Back to Bad Company: what DICE's forgotten shooter taught me about life

OXM's Edwin writes: "We've all been there, we Battlefield veterans. Trapped in a nook while some utter b*stard studies you from afar with the calm of a boa constrictor, sending death your way from what feels like all directions. "

BattleAxe4374d ago

I hope they make Bad Company 1 a digital download for the Playstation Store. BC2 was just released as a digital download around 3 weeks ago which is great since I'm all about downloads now.....the benefits of a 500 GB HDD on my PS3 :D

On another note, the Bad Company series is the best the Battlefield has to offer. The characters are some of my favorite characters of any game out there, and you can't beat the destructibility that Bad Company offers. Nothing like collapsing a house on a few enemies.

Pandamobile4374d ago

BF2 > BF2142 > BF1942 > BF3 > BFBC2 > BFBC.

Hufandpuf4374d ago (Edited 4374d ago )

BF2>BF3>BF2142>BFBC2 > BF1942>BFBC>BFHeros >BFP4F

Wenis4374d ago (Edited 4374d ago )

Put BF3 at the very end. Actually don't even put it on the list.

BF2>BF2MC>BF1942>BF2 142>BF1943>BFBC>BFBC2 > BFH/P4F>a steamy turd>BF3

Maybe I should move a steamy turd in front of BFH/P4F

Mutant-Spud4374d ago

One of the best things about BFBC2 was the destructible environments.
I never got frustrated with that game the way I did with BF3, BC2 would still often turn into a sniper fest but it was less of a pain than it is in BF3 because of the smaller maps, I got sick of seeing snipers in BF3 taking off in a chopper or a jet then dumping it when they got to their spot.

Zha1tan4374d ago (Edited 4374d ago )

lol im sorry,

dont dare compare BF2, 2142 & 1942 to these modern "battlefield" games.

If you truly think these great PC games are in anyway comparaple to the modern BF era garbage we have today then you have either never played them or you got destroyed.

It is not even battlefield anymore since EA got their grubby little hands involved with BF.

DICE are a great developer when they are left to do their work without EA interfering e.g the DICE keynote they made some amazing mods for skyrim.

Sorry but older BF games are about tactics and having a good aim, not charging around holding down shift noobspraying and getting rewarded via the supression effect.

leogets4374d ago

u can pick up bad company 1 for £5 quid 2nd hand shop brother. probably 10 dollars if your american. and not needin an online pass for it is win win. still prefer bf3 thoe imo over the others. just has far more immersive gameplay.battlefields are my favs no doubt.

SKUD4374d ago (Edited 4374d ago )

@BattleAxe

BF2 and 2142 are at the top of the series.

Pandamobile4374d ago (Edited 4374d ago )

It was hard for me to classify BFBC as a true Battlefield game because 24 players was such a small number. The action was pretty sparce.

I enjoyed the single player though.

dark-hollow4374d ago

Besides the limited number of players and the inclusion of Jets, i think BFBC1&2 is much better than the nerfying galore that is BF3.

Pandamobile4374d ago

I disagree. Maybe if your first Battlefield game was the Bad Company series, but going from Battlefield 2 to BFBC2 didn't feel right.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVED Bad Company 2, but it was missing a lot of what I loved from previous BF games. Namely air combat and large scale 64 person battles.

Surface blemishes aside, Battlefield 3 is an amazing game and in my opinion, way better than BFBC2. The player locomotion is SO much better. Weapons handle better, vehicles are better, etc.

BF3 took the best parts of BFBC2, BF2 and Mirror's Edge and smooshed them into one awesome package.

Oh, and it's also the best looking multiplayer game in existence. So it's got that going for it as well.

dark-hollow4374d ago

"Don't get me wrong, I LOVED Bad Company 2, but it was missing a lot of what I loved from previous BF games. Namely air combat and large scale 64 person battles."

thats why i said if only bad company had those it would totally blow BF3 away.

"Surface blemishes aside, Battlefield 3 is an amazing game and in my opinion, way better than BFBC2. The player locomotion is SO much better. Weapons handle better, vehicles are better, etc."

nothing drastic in how weapons/ vehicles are handled from BFBD2 to BF3. what truly annoyed me is how nerfed and weak everything felt.
now and especially after the latest "updates" good weapons are now basically useless, mortars are like mosquito stings, tanks are graves on wheels, riding those would would assure that you would get owned very fast, and i dont mean that tanks should be the ultimate weapons of mass destruction, but come on! give us some firepower and make respawning times for tanks if they get destroyed longer.

balancing is great, but nerfying every good weapon and even makes some completely useless is not the way to go.

house4374d ago

at the end of the day i had more with bad company then i did with battle field.. there both fun but i always went back to bad company

Soldierone4374d ago

To each his own (and I'm sure no matter what Battlefield die hards will tear apart anything saying something good about Bad Company) but I enjoyed Bad Company 2. It had great skill in gun on gun play, plus people would hide in the hills and stuff all the time.

I love BF3, it just feels "easier" than Bad Company 2. That and they keep nerfing everything.....and no matter what, you always get people that learn how to fly in Battlefield and thats when I get turned away most of the time. When BF first comes out, people are getting used to it and learning the maps and getting the hang of flying. then they get good and your stuck running scared from the "elite" pilots in the sky, and it sucks.

(As a PC gamer I can see the hate for Bad Company, but as a console gamer Bad Company 2 was a better experience for me)

Auto Modelista.. a PS2 capcom racer!! A blast to play and great graphics!
Maximo!
Rival Schools!

LordoftheCritics89d ago

Spec Ops: The Line was super dark.

Incredible story.

SheenuTheLegend88d ago

all the games in the above list are bang on. this is the only reason we need backwards compatibility and physical presense of games for the upcoming future, no matter what.

Yi-Long89d ago

Honorable mention to the excellent Driveclub, one of the best racing games of all-time and one of my favourite games ever.

melons89d ago

yes! incredible rain effects; so good to drive along in rain with your Spotify playlist blaring

Skuletor89d ago

I really wanted a MotorStorm using the same engine, Driveclub is easily one of the best looking games on PS4 and I'm surprised they didn't even give it a PS4 Pro patch.

ravens5288d ago

Yes indeed. May just install it on my PS5. You know, physical copy and all.

monkey60288d ago

I adored Driveclub and the Bike expansion. I also loved Motorstorm. Evolution shutting down was a crime

Outrun Online Arcade, Sega Rally Online Arcade, After Burner Climax... all good stuff. I keep my 360 hooked up to play these as well as the TMNT games that were also delisted.

Skuletor89d ago

I have quite a few of these. Timed licenses suck.

Terry_B88d ago (Edited 88d ago )

wow...I have all of them except the Nintendo ones either in physical or digital version.

Also..Deadpool the Game is missing on that list.

I had no idea that Bad Company 2 was still running, and only now that I know, I want to jump on! 😥

SonyStyled163d ago

I was able to find games in the Vietnam dlc on ps3 the last week. There were articles on here about the server closure when it was announced in April

DaReapa163d ago

BF1943 is the only online MP game that I was genuinely interested in. Been playing since launch 14 years ago. Hate that I couldn't put in as much time to play as I'd hoped for during the final week.

Inverno162d ago

I got really into 43 when I bought Bf3, and preferred it. Everything that I disliked or found annoying about Bf3, wasn't an issue in 43. Too bad they never bothered releasing it on PS4 or PC.

1nsomniac162d ago (Edited 162d ago )

Dead Space 2...... I wasn't even aware that had multiplayer. Nevermind that it was apparently one of their best multiplayers!

anast162d ago

Once people stop buying micros, these companies close the doors.

Xenial162d ago

Dead Space 2 multiplayer had been hanging on for years - I'd boot my PS3 up to see some familiar names in lobbies. This will definitely be missed!

Battlefield Legacy - Sunsetting Announcement

EA: "As we close in on 15 years since the release of Battlefield 1943, and Bad Company™ 1 & 2, we are announcing that their journey is coming to an end."

darthv72427d ago

This reminds me... I have ME on my PS3 hdd. Never really played it, but it was free.

XiNatsuDragnel427d ago

Digital future ppl is good they say nope imo

Eidolon426d ago

And it still says nothing about being able to downloaded even when it's off the storefront, that's a huge ouchie for some who somehow still have it in their backlog...

Shane Kim426d ago

Dont make it an issue when it's not. If you haven't played it in 15 years, chances are you'll never play it.

isarai427d ago

That all digital future sure looks great!

zidane1341427d ago (Edited 427d ago )

Online game servers shut off eventually all the time. Doesn’t matter if you have the disc or not. Even if you have the disc, it’ll be just paperweight unless the game lets you connect directly to a friend or LAN play.

isarai427d ago (Edited 427d ago )

Read the article bro. They are delisting the games, including mirrors edge which is an offline game. Online servers i can understand, not being able to buy/download the games anymore? Completely separate issue, especially seeing as how some these games had lengthy sp campaigns and not just mp.

zidane1341427d ago

@israrai, you can still buy the disc for less then 10$. Hardly a loss.

TheEnigma313427d ago

You shouldn't have to buy the disc, that's the issue.

OhReginald426d ago (Edited 426d ago )

Some brilliant minds created servers to keep these old online games alive. A lot of ps2 and ps3 games that had there servers shut down a long time ago have been restored by fans to keep it going. Warhawk, killzone 2, socom 2/ confrontation, resident evil outbreak series, etc.

+ Show (1) more replyLast reply 426d ago
DankSinatra426d ago

The disc still exist. I don’t understand the issue. You guys are upset about that “all digital future” yet these games are not “digital only”. Hell digital only is a minority in the gaming world and so far we haven’t moved into it, the only digital only games are games as a service or online only games, which end up failing in the end.

This is no different than a store that stops selling old games, just go and buy a copy somewhere else. So which is it, you hate all digital or you like it? Make up your mind.

isarai426d ago

Talk about missing the point entirely. I'm not going to sit here and explain it to you, figure it out.

DankSinatra426d ago

Talk about whining about something and not wanting to explain from an off handed sarcastic original comment.

I got the point just fine. You’re literally complaining about something that has an easy alternative to it.

ManMarmalade426d ago

I don't think you got the point

DankSinatra426d ago (Edited 426d ago )

@ManMarmalade

No I got it, it has to do with the push towards a future of all digital and reprocussions of losing games. Something I already stayed that hasn’t happened nor is it large enough right now to cause any issues as the games that are all digital are online only to begin with or make up the minority of games

So I’ll say it again, the disc still exists for these games that are over a decade old and can still be played easily. You guys are contradicting the whole “we don’t want a digital only future” crying when the dude I originally responded to stated:

“Read the article bro. They are delisting the games, including mirrors edge which is an offline game. Online servers i can understand, not being able to buy/download the games anymore? Completely separate issue, especially seeing as how some these games had lengthy sp campaigns and not just mp.“

So again, which is it? Do you hate all digital or do you want it?

Inverno427d ago

On PC I don't think it's much of a problem but I'm sad to see BF43 being shut down. I haven't played it in a while since it's stuck on PS3, but i preferred it way more over BF3. It was the lack of invisible barriers which made it better for me.

badz149427d ago

BFBC2 was still the best overall package offered by the franchise so far IMO

porkChop426d ago

Absolutely. BC2 was such a great game. It's a shame we never got BC3.

P_Bomb426d ago

I had a great run on Bad Company 2. Pound for pound, as solid a BF package as there’s been.

InUrFoxHole427d ago

Does anyone play the last BF anymore? I searched crossplay servers and it was 20 people the most on all the servers? Can never find a game

SonyStyled427d ago

The last BC you mean? I was still able to find 10v10 on ps3 2 years ago on NA servers during the evenings. I have all the free and paid dlc installed, but there want any matches in the Vietnam dlc.
