkoblerutso4345d ago

Yeah, that ain't right. That's exactly why I will NEVER be using the RMAH.

Trebius514345d ago

its actually an interesting read, kind of. I didnt know some of those statistics about South Korea.

hazelamy4345d ago

oh dear, what a pity, never mind. ^_^

An Update on This Year’s BlizzCon and Blizzard’s 2024 Live Events

Blizzard writes: "After careful consideration over the last year, we at Blizzard have made the decision not to hold BlizzCon in 2024. This decision was not made lightly as BlizzCon remains a very special event for all of us, and we know many of you look forward to it. While we’re approaching this year differently and as we have explored different event formats in the past, rest assured that we are just as excited as ever to bring BlizzCon back in future years."

Diablo 4 storefront being a cash grabbing shitshow does unironically attest to that, kudos.

kythlyn21d ago

Microsoft needs to be guiding Blizzard to be what it USED to be, not allowing it to continue to be the greedy bastardization of itself that it has become.

XiNatsuDragnel22d ago (Edited 22d ago )

Okay i will be interested if they become old Blizzard but might as well be dead.

Rynxie21d ago

They will never be old blizzard. Most of all the OG's left from developers to those on the top (even some decision making folks left).

Vits22d ago

Shame most of the people that made Blizzard what they were, have already left a while ago.

ApocalypseShadow22d ago

I was about to say this. How can they be blizzard when they're no longer blizzard from yesteryear?

blacktiger22d ago

Rare was the thing I lost heart

victorMaje22d ago

Exactly. Blizzard hasn’t been Blizzard for a long time.
Oh how the mighty have fallen.

Knightofelemia22d ago

Blizzard is not the same Blizzard like it use to be.

PassNextquestion22d ago

Were you expecting Microsoft to hire everyone that had left Blizzard long before they purchased the company...

Microsoft has let the Blizzard company they purchased continue to be the Blizzard company they purchased.

thesoftware73021d ago

Wow, PassNextquestion,

You fully understand what that saying means, unlike some people on here who just have to say negative garbage talk.

When someone says, "Just let *blank* be *blank*, "they are just letting them operate how they operate.

It's pretty much how Sony "let Bungie be Bungie."

This comment section is full of outright haters, but you have to "let N4G be N4G"

GamerRN21d ago

This site leans so heavily in one direction...

BISHOP-BRASIL21d ago

I don't think people commenting are necessarily blaming MS for anything here, this is just collective longing for what Blizzard/Vivendi was before Activision's meddling.
