Super Mario world was my all time favorite.

super mario land for the original gameboy. The first time playing that and thinking about how cool it is to play mario on the go.

Classic!

Sunshine is easily one of my favorites.

krazykombatant4374d ago

For me it added a whole new level of difficulty. The galaxy series, were too easy. So many memories on delfino beach. It was a great concept though.

Exactly! I didn't like Galaxy that much because there was little or no challenge. Also the stages in Sunshine had their own personality and presence unlike Galaxy where you jump from small planet to planet. It was so hard to distinguish what stage you're playing. Before I had a Gamecube, I thought the FLUDD was a real dumb idea but it works really well and add is great fresh element to the gameplay.

To me, it felt like galaxy was a step back from mario 64 and sunshine. Controls were simplified, less difficulty, and it was more linear. None of the levels offered the same freedom 64 and sunshine did. Also, none of the areas in galaxy felt as alive as sunshine. Isle delfino was awesome, it really felt like you were walking around a community of those... things. Heck even the story in sunshine was better, not that the story is of that great importance in a mario game.

I'm not gonna lie, I definitely missed the bigger levels from previous 3D Mario games. The gravity element was fun to begin with, but running upside-down on a small linear planet can't compare to exploring a large and sprawling land like those found in Super Mario 64 and Sunshine.

1. Sunshine
2. Mario 64
3. Super Mario Bros
4. Super Mario Bros 3
5. Super Mario Galaxy

People hate or underrate sunshine, the game was the best is the series and it was actually the best selling Mario game per console ratio. It sold something like 9 million and only 20 some odd million Gamecubes were sold.

But they're making a Luigis mansion 2 and not a Sunshine 2?

Super Mario 64 DS: Remakes Done Right

Super Mario 64 DS was offered as a launch title for the Nintendo DS, a remake of the classic platform game with a few original tricks.

Not with those D-pad controls

Needs more appreciation. I never had an N64 so this was what I played. Sure the Yoshi hat mechanic at first is a slog but you unlock Mario and the others for real and then it takes off. Personally I never had an issue with the controls. Can't forget the mini games and the 4 player rumble over download play.

Indeed, as stated in the article there were tonnes of control options and very much a 'take whatever you like, leave the rest' attitude to most of the game's extras.

My top 3 are Mario 3, Mario World and Mario 64. Mario Odyssey is also excellent, and I enjoyed Sunshine but didn't care for the Galaxy series.
