Why Silent Hill Shattered Memories deserves another look- Part One

You often hear fans say that Silent Hill 3 was the last 'true' Silent Hill game. I say that it was the game that tipped the series over into failure. Read on, find out why, and how I think Shattered Memories may just have saved it.

silent hill shattered memories was a fantastic entry to the silent hill series.

No it wasn't. It wasn't even a Silent Hill game to begin with. If you consider it a seperate game, then yes, it was a good game. But as a Silent Hill game? No way. Horrible monster designs (there was what, three different designs that actually resembled each other?), stupid plot twist at the end, absolutely no mention of the cult, trying to pscyhologically scare the player through dumb phone messages etc. It wasn't anything more than an extremely butchered "reimagining" of the first Silent Hill...

yes it was. he he he he

The second half of this retrospective addresses your complaints- keep a look out for it in a few days.
I always knew splitting this in two halves was going to be frustrating, as I can't argue with you without spoiling the article!

I hate the new silent hill games its all
about the team silent games for me.

I did enjoy shattered memories though.
Sure it wasn't scary,it had no combat and the ice thing just didn't work for me but it had some great ideas i loved using the wii remote as a torch i would love to see that again in a future silent hill.
Also i loved the psychological profile thing they had going that was a cool idea to.

If they just mixed these things with the horror
the japanese do so well and the story telling like the old games then we would have an amazing new silent hill in my opinion.

One of the most immersive and intriguing games I've ever had the pleasure to experience. The pay-off at the end is devastating.

Team Silent is gone and so is my love for the Silent Hill franchise

Mr_Prest4382d ago (Edited 4382d ago )

Well good for you. Wish you lot would shut up about it though.
The series doesn't have a continuing storyline. 30 more games could be released in the next few years, and none of them would hurt your memories of the original four. Live and let live.

The HD collection hurt the memories a bit lol
I see your point though its just been hard watching
the franchise go down hill since the 4th game.
I thought shattered memories was a great game in
its own rights though.
At least they had tried to do something different and
actually came up with some great ideas which would actually
benifit the series so credit where its due.

Downpour and shattered memories both are very good games ;)

I grew up in a country where we didnt have the majority of consoles you guys had in the rest of the world. My consoles were a Sega 16, and a Microgenius (which I think was a knock off Nintendo NES), I traveled to UK once as a child and bought a Sega Mortal Kombat game, but it was a Sega Genesis (or whatever it was called), and the damn game wouldnt fit into my console. I resorted to cutting the edges of the cartridge to get it to fit in my desperation (imagine that)! Lol

Needless to say it wouldn't run it.

Damn lol! Our first home console was the Sega Master System! Played the controllers to shambles, the console is still live and kicking though!

I have some of these games but I have played them. Still worth a good amount though and they’re in great condition.
