IGN's Splinter Cell Blacklist Preview - Fearing Sam Fisher

IGN: "Sam Fisher is no longer hiding in the shadows. He’s taking the fight to the enemies of the United States in plain daylight, and he’ll do it by any means necessary. Whether through more traditional, conventional stealth tactics, or by blowing everything up in sight, the notion of variety and choice dominates the landscape of Splinter Cell Blacklist. That’s a good thing considering the formidable task at hand."

Sneaking around during the day. Hope there are more nighttime/dark levels so I can get me some sneaking in.

They’re now just supplemented by alternatives - alternatives that allow you to engage in large scale firefights, call in air support and generally unleash hell upon guys that could easy be killed in the darkness with a knife."

Dont count on it

Sad thing is that 90% of splinter cell fans are to slow to realize that you can play stealthy or all action like the guy on stage.

General Shrooms4344d ago

Looks like Chaos Theory will remain the best SC

FriedGoat4344d ago

90% of fans don't realise the voice actor has changed.

The game play angered me so damned much. Splinter Cell required actual skill to play, there was no "mark and execute", nor was Sam able to scale huge walls in only a matter of seconds, Assassin's Creed style.
There is no need to aim manually anymore, it's just a glorified quick time event with everything, and the A.I. didn't exhibit much in the way of intelligence either.

Sam drops down on top of a guy, and kills him in a loud sloppy manner, and guys who are -looking- at him don't do anything about it.

Jesus. This is not a splinter cell game. Pandora Tomorrow/Chaos Theory style gameplay will never come back, and I hate that realization.

firefoxprime4344d ago (Edited 4344d ago )

Never played a Splinter Cell title, but that gameplay was pretty cool.

Now...I really like those linked shooting scenes. My only concern, was that I didn't notice any button icons? You get me? Like there was no target pointer on the screen, until the chained sequence was over.

Trenta274344d ago

The series doesn't really use them anyway.

execution174344d ago (Edited 4344d ago )

sorta looks like a 1 man squad of Ghost Recon

except for the climbing aspects

come_at_me_bro4344d ago

Thanks for disappointing yet again Ubisoft.

Shadonic4344d ago

How is it a dissapointment?

Cosmo8114344d ago

A lot of people were hoping for a return to Chaos Theory type gameplay, as many preferred it to Conviction's more action-oriented gameplay, and didn't get what they wanted, hence the disappointment. I don't mind, I love both styles.

What's with Ubisoft and their superhero senior citizens lately (Ezio and Altair in AC: Revelations, Sam Fisher in the last couple Splinter Cells). 60 year old men shouldn't move like that. I remember Sam saying he was getting too old for this in previous games. That wall jumping was a pretty ridiculous suspension of disbelief.

You'd think after getting his daughter back he'd be smart and finally retire in peace. Story better be good. Would've been a good jumping on point for some new protagonists with Fisher assuming the Lambert role instead of going Expendables. But hey, Altair was doing parkour at 90, so who knows, lol. Oi.

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell - A Decade in the Shadows

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell has been out of action for a decade, so it's time to look back at 2013's Splinter Cell: Blacklist.

CoNn3rB248d ago

Sam Fisher is evidently the most skilled stealth operative because no-one has seen him in his own game for years

kevco33248d ago

10 years, in fact. He must be, like, 60 by now?

phoenixwing248d ago (Edited 248d ago )

why make an inspired game that takes effort when you can half ass it with multiplayer gaas games and filler filled assassins creed games?

That question up there is the reason you don't see splinter cell games

zarbor248d ago

Yup, another example that Ubisoft has no idea what they are doing.

MIDGETonSTILTS17248d ago

The entire mark and execute system belonged in another game.

It’s cool, but the polar opposite to how Sam Fisher initially handled.

The original trilogy made shooting very, very difficult, yet a viable option, which ultimately motivates stealth.

The mark/execute system makes shooting stupid easy, to the point of why would you even bother trying stealth as an alternative?

FYouDad248d ago

Because Ghost is the method fans of the series actually prefer? IMark and execute is never forced upon the player you liiterally never have to bother using it even once throughout Blacklist.

Tody_ZA248d ago

The sad part is that I actually really enjoyed the last game, Blacklist. It may have lacked the iconic voice but the gameplay was excellent, and blended stealth, action and a mix really great compared to most games, where none of the three options felt like the wrong way to play. I really hope they either produce a remake of the original game or a proper sequel.

Rikimaru-00248d ago

Isn't UBI Soft remaking splinter cell.

Sam Fisher Deserves Better

Alex S. from Link-Cable writes: "Ubisoft, we need to chat. Please, have a seat. Thanks. Ok, so I think you know why you’re here. No it has nothing to do with all those game delays, we’ll talk about that later. What? No it’s not about the Skulls & Bones and Beyond Good & Evil 2 falling off the face of the Earth, just listen. We need to talk about Splinter Cell. Don’t give me that look, you know this conversation needs to happen. The way you’ve treated the series, its fans and poor Sam Fisher himself is sad, infuriating and just plain disappointing and it needs to stop."

The Fish!!!

I'd love to see a remastered edition of those games as well as something new. It's about time.

UltraNova1488d ago

MGS is done, at least as we know it so it's now or never Ubi, give Fisher the reboot it deserves. And for Gods sake, don't you dare turn Splinter Cell into another Division/Ghost reckon online abomination instead of a SP focused steath action game!

Psychonaut851488d ago

You know they will though. This is Ubisoft we’re talking about

zachyBROosevelt1488d ago (Edited 1488d ago )

I would love a new splinter cell, maybe even a reboot at this point. Sam Fisher deserves it

Profchaos1488d ago

I think reboot the entire franchise the games were great but every time they try to make him human like a father or something it comes of as unbelievable

hiawa231488d ago

They added damn near every SC game to Xbox1X back compat enahnced list. That is a lot of Sam enhanced and I am loving it, but Sam deserves a new next gen game.
