you think that with all the work Microsoft is putting into the 360 in Japan they would have more interest in that system. At least Star Ocean made an appearance on the popularity chart.

I used to love FF to btis when Squaresoft made it

Now i feel its fading away and that Square-Enix are not giving it the justice it deserves

The last time we heard anything about WKC was at TGS 07 lol. We've been getting nothing but Square-Enix related stuff this year. The latest build of WKC will be shown at TGS next month.

On topic: Could you imagine what a FFXIII bundle would do for Sony in Japan? Oh man.

It's surprising that a 360 game even made the list! I know japan likes the Dragon quest games more than Final fantasy, but since the next one is going to DS and the next FF game will be on Ps3... FFXIII took over as the number one game!

@Mohib... The Final Fantasy you like has been having lower sales (by about a million units) with each new release. Which is what lead Square Enix to focus more on branching out to other territories. They figure making a FF game more like an action game will increase sales and add more popularity to the franchise!

Either that or you can watch as your beloved Squareenix stays stubborn until no one wants to play FF games except for HARDCORE rpg gamers... which are also lowering in numbers!

I know it's hard, but things have to change... and Squareenix realizes that!

@Chaos atom... No need for a price drop... Ps3 will be the only console in japan with FFXIII! It's the number 1 game wanted so they don't need a price drop. People will buy it!

And if I am correct... FFXIII will come our sometime around May or June in japan, and will release in US during Holiday '09 like SE originally intended! Looking at the games coming out this year for the holidays... it makes sense that SE would push it into late 09 for US, and it is probably a few months from completion for japan!

1.6 - Japan will explode...
...3 seconds after this game is released. Godzilla will pick up the pieces and Megalon will reconstruct Japan into the shape of Hello Kitty's face. I'm just saying...this game will be huge over there.

It's inevitable. Seeing as how FFXIII isn't out til god knows in '09, a PS3 price drop is a must by then.

Why would a price drop help? If you cant even afford a ps3 by now then you mind as well forget about ever getting one. What do people expect for the price to drop to $200? Sorry this isnt an xbox we're talking about its a high quality Japanese machine. PS3 is at its best price and value ever, sorry guy but dont wait for a price cut, just buy one for 3 bills

But it's also available on the PS3 in japan. It's not even close the numbers. People would just get it for the PS3 unless MS can pay for timed exclusivity, of which they would not.

4.2 - Yeah and now they will...
...have to compete with one of their own titles. Maybe they'll release it before FF13 drops. They better if they want to see any profit from it. Japan will be on FIRE, F.I.R.E. when this game hits stores over there.

I seriously can't wait until Final Fantasy XIII hits Japan because the impact that it will have on PS3 sales will be just astronomical... and speaking of astronomical, I'm pretty sure those PS3 Final Fantasy Advent Children bundles that have the FFXIII demo in March 09 hitting Japan will be selling like hot cakes too.

Microsoft had better enjoy it's last 15 minutes of fame in Japan after The Last Remnant comes out this year and Star Ocean 4 next year comes out because once FFXIII hits the PS3 in Japan, it's over for the 360 in Japan.... And if the Japanese end up waiting for the Last Remnant on the PS3 to come out next year, the 360 wont see another spike in sales in Japan until Star Ocean 4.

6 - at least Kojima tries to understand other countries
"Final Fantasy XIII is most wanted game in Japan"

Of course it is. They support their own kind (jrpgs). Ask them about western games and there will be a big pause of silence, followed by the proverbial "...right".

This how they hinder the growth of the games industry. Any game with Square or Enix backing it becomes their pride and joy. They don't give a chance for other genres to grow, and consequently have been been playing the same kinds of games, with the same kinds of heroes for the last 10-20 years! This why Nintendo thrives, and why Tetsuya Nomura still has a job.

The Japanese people won't move on, they're stuck in Anime fanboy land. At least here in America we will go outside of our own culture to find entertainment. And I won't lie - I totally dig Anime. But they don't offer the same sort of concession to others. Japanese Animes are primarily characterized by

1) a Japanese hero
2) a cast of supporting charcters that totally envy the Japanese hero
3) a villain who no matter what he does cannot beat this Japanese hero
4) a world in which Tokyo is some sort of Megatropolis that other countries cannot hope to achieve.
5) the general idea that Japan is superior to all other nations.

I have nothing against the country or its people. I just wish they allowed more games of foreign origin to at least thrive. No man is an island, and they shouldn't be so noninclusive. And especially, I do wish their views of 360 would at least change, considering that all consoles are machines anyway. What matters where they come from or who built them?

If not for American (and others) interests in the PlayStation brand, they would be stuck selling consoles to the few numbers of their own nation. Exactly what x360 is facing (though America isn't few in numbers).

Very interesting but I just think the Japanese culture is most into a fantasy element. We love things to be realistic so games like Killzone 2 is first on our list while they're waiting for Ninja Gaiden II or this case Final Fantasy XIII.

I good example of what I think Eastern gamers are compared to the Western is the fantasy element. Everything would have to be like Transformers, Iron Man, Sipder-Man, or The Incredible Hulk. The realistic element is just as present as the fantasy element. We like the same thing, but would prefer more realistic elements. lol, remember True Crime: Streets of LA?

I can be wrong, but that's why I think anime is so popular it has a lot of depth as well as a lot of fantasy. Like the Japanese horror movies are usually based on myths / legends in other words ghost stories. In the Western famous horror movies are about serial killers like the 1960 movie "Psycho." We like their culture too, we show interest, but the main stream would rather like it to be grounded in reality. Plus I want to see Quarantine (Spanish Horror) and I think it's not based on ghosts. I could be wrong, but anyways.

ApocalyPS3 - I agree with some of your points about Japanese Anime, especially the suggestion that "No man is an island". That is fair enough.

However, your point no. 5 that "general idea that Japan is superior to all other nations" made me have a bit of a laugh. As a resident of neither country, I would like to point out that many countries in the rest of the world hold the common perception that Americans believe their nation is superior to all other nations as well.

In addition, you ask "What matters where they come from or who built them?". I'm guessing you didn't know that the US Auto industry used to have an "American-made % index" to show consumers how 'American' the car they were buying was.

I am not bashing you, or either country, but trying to point out fundamental differences in culture and common stereotypes. Point is, most countries take pride in themselves, but they have different ways of showing it. Japan takes pride in their entertainment industries by supporting them, just like Americans show pride by displaying the American flag so often. Neither culture is above one or the other.

Being open to new things is one thing I cant argue against, I agree. But to expect all other countries to have the same consumer preferences as you shows a lack of understanding in fundamental cultural differences.

6.5 - WTF?
I got 6 six disagrees, and 3 people who actually cared to reply (thank you guys, bubbles, plus one off topic. Either I offended someone (not my intentions) or there are simply too many angry fanboys. I'd bet that they read only one word in my comment (360) and right away disagreed with the entire post.

Okay, maybe it has to do with how the only country I defended was America. I really can't tell you about the tastes and customs of anything else, so if I lack any of that knowledge or appear to be ignorant of something I'm sorry. My Aunt and her Husband are actually going to Europe tomorrow and are going to be there for a month. Her daughters (from prior marriage) both live in Hawaii and Italty (twin sisters who, I guess, didn't want to see each other again:P).

I'm going to Europe one day myself, as soon as I've saved enough. And I'll probably hit Japan sometime after that.

one of my most favorite Jrpg series it is being downgraded for a handheld. they already have a spin-off of the series on the DS why DQIX too?

mmmm.... well the DS has the highest sales of software and hardware but i wanted it for consoles. you know, epic quest, HD graphics and all that but no. they only want to make money so DQIX for Ds... what it's happening to the game industry? or may i say to the japanese developers? making mega awesome games like Parasite Eve and Kingdom Hearts, Valkyrie Profile for handhelds...

handhelds are good for a quick game just for fun while waiting the train, bus whatever, not for long, story driven rpg's.

People need to remeber that there is no FF13 coming to japan on the xbox sony can come in and scoop up the sales. Wich is wierd When ever an rpg no matter what if is comes out it comes out to Japan first then it comes out to the rest of the world. So does this mean that ff13 is coming out on the 360 in europe and north america first then hitting the ps3 in japan. Microsoft better play their cards right if they want to keep a steady flow of rpgs not relasing the game in japan is going to kill the sales of the xbox Star ocean might pick up some sales of the 360 but not that much. Last Remnant is a limited time exclusive on the 360 then it will hit the ps3. Thanks to those with big money to spend, Sony better wake up and start getting some decent Rpgs
