Is the new 'Tomb Raider' Trailer Torture Porn? (RealSG)

Anthony Accinelli of RealSG writes "While I'm not the only one that finds this trailer amazing, I seem to be in the minority. Apparently there's a large group of people that believe the trailer is nothing short of "torture porn". They see a young, weak female being brutalized while making "sex noises". A type of fetish if you will."

RIPSKATEDESTROY4352d ago

young and weak... thats not lara croft

AvidGamerrrr4352d ago

It's a prequel. Also, did you watch the trailer?

RIPSKATEDESTROY4352d ago

yea.... newsflash.. its a game.

crxss4352d ago (Edited 4352d ago )

it was only a matter of time 'till someone mentioned this...

RIPSKATEDESTROY4352d ago

ah you guys... 3 guys got the joke at the moment, dont worry, itll come to you

RememberThe3574352d ago

If that was a joke, it wasn't a good one.

F7U124352d ago

more like torture to look at!

JokesOnYou4352d ago

Young, yes Weak, hell no, I think it would be better to label her "Young and Afraid" if anything, but being scared has nothing to do with weakness, I have a few friends in Afghanistan right now that will tell you that. The fact that she begins to fight back and obviously since we know "Young Lara" survives this nightmare situation/game and goes on to become a a badazz treasure hunter this just shows her inner strength at an early age. The only weakness I see is her being physically weaker to the men when it comes to muscle, like most women, but she more than makes up for it in wit, determination, ingenuity, leverage, and heart.

Peppino74352d ago

Its called acting. Same thing happens in porn. Moaning in a game from pain isn't the same as moaning in porn unless your sick enough to enjoy video game sounds on that level.

MaxXAttaxX4352d ago (Edited 4352d ago )

Nah jk. But it is pretty cinematic.

I'm still unsure about the whole Lara Croft constantly getting hurt by something. I mean, is she really going to be in pain all the time?
After I watched the first gameplay trailer I couldn't watch it a second time. All that screaming was a bit unnerving.

I'll have to get used to the whole being a survivor instead of a treasure hunter.
But overall, I'm excited for it. Seems to have a good story. I just hope I'm wrong about a couple things.

ChrisW4351d ago

Whatever! Back on topic!!! Torture Porn? Hell yeah! Fwap, fwap, fwap!!!

-Superman-4351d ago

THIS IS NOT PREQUEL!!!

THIS IS REBOOT!!!

jeseth4351d ago

1. Avidgamerrrr repying to his own article ... poor form friend, shouldn't be hitting refresh so you can defend what you posted,

2. "Torture Porn"? WTF? What are you, 12?

3. On topic, even though Uncharted's success is rooted in what games like Tomb Raider founded, this game looks like Uncharted with Lara put in place of Nate. Other than than, I think it looks really good, just can't believe this game is due out next year. Seems like its taking forever.

SignifiedSix4351d ago

Wow, I've never seen that trailer before. to be honest, this looks a hell of a lot more interesting than Uncharted.
Cant wait to see more of this game.

jc485734352d ago (Edited 4352d ago )

weren't you once young and weak before you toughened up?

RIPSKATEDESTROY4352d ago (Edited 4352d ago )

yes i was but ive never been a videogame character , and someone disagreed with it , you GOTTA love it

Jio4352d ago

"Young and weak"

Do you understand what weak means?

I'd like to see you get stranded on an island, fight bears and wild animals, and survive hundreds of near-death experiences.

snipes1014351d ago

What he said. How the hell is she shown to be weak? She kills animals to survive, shoots up a squadron of baddies, and clobbers a guy over the head with a damn pick ax.

So what if shes afraid while shes doing these things? Lord knows my pants would be brimming with urine and fecal matter if I was in her shoes.

joab7774352d ago

Young and weak at the beginning. U get to see what makes her a badass. Its also nice to see a human element sometimes. Its easier to relate to. U wonder why she doesnt trust men...now u know.

Arcanine4352d ago

your right, but the game looks like it will have a great story

Oh_Yeah4351d ago

lara is a straight up O.G.she'd make nathan drake soil his britches

JoGam4351d ago

Drake and Lora will make a great couple.

DlocDaBudSmoka4351d ago

bubbles up for using the term "britches" i haven't heard that since i was a little kid getting an ass whooping.

Lazy_Sunday4351d ago

You didn't read the article. Dumbass.

Hufandpuf4352d ago

She does seem to get beat up pretty badly in this game

TekoIie4351d ago

Personally think it makes her seem more "human". Realistically we cant do what Mr Drake does without a few injuries ;)

Snookies124352d ago

If you think this is sexual, you REALLY need to get out and find a girlfriend or something because that's just sad...

shackdaddy4352d ago

It's a really creepy fetish. I think they deemed the SAW series as torture porn too.

BISHOP-BRASIL4352d ago (Edited 4352d ago )

I know some people like to emulate violence and all... I'm not judging... But the "sex noises" is a girl stuggling to survive, fight and deal with pain... That guy just pulled a gun on her for god's sake.

It's not sad at all. It's sick. If anyone fits in that profile, don't get a girlfriend, get medical assistance.

Ser4352d ago

I just thought it looked edgy, brutal, and grim...never once did I think "oh, now that's HAWT."

TheGameFoxJTV4351d ago

Exactly, anyone who thought anything close to that is honestly sick in the head.

TekoIie4351d ago

When the guy starts trying to "make out" with her what the hell do you expect??? Their like pirates right? So they're bound to be very "sick minded" compared to your average civilised person.

TheFirstClassic4352d ago

Actually if you think that is sexy, you probably shouldn't have a girlfriend at all.

soundslike4352d ago

Ive had some pretty kinky GFs man.

jc485734352d ago (Edited 4352d ago )

I really thought this was well written as I never got into the past Tomb Raider games. I simply watched the playthrough on youtube and I be done with it. Even watching it on youtube, I find it hard to concentrate. Yes, she's oversexualized and unrealistic at that, but now she' real and mature.

There are also a few games where being sexy is cool like Bayonetta for example.

Lord_Sloth4352d ago

Not really sure how you got Torture Porn from that.

The Best Tomb Raider Games Ranked

We've gone on many adventures with Lara Croft. With another reboot in the making, Wealth of Geeks felt it was a good time to go down the nostalgia rabbit hole and remember the best of those tomb-raiding thrills.

I do agree that Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness was the worse one 😂 I remember playing some of it and I took it back. That game was just awful in every way. I bought it used at gamestop and glad they had that 7 day return policy for used games 😂

Pyrofire9568d ago

Would it be worth saying why?

ZeekQuattro68d ago

Simple. He's been hating on the Tomb Raider reboots for years. I can't imagine seeing them at the top of a best TR game list let alone being on the list in general sitting well with him because of it.

-Foxtrot68d ago

Zeek

“Hating”

No no, just pointing out how TR mutated into a generic action adventure game losing the appeal of what it once was when it was more about puzzles and platforming over going Rambo, slaughtering waves of enemies

But hey, continue being a dick and speaking about me like I’m not going to see the comment.

MeatyUrologist67d ago

Foxtrot, I'm curious if you have played the most recent games. Sure the 2013 reboot was hugely focused on combat, but each follow up became less and less about combat to the point where outside of a few large scale story missions I don't even remember combat being a part of shadow of the tomb raider. Shadow was so puzzle focused it actually was a bit much for me and I love the TR puzzles.

I still feel like Rise was the best of the series and I was a huge fan of the originals. To me it struck the perfect balance of exploration, platforming, puzzles, and combat. Not saying your opinion is wrong I'm just curious what you think they should have done different. Games do need to evolve somewhat to stay relevant. Would you prefer small linear jumping platform levels like the original?

RavenWolfx68d ago

I would agree Rise for 1 and the reboot as 2. Shadow is a bit high, though.

Sonic188168d ago (Edited 68d ago )

I think Shadow wasn't even develop by crystal dynamics. I thought it was the worse in the new trilogy

Pyrofire9568d ago

That's right. Shadow was developed by Eidos Montreal who who went and made Marvels Guardians of the Galaxy next. (Great game)
Meanwhile after Rise of the Tomb Raider, Crystal Dynamics made Marvels Avengers. (bad game)

MeatyUrologist68d ago

Agrees. First two are correct but Shadow should be around 5-6.

terstomp68d ago

For me, Legend should be alot higher (along with the other two ). Shadow, I enjoyed it, but has too much has fluff, as modern games tend to do. Playing the remastered series, and apart from the controls, is very good.

jznrpg68d ago

I really enjoyed the first 2 games, Legend and the first of the reboots and the rest I didn’t get into so I never finished.

robtion68d ago

Completely subjective list. I really liked Underworld, I preferred Lara's design. That said I loved the horror/uncharted feel of the reboot. I think all the TR games have strengths and weaknesses. None are objectively better in every way.
