I've always wanted to delve into the EVE universe, but EVE online really intimidates me. This seems like a good gateway.

I just got my code today. It's a lot like MAG in the EVE universe. The battlefields are good size and there are lots of weapons, vehicles, armor, etc to spend your earnings on. If you played MAG and liked it, you will probably like DUST. It's more about strategy and handles like MAG, not like CoD. I hate continually comparing it to MAG (which I loved), but it's really the closest thing to DUST... very similar.

Credits are really easy to come by in the alpha, but I don't know if that will be the case when it goes live. Seems like they'd make it a slower process if they want micro transactions.

The maps are comparable to the bigger Battlefield maps, or the mid size MAG maps, with multiple attack points making team play essential for success. The environments I played on are diverse in looks, which is great.

The game doesn't feature the best visuals, but it is alpha, but I don't really seeing it at Battlefield levels of visuals because it probably has to make some visual sacrifices due to so much going on online.

Spawning in battle is like in Section 8 or Starhawk, which is cool for being able to change tactics anytime during the battle. This is also important because, like I said, this game is about strategy more than run and gun.

Finally, there are some weird lag issues at times, but the game is still deep in development, and some features of the game are still locked off. Anyway, DUST 514 will be free so there can't be too much complaining. I see the game having a solid following when it launches.

Oh, if you want in the closed beta, go here and register. Took about 3 weeks, but I finally got a code.

Got my code the other day. Was gonna start the patch, but it was the same size as the game itself (1.6gb) so I figure I'll let it update over night.

can us Asian owners join too?

At least your code works -_-

I've been in the beta for a bit. The current maps are thew smallest ones in the game.

The amount of upgrades in the title so far is , well, staggering and this is considering only a small portion of the offerings are available for testing.

Also the manner in which the upgrades interact is unique. It isn't enough just to purchase an upgrade with earnings. There is also the CPU of your dropsuit to configure and how various loads across the CPU affect the over all performance of various systems. A new weapon system may have a higher overhead and thus affect the shields. Running certain spikes in the suit may prevent the use of weapons systems because of system allocation. It's a balancing act and one that works very very well.

Going onto the market, even the part that is implemented, is a treat because the variety is already showing in the game. As a long time Eve player I was very pleased to see Dust getting the same level of production as the Eve.

Thanx a lot, completely forgot to register for this, now I did. Good to know it may take weeks, this is one of those betas I don't want to miss. Last one was Starhawk, absolutely loving it now, before that it was the beta for MAG, my favourite online shooter for the past 2 years. Good to read Dust is kind of similar to MAG.

Yo, this chick in the podcast said that Dust needs to SAVE the PS3? WHAT?!?....The PS3 does NOT need saving. Yo whoever hosted this nut-ass podcast, correct that chick.

DA_SHREDDER4366d ago

I think what she was trying to say is that she wants to see COD numbers playing this game?

soundslike4367d ago

this should be interesting.

Findingcrybabies3027d ago (Edited 3027d ago )

wow. that's messed up. I don't play the game, but shutting it down and then a month after that showing your replacement game after you told the community screw you. LOL. Remind me to never support or play a CCP game. There are games that came out many years before this one and the devs keep the servers up for people.

samden3027d ago

It's on an old console and was nearly dead in the water when it launched. Not much of a community left to anger. Quite frankly, it sucked, and I'm excited to see what the next one will bring.

Tony-Red-Grave3027d ago

From launch to death Dust was only really ever a poor mans M.A.G. God I miss M.A.G and Valor.

Pongwater3027d ago

Dust 514 was free so I don't see your point, but I do find your name ironic.

@Tony - Yeah I still wish for MAG2, or even a PS4 remaster of MAG.

evergrace3027d ago

One of the worst shooter games on ps3.

noxeven3027d ago

I remember them saying it was supposed to contribute to eve and everyone was up in arms and that never happened and it just fell to the way side

Pongwater3027d ago

I'm not sure enough people ever played DUST 514 to say "everyone was up in arms", but there were in fact cross play battles between EVE and DUST.

It was a cool concept with some sizable flaws, but I'd be interested in a sequel that addressed some of those flaws. I thought I heard there was a PS4 version coming, but maybe that's my imagination.

tanukisuit3027d ago

It was definitely ambitious given the tech involved and how late into last gen we were. They tried though and cross gameplay is getting more relevant, so I think not all was lost...

Player-created DUST514 Trailer Calls For EVE:Phoenix

DUST514 players create EVE:Phoenix trailers as part of their #PortDUST514 campaign.

Since the announcement of the DUST514 sequel EVE:Legion by CCP Games at FanFest 2014, there has been an almost eerie silence about the project from the game’s creators. Domains and trademarks were registered, and later left expired, for the EVE:Legion brand, and the player base was left watching as no actual news or progress updates were given by CCP, even at the various player-gatherings or CCP’s own FanFest 2015.

The players of DUST514, both past and current, have rallied under a banner, #PortDUST514, led by Ripley Riley, and are using this hashtag on social media to highlight that there is still a desire for a sequel or a port of the game to a more recent platform than the Playstation 3.
Most recently, this has resulted in the players creating propaganda posters and “memes”, and even voiced trailers, for what they themselves have named EVE:Phoenix.

The player Pokey Dravon, with the help of several other players, created this trailer for the campaign.
