Eidos Announces Deus Ex 3, Talks New Montreal Studio

Developer-publisher Eidos has revealed that its new studio in Montreal, Québec, first announced earlier this year, has opened its doors to the public, and the company is inaugurating the facility with the announcement of its first project: a third installment of the futuristic first person-shooter/RPG Deus Ex.

Gamasutra spoke to Eidos Montreal's general manager, former Ubisoft exec Stéphane D'Astous, about the studio's business plan and the new title.

The best FPS/RPG i have ever played, and i played'em all.
Too bad Invisible War was nothing like the first one, it got consolized till it was nothing than a broken mess..

I agree. I played the first one on PC about two years after it was released and it was the best game I have ever played and I'm more of a console fanboy. I never played the second game so I can't speak on it. Is it worth checking out?

Completely agreed. The original Deus Ex WAS an instant classic and one of the best RPGs ever. Second game was good but nowhere near that masterpiece. This is beyond great news.

Dude, they BETTER had gotten rid of the unified ammo system from Invisible War, and please please bring back skill points, REAL augmentations, and REAL choices. I'm scared of where this could go without Warren Spector, but I'm hoping they learned from IW. Yes, I hated IW very much but the first remains my favorite first person game of all time.

7 - I don't think 3 will match the first

simply because the first Deus Ex when it came out, there was nothing like it or had been before, it was amazing in so many ways. To get that kind of 'amazing' factor again they would have probably have to something completley new which may then lead the game to not being 'true to its roots'. Anyway as long as this is better than invisible war i'll get it

8 - I loved Invisible War, one of the greatest games I've ever played!

You can't even begin to imagine how excited I am about this news, although I thought this was sort of confirmed in lesser words not that long ago.

I feel Mass Effect often has a similar vibe as Invisible War (like at the Citadel). And although it falls a little short, exploration wise, compared to Invisible War, it's still a good temporary fix untill Deus-ex 3

I can't even begin to imagine how crazy this game could be! So excited about this one!

9.1 - Then again......

the same happened with Devil May Cry, first was Excellent, second was SH*T, but then the series redeemed itself with the third. So all I'm saying is before you make judgement on the game see how it turns out first, it might suprise you.

Invisible War didn't suck, it was actually a lot better than many games released at the time. Of course it isn't a great, great game like the original but I'd still rather play it than pointless drool at the screen shooting "stuff" crap like Halo.

A lot of us hated IW because it took everything that we loved from Deus Ex. ..and threw it out of the freaking window. Giving us bastardized versions of the gameplay elements we loved from the first one. Unified Ammo, Lack of skill points, the joke hacking, and biomods being a dumbed down version of the augs from the first one. All of those are what irritated me so in IW, of course if I threw the knowledge of the first out of my head then IW was an enjoyable game in its own right. But considering the storyline follows from the first, it was nigh impossible to do so.

Of all of those the main offender was unified ammo, even Warren Spector said it was a bad idea but apparently no one on the team believed him and it stayed. It took away a lot of strategy and my ability to have fall back weapons. I'm hoping this game follows the elements from the first and expands upon them greatly instead of Invisible War. If they can do that and keep the storyline just as awesome, then they have instant customers from myself and a few friends.
