i think the PS3 will end up around 60mil and the 360 will end up around 45mil by the time they get replaced

That the PS3 will have a much better standing by this time in 6 years.

That's not to say it will be on top, because I expect the Wii will be king for the rest of this generation. It appeals to non-traditional gamers, and because the 360 and PS3 cannot match that appeal, the Wii has a monopoly on the casual market.

My guess is Wii in 1st, PS3 in 2nd, and 360 in 3rd.

I don't care about freaking sales since I make no money out of it. Also, I already own a Ps3 and I'm happy with it, I just hope more surprises come our way. As for Wii, we'll have to see:

Haven't read the intervue but the statement:

"If Nintendo starts pumping out more Wii consoles to keep up with demands, PS3 could suffer once again" Seems silly and to imply that the consumer is indifferent on which console to buy as long as it is next-gen. The Wii and the PS3 target different audiences to a large extent and I don't think Wii people buy a PS3 simply because there are too few to meet demand. At least speaking for myself I did some thinking before deciding which next gen console to buy, the decision to go with PS3 was made only after trying the other two out at friends', if Sony hadn't launched the more affordable 40gb version I probably would have bought a Wii though.

"The PS3 does not have a large library of hot titles like the PS2 and (to some extend) the Xbox 360". Well this gets repeated over and over until your ears start bleeding, of course it hasnt got a similiar amount of hot titles but it's getting there, and why compare the games library to a console that has been around since 2001?

Listen, video games is a industry that BOOM if you can see the numbers, all due to SONY PS1 break out with games that really scare MS, that why they start Xbosh. Since it is a growing industry more that Movies. Just look Assasin creed and Halo sales. People goes to movies and pay 6-10$, people goes buy video games and pay 60$ and they are buying 1 millions of assain with in a week. I would not see movies sell at 60$.

You have to understand Sony's history and how they came to sell so m any consoles, even if some gamers had multiple consoles. The huge Momentum from Playstation 1 to Playstation 2 was Huge.

1. 3rd-Party developers left Nintendo(Konami, Square, Capcom[Big Ones]) and really did not give the Sega Dreamcast a chance. That was the strength of the Sony Playstation 1/2. so they had, More games, More support, more Money, More Market-Share, More Profit.

2. While the Original Xbox manage to steal a little share from the PS2 there was no way, they were going to win Last Gen. Again, the PS2 had Huge momentum and over 100 million potential buyers of the PS2. What did Microsoft have "0". Just a baby and they took a chance, thanks to bill Gates pockets, they came back.

3. Now that 3rd Party support is a lot more Even these days, The Big 3 3rd-Party Devs {Konami, Capcom and Square} are a little more Open with their titles this time around, and the strong arrival of Western/European Developers have also gained strengths and Can support all 3 major consoles. (EA, UBi...etc). Where back in the day you really needed BIG Japanese dev support to even be successful.

Well this is what I think because:

A. People buying the PS3 for Movies only.[Blurring the User-Base]

B. Loosing important 3-rd Party Devs, they once held unto tight.

C. Some of these 3rd-Party's franchises have also weakened IMO. MGS4 might be the last great one, Final Fantasy have been ok, since FFVII.

D. Less System sellers {In need of new and Strong Franchises and fresh Games/Sleeper hits}

E. The world is Tighter with money these days, and the PS3 is more expensive. Hey money Talks.

F. Nintendo has rejuvinated with a fresh Idea, eventhough it's not hardcore. Some buying because of Price.

G. Microsoft is a lot stronger with Developers since the Original Xbox, as evident with the sales numbers/XBL content and is doing better in JAPAN.[surprisingly] Some are "jumping in" in because it's a cheaper alternative, with a bigger library of games, on part MS's strategy.

If Sony still had the same Major backing from all of it's devs last gen , and gamers were not jumping in the Xbox ONLY, then there is a good shot, but it's clear that they do not, and have to rely more on 1st-Party this gen, While Nintendo is in need of strong 3rd-Party games, and MS is just in the Middle.

It is a great product with a long life. The Blu-Ray player alone will account for a lot of sales when HD starts getting even and overtaking DVD.

The games are coming on well, and the development technology seems to be getting better all the time. It will win this gen in the long run.

The PS3 is starting to deliver on the first of its promises, games that can't be made on any other system. The problems are:

1) that most game developers still don't know how to make that good on PS3 and

2) the competition is still cheaper.

3) HDTV are still expensive and the HDTV market is too complicated and confusing.

In order to sell 150 million by 2013 (5 years) Sony has to overcome all three hurdles at the same time. However, it is not enough that first-party be able to produce better games on PS3, the third-party developers have to be able to produce better games on PS3. Having seen Heavenly Sword, Ratchet, and Uncharted, I am confident that the first hurdle will be over come soon (as in the next 18-24 months).

They will probably have caught up to 360 in price in the next 12 months also. (They don't have a choice, if it requires more losses then they have to take them).

The HDTV market is what I am unsure of. In order to sell 120 million PS3s by 2013, Sony needs to see the market produce a $400 32inch 720p television in 12-18 months(I don't know if we will see that), and get its price down to $200 by January (I am sure we will see that).

before making so FAR forecasts.

i really believe that every autosimulator lover and GT fan will buy GT5, and that is around 10 mln.
i really believe that every JRPG lover will buy FFXIII and that is another 5-10 mln.
i really believe that every tactical-action game lover and MGS fan will buy MGS4, and that is another 5 mln.
If these games will sell like i predicted, then PS3 have chances to make 120 mln. by 2013. :)

Anyway, we only know some FEW games, which are coming in 2008-2009.
There are still 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013. =)

It really depends on how quick the PS3 can drop down to $300 where the original PS2 cost, how fast blu-ray will appeal to the masses, and how fast the majority of the exclusive games come out and make the PS3 look superior than the 360. The PS3 also has more diverse genres in games. How quick these things happen will ultimately decide how much the PS3 sells. Right now I see the PS3 selling 80-90 million and the Wii sellin 100 million, and X360 selling 60-70 million just because the system doesn't sell outside of the U.S. even after 1 year they have not appealed to outside the U.S. If you look at last generation Japan sold 30 million PS2s, Europe 45 million PS2s, and U.S. 55 million PS2s. A system needs to sell everywhere and so far the Wii is the only system that is doing that right now.

The ps3 is built better than the ps2! The ps2 reached those high numbers because people had ps2's breaking on them left and right! But sony always had alot of games, and it was cheaper to buy a new ps2 instead of paying sony $140 to fix the old one, so people just went ahead and bought a new one. Seriously... if there were over 100 million ps2 owners... Sony would have had no problem selling 20 million ps3's right from the start!

But the fact is there was only 30-40 million people who bought the ps2 multiple times that made the number go so high! It's been a year and the ps3 hasn't even sold over 10 million units. That tells the truth about how many true sony fans there are right there.

Plus, MS took a lesson from last generation, and just basically copied what sony did last gen, to make the 360 successful this gen(besides the Rrod problem). MS didn't think that nintendo would be the underdog powerhouse that they have become as of late. But it's still interesting to see this gen move foward.

(Nothing against sony, but I just stated the facts... And if you can't deal with it you are a blind fanboy/girl!"
