Destructoid Review: Lollipop Chainsaw

Lollipop Chainsaw is the kind of game I dread having to review. Not because I necessarily dislike the game, and not because I foresee it becoming the center of yet another trite videogame review controversy. I dread these kinds of game because attempting to describe them is just so difficult. No words will ever truly do them justice, and no description can ever adequately substitute for a firsthand experience.

Experiencing Lollipop Chainsaw firsthand, however, is something that I believe almost all of you ought to do. Few products are as dedicated to fun as this, bearing as it does the soul of games that many of us gladly tossed quarters into at the local bowling alley, so many years ago. Its similarities to other games are abundant, but as many games as it can be compared to, Lollipop Chainsaw defies a suitable description. It is, at once, like so many titles out there, and so unlike anything else.

On top of it being only 4 hours, it looks really boring.

The only way I could possibly think why this game is getting 9s is because of the sex aspect.

People that haven't played the game have nothing constructive to say other than "it looks dumb".

I like it. Maybe it's because I loved No More Heroes 1 and 2, but I like the arcade style this game has.

The game is at least 6 hours long. One article saying otherwise does not equal fact. 
Can't believe people are so quick judge a game by its length and ignore the replay value, (in-game)unlockable content, alternate endings, etc.

And just to make my point, you can get a Trophy for beating 'ICO' in 2 hours.

Bull Shi. It's down to a 68 meta score already on the 360 and a 71 GR score.

When you see the first 1 or 2 reviews, that does not equal 'almost entirely across the board'. It means first few reviews and very likely to drop down into the 60s; as I said above about GamesRadar's score of 6/10 seeming much more likely where the general opinion of this game will end up.

dude the game is garbage. its four hours long and it does nothing better or new to whats already out there in the genre. the replay value is collecting outfits thats completely irrelevant to the story and adds nothing to the gameplay. im honestly confused to why its getting high scores but w/e if this is the type of games ya enjoy so be it. i can name 5 games off my head thats better.

Hell, even Dead Island is better. Lollipop chaninsaw is just a poor release of whats already other there. so Suda used what all developers use when their game is missing certain aspects "sex appeal"

If you bothered to read the article, this isn't a story-based game - it's an arcadey score attack/competition game.

Pac-Man and Tetris are two of the greatest games ever made and they have very short play through times (if you can make it to the end, that is).

oh wow, man. that really helps the case. a game thats really short, not really story driven, the collectibles are irrelevant, doesnt do anything new or better than its competitors. hm, really says why Suda51 is using that sex appeal. because all your doing is repeat, repeat, repeat. i have a lot of these type of games on my idevices and after 1 play through i get entirely bored of them. well, i now know i saved myself some cash. like i said, if this is your type of game, go for it, but from info i know about it and playing other games like this on my idevices, i know its not for me. this is definitely for kids.

This game is exactly like daisy mae's alien buffet for the idevices and it uses the same sex appeal gimmick. played it and was bored after like 30 mins or less.

People are entitled to have fun but is this the sort of game which is going to remembered 20 years from now as a definitive experience? Thats what should warrant a high score of 90% plus. A good, fun 4 hour hack n slash romp should not get anything more than a 7.

A score of 9-9.5/10 should be for a definitive experience, something truly groundbreaking but this really is just going to be forgotten in less than half a year when the blockbuster games are released.

At the end of the day, it's a game. While the industry is moving closer towards mature interactive storytelling, it shouldn't mean that the ridiculousness of a few games should ruin it. People are entitled to have fun. Games aren't films, and shouldn't be treated as taboo because they're different.

Did it ever occur to you that maybe the combat system is really good? It is a game after all and maybe at a glance it looks cheesy and overly sexualized but did it ever occur to you that the "magic" that this game has is the gameplay? I think with all these AAA games with good graphics, intellectual storytelling, and elaborate trailers people forget the days when games were just about gameplay.

It does look funny as hell, but not sure if id pay 80 for it. But, I cant judge till ive given it a shot, so ill rent it and see!
Edit: it doesnt look like a bad game at all, im just a bit iffy on the whole 4 hours to finish it
