Gearbox: Nintendo has listened to Wii U feedback, controller specs will “be awesome”

Third-party Wii U developers have made it clear that Nintendo has been fielding feedback on the console. Better than this, though, is that the Big N actually seemed to listen.

This should make for some pretty cool info added to what we know about the WiiU already. And anytime the company that makes the hardware has the ear of the development community making suggestions and the companies it seems much better chance of making a better over all development product for the developer's. Sony's PSVita was i think a better development oriented product for 3rd party than any other playstation product before it aside from maybe the 1st playstation.

The WiiU seems to be going the same way with 3rd party developer's imput. I think it seems to be heading toward a great platform for 3rd parties. since they over at Nintendo are getting imput by them that can only mean good thing's.

showtimefolks4362d ago (Edited 4362d ago )

please nintendo give us a option to play with a standard controller which is great for all kind of games

dual analog sticks
buttons in right place
shoulder buttons

even if its the new wii-u controller with screen those stick need to be analog thumb sticks
and button layout is in wrong place

maybe i am old school maybe i am scared of a change but the reason i never bought a wii was because of its controller and if wii-u doesn't fit my scheme than i won't bother buying one

StanSmith4362d ago

The Wii controllers work on WiiU so you can use a classic controller pro on it too. They're comfortable just like a PS3 pad. The button layout is the same too.

quantae064362d ago

U can still use the regular classic controller pro for Wii U.

VanillaBear4362d ago (Edited 4362d ago )

Oh look at that Gearbox AGAIN

How am I not surprized

If they were realy listening that I expect a normal gamecube style controler to be included and all games will support this control scheme

TheModernKamikaze4362d ago

At least Nintendo is finally listening.

bothebo4362d ago

After how long are they finally trying to please their consumers rather than make money?

user54670074362d ago

They need a standard controler option for most core gamers who don't want to buy into the new gimmick they have or will ger bored of it later on down the line like the Wii's controls.

I really want to play the new Super Smash Bros game with a Game cube like controller, playing Brawl with my old Game cube control was amazing, the Wii controls just didn't feel right

dark-hollow4362d ago (Edited 4362d ago )

the difference between the wii u controller and the wiimote that it IS a standard controller!!!
the wiimote layout was weird, it didnt have nough buttons, it didnt have dual analog sticks ETC.

if playing on WII U controller is "gimmicky" then so does playing on the vita.

Hisiru4362d ago (Edited 4362d ago )

It's an standard controller with two analog sticks, 4 face buttons, L + R and 2 triggers just like the PS3 and x360 has.

I don't see your logic/point? Your comment makes you look like an ignorant (sorry to say that).

Just because it has a screen on it doesn't mean it doesn't have all the buttons for a standard controller.

donman14362d ago

Please explain to me how a standard controller configuration (same as the Xbox360 and same as the PS3) with the addition of a touch screen is a gimmick. What exactly is your point or are you just trying to find something to complain about a new console that u may have no plans on getting because if from Nintendo.

user54670074362d ago (Edited 4362d ago )

Jeez talk about people to conclusions

I just think planning ahead is a good idea

If theres people that don't like th new controler then why don't they offer another way for people to play

I don't think it's as gimmick like as the Wiis controls but it's something I feel gamers will get bored of and revert back to the controler options they always have. For example if you can touch your pad to bring up a map in the game people over time might just revert back to pressing an in game button, kind of like how people slowly went to the button ways when playing on Wii games.

Is it wrong for wanting an optional controler, you guys are making out like I want them to get rid of the new controler

@Patriots_Pride

Says the guy who's immature, has said trollish things in the past looking at your comment history and the fact you only have two bubbles

It's funny you call me a troll when theres nothing about my comment thats troll-like. Maybe you should look up the word. Your coming off as a 13 year old who has just heard of the word and wants to use it when ever he can, probably when someone says something going against your own opinions

"People like u make me sick - Sony is a good company but they are not gods."

Sony...

When did I even mention Sony or mke them out to be "gods"

OMG...and people are actually agreeing with you when I never even mentioned Sony. Come on people

People like you make me sick, making stuff up and being immature so they can start an argument. Your one of the types of people who plague sites like N4G

VanillaBear4362d ago

LOL Patriots_Pride

I love it when trolls try and call other people trolls

When did Mike even mention Sony ?

dark-hollow4362d ago (Edited 4362d ago )

"If theres people that don't like th new controler then why don't they offer another way for people to play"

if i didnt like the xbox 360 or the ps3 controllers, did sony or ms offered me official "alternative" controllers for people who didnt liked their original controllers?

"I don't think it's as gimmick like as the Wiis controls but it's something I feel gamers will get bored of and revert back to the controler options they always have. For example if you can touch your pad to bring up a map in the game people over time might just revert back to pressing an in game button, kind of like how people slowly went to the button ways when playing on Wii games."

or you can press "START" to bring up the map?
how to use the wii u controllers is up to the developers not nintendo! nintendo gave you 4 shoulder buttons, two analog stick, start and select, D-pad and 4 face buttons, and a touch screen on the middle. again did you got "bored" from the 360 or ps3 controllers? or will you get bored from the vita just because it have a touchscreen?

the wii u controller could play any ps3/xbox 360 game without any changing to the buttons mapping/layout BECAUSE IT HAVE THE SAME AMOUNT OF BUTTONS AND SAME LAYOUT! but here the catch, now with the touch screen they could add more options for the controller to play games. so the wii u controller can play like a traditional controller EXACTLY without any changes BUT the 360/ps3 cant play wii u games like they are because they dont have a touch screen.

the wiimote comparison is not the same, its layout is TOTALLY different than the traditional controllers and it had less amount of buttons.

I feel what you are saying, and your opinion is shared by many no doubt.

the problem your pointing out is pretty much a non issue at this point and i will tell you why.

In being a standard controller, maybe a lil bigger but as an example: i have used the PSVita for extended time in gaming and it's not any real problem as it would be for any other standard controller that i have use in the past this is not any thing really different in how it would stck up to extended use as your controller vs a standard game pad.

between bathroom breaks getting a snack here and there drinking a soda, it's nothing i have found to be any real change than what i have used already.

the change in screen controller's is not just Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft and pretty much every other consumer electronic's company are looking to make one. The trend was already established the smart devices such as smartphones and tablet's are already proving just that.

Nintendo like Sony and Microsoft and pretty much every freaking Consumer electronic's company are all moving that way. complaining about it now is pretty much moot. that does not mean your opinion is not shared by many, but it's just too late at this point.

the trend has been set and it's pretty freaking hard to reverse it at this point. All you can do is pretty much ride it out.

PopRocks3594362d ago

@VanillaBear

Only a troll could say something so dumb. And only morons could agree with him.

The Wii U's controller is a standard controller. there's simply a screen in the middle, a gyroscope and a microphone. It's not suddenly shit just because they put more functionality into it. Don't be such a nincompoop.

Well people bashed Nintendo a bit for telling us about the Wii U almost two years before its launch, I am starting to think they were just collecting feedback so that they could put out the best possible product that people will enjoy.

Summons754362d ago

ummm it was only announced last year, which is pretty standard for any company to announce hardware a year ahead of time

Skiskian74294362d ago

We first heard about Project Cafe on April 15th 2011.
Assuming the Wii U is launched on November 16-20th,
That's almost 2 years.
Rounding up, it's way more than just one year.

Summons754362d ago

@Skiskian

the OFFICIAL announcement was at last years E3 so therefore it has only been a year. If we are taking project names into account then microsoft and sony have been working on the next gen system since 2007...

"Well people bashed Nintendo a bit for telling us about the Wii U almost two years before its launch, I am starting to think they were just collecting feedback so that they could put out the best possible product that people will enjoy."

That's pretty much how i see it, also all three companies are doing just that now and i think pretty much they have no choice. The convergence of network connected devices anymore are directly tied to game consoles now that they need the direct imput from the 3rd party developer's, and publisher's to make sure there not missing something that the developer's may need to reach more than just your only platform. You cannot expect 3rd party developer and publisher's to make exclusive games anymore with out some real incentive.

And making sure your product can match up with what the developer's will need will make sure at least you have a chance to get the game without having to worry about your system not being able to get the game because of a real stumbling block over a function that may be standard on other platforms.

3rd party developer's and publisher's know that your company cannot buy exclusive right's or Exclusive Use of every such ip that comes across their desk, but atleast they can make sure your system could get their game so the 3rd party publisher or developer can at least get more revenue that way.

Oldman1004362d ago

I hope to buddha that the final controller has analogue sticks and triggers. It would probably end up being my favourite controller ever.

Sucitta4362d ago

The latest build is confirmed to have duel analog and triggers.

Oldman1004362d ago (Edited 4362d ago )

Ah damn, I guess I should have taken the time to word my comment better xD. What I meant to say is that I hope it has both: analogue sticks and analogue triggers(like the 360's).

I've seen the leaked photo of the controller with the analogues, but the "triggers" we've seen so far don't seem to have that much give and look like they're more in line with the R1 and L1 buttons on the dualshock. I guess we'll just have to wait for the official specs at nintendo's press conference.

I can't believe e3 starts tomorrow! This week is going to be quite awesome.

Skiskian74294362d ago

I heard that the latest build has just digital triggers.
But yeah, analog sticks are confirmed.

ImpliedDeception4362d ago

agreed, analog triggers would be awesome, but I don't think they're coming... :\

I just hope they swapped the resistive screen for a capacitive one. as having to use a stylus might be a bit cumbersome.

How Many More Victims, Like Garry's Mod, Will Nintendo's Hurtful Crusade Create?

Hanzala from eXputer: "As Nintendo takes out 20 years' worth of stuff from Garry's Mod, I watch in shock, thinking why it continues to hurt and discourage its fans."

RiseNShine9d ago (Edited 9d ago )

The irony that some of the most disgusting business practices come from companies like Disney or Nintendo, i can't even begin to understand what terrible damage was Garrys Mod making to Nintendo bottom line, imho they're getting pretty nervous about where they're heading in the future, handhelds are no longer something exclusive to Nintendo, from Steam Deck to many others, now you can play the latest games and pay a fraction of the price on Steam sales, so it's up to their exclusives, which just on their own would make hard to justify purchasing a closed overpriced hardware with outrageous price policies (Super Mario Odyssey is still 60 euro 6 years later!), and as a home console they're always underperforming compared to Sony or Xbox.

gold_drake9d ago (Edited 9d ago )

i cam guarantee you, that their exclusives alone is what drives switch sales. they sell in the 10s of millions of copies.

nintendo created their franchises to be sort of nostalgia driven, exclusive only on nintendo.

people will always buy the pkmn games as they always bring in new younger fans amd is family friendly

mario kart, the same thing, mario games in general.

zelda games are system sellers. animal crossing for the casual gamers.

nintendo doesnt need third vame devs essentially. they made sure with the switch and the limitations that they looked more to pc ps and xbox.

its sad, but nintendo is more than fine with what they're doing. they positioned themselves to appeal to the more casual gamers.

but to your point, im not sure why they're doing this rly.

Inverno9d ago

Look at how they handled Nintendo games being streamed or uploaded on YouTube in the past. They killed Yuzu and Citra even when they had nothing to do with ToTK being leaked, not to mention it was basically unplayable on emulation the week it was leaked. Smash Bros tournament, that was fairly recent. They shut down their online services without any care for purchases made. I bought a switch after skipping their last 2 consoles and handhelds but I don't plan on buying anything Nintendo in the future. They take things to the extremes, they legitimately hate their fans. They're honestly right up there with the likes of Acti, EA, and Ubi, only difference is that they disguise themselves as being family friendly all the while being shady.

Nintendo's Massacre Of The 3DS And Wii U Is Finally Complete, Regrettably
