Well, Wii is mainly targeted at casual market and with WiiFit, I don't think Wii could fail in that category. I hate WiiFit with a passion. And I'm not just saying by that, our magazine got hands-on/feet-on it during previous game conventions and it was a horrible and unfun experience but I know that the game is for a different and casual market and believe me, they are dying for this WiiFit and that alone combined with Wii Sports and Play is enough to keep Wii going...

The Wii targets everyone. I don't know any casual players that want to pick up Manhunt 2 or MP3. I have to spread the word of No More Heroes and Disaster so that some of my friends know they're coming, but they have no interest if they're causal gamers.

The hardcore gamers I know, though, are excited about many games that are coming to the Wii.

It's ok to dislike certain kinds of games. RE and Metroid are the only FPS I like (and Goldeneye, but that's just legendary), I think others are horrible experiences that I can't stand to play for more than 5 minutes.

However, I know many a casual gamer that loves Halo. So I cannot say hardcore gamers think differently. I know many a hardcore gamer that is looking forward to Wii Fit (and I am among them).

It is wrong for me to say I dislike hardcore games, because I don't. I love many of them, but one genre I don't like, and it's not even only for the hardcore. It's fine not to like a new type of game, but, please, be careful when categorizing who does like it. When it comes to games, we're all gamers. The only difference between those of us on here and the grandma in a nursing home is time. What kinds of games we find interesting differs as much from me to you to the next guy as from you to her.

As many hardcore gamers are looking forward to Wii Fit as casual gamers...both have the time to enjoy it, if that's what they're into, and if you're not into it, you can avoid it like I avoided Halo 3, but it doesn't change that a variety of people are looking forward to it.

The Wii is selling better than the Xbox360 and PS3 because it is cheaper and that's all there is. The Wii has lame kiddy games and no i don't want to swing my arms around while playing..no thanks. The Wii will die once the price of the Xbox350/PS3 comes down to its price level. If the Wii came out at $399, it would have been vaporware already.

Weird, I could've sworn that I bought my Wii mainly because I knew it was the only console getting high-quality software developed by Nintendo. Also, my non-gamer friends will never touch a 360 or PS3 but find the Wii controls fun and engaging. Anyone who actually owns a Wii knows that swinging your arms around to play is totally optional.

Price eh? So when the PS3 and 360 come "down to it's price" it will die off?

I'm just curious if you understand that Nintendo can drop their price as well. And when they do drop their price it will still be cheaper than the 360 and PS3 for years of price cuts. According to your logic of it dies off when they get to the same price point, that could be 5-6 years down the road and may never happen since they are so fundamentally different.

I really don't see the Wii as direct competition to the other two. I think they cater to completely different markets, that happen to over-lap somewhat since people aren't robots and have some diversity to them.

IMO, When the average joe begins to understand and adopts to HD, thats when the Wii will suffer and 360/PS3's 2008 lineup isn't favoring on the wii side neither, not to mention price drops, so i think maybe late 2008/mid 2009 or even earlier Wii's momentum should have a sharp decreases in sales.

so if no one wants Standard Definition only supporting video games, Nintendo will work on a new nintendo.

look how the DS is doing, it will take along time before the PSP takes the lead....it might never happen.

So Wii, that was made for the same market, will do fine.

But if they really have to change stuff then i think the most logical step would be a Nintendo console that can do more then PS3 or 360, other wise Nintendo wont last for sure.
Plus nintendo always wants to keep their console cheap so by the time nintendo makes a new console hardware has already been dropped in price.

but look how well Wii is selling? and after a year its still in high demand, i dont see nintendo making changes in a long time.

6 - i don't see a wii as a threat.

sure, it's popular and casual, but i think it only widens the market for the ps3 and 360. Many people have multiple consoles, the wii is going to be that second console for many people, fun, party friendly, child friendly, but it;s not your home entertainment device that the 360 and ps3 are. I have a wii, i love playing drunk tennis, but I rarely play with my wii on my own (get it?), I honestly think that the wii will only garner respect for the other consoles and handhelds.

To me it's like having a cheap mp3 player for the gym, and liking it, so you get a better one or more exspensive one for everyday use.

wii is no threat, it only has hardware sales. softwarewise it sucks, full of cookie clutter games. thats why you dont see uncharted and assassins creed on the wii. and imho, most ppl who bought it especially the impulse buyers arent playing it anymore.

I think Wii will be #1 this generation in terms of install base, but I don't think Wii will make that much money because most the money is made from the software. Casual gamers don't buy that many games and the hardcore gamers buy more games on the 360 and PS3 and all the multiplatform games on PS3 and 360.

While I agree that casuals don't buy as many games and that the Wii has the highest percentage of casual gamers, I think the Wii will make Nintendo and 3rd-parties a lot of money because Wii development costs are far lower than development costs for PS3 and 360 games. PS3 and 360 games have to sell more copies than Wii games in order to break even, so Wii titles can make money without selling nearly as many units.

It all remains to be seen though.

i think there are more women then men(well i hope hehe, better ratio for us boys). I wouldn't be surprise if at least 90% the females that game are casual gamers. Honestly has any one of you guys come across a girl that likes GeoWars?. My problem with the wii or rather my fear is that it will setback the Gaming industry at least on a technical level which is one of the reason why i like Sony. They always push for the latest cutting edge tech. With the success of the wii my real worry is that devs will focus less on the hardcore gaming market and focus on the casual market which EA are already doing. I don't see the wii slowing down to the point where the PS3 or x360 will overtake it for two main reasons. 1 price. 2 The casual market is far larger than the hardcore which mostly consist of 13-35 year old males.

I think it will hold its own for another 6 months. Then the games for the PS3 and 360 will be above and beyond what a Wii could ever dream of, with Ratchet and Clank already out and Jak and Daxter on the way kids will want the newer better graphics and the newer games.

IMO Nintendo has done exceptional, it has proved the critics wrong and exceded what everyone though possible. It still has its place for another 2 years, but kids want what they want and now at whatever price it costs to parents.

But how many kids games are / have been aimed at kids for the 360 or PS3? The Wii has been the only system thus far that has. Now some of the games kids enjoy are starting to be released / are being announced for the PS3.

I know that if you want a system for your children the Wii is the way to go, but once the kids start to see Ratchet and Clank, I know a few of them will be asking for a brand spanking new PS3 because the graphics look nice and their friend Jason already has one at school.

when it comes to motion control i always turn them off on ps3. i can't do that on my wii and i don't think i can stand playing another mario party or warioware game or any other game with motion control. it's a trend i got sucked into and got blown from really fast(2 weeks). i play ps3 games and 360 games when I'm alone. the only game i can play alone on wii is mario galaxy(it's been released where i live 3 days ago). metriod prime on wii you say, well it's nice but i got a ton of fps on 360 that play just as well and look a 100 times better so why should i play an inferior game.

i even hated the balancing stuff on the uncharted demo, and i would have given motion control for rumble on any day of the week. but at the end of the day i really don't blame Nintendo, they can't compete with sony and Microsoft on the way those 2 are heading(powerful multimedia do it all systems). i actually applause them for what they did this gen. they found their way and market and they are sticking to it.

i just hope that enough people with wii who weren't gamers before buy an additional next gen system, it being a 360 or ps3 and play some real hardcore games for a change.

FPS the old way isn't just as well. I could never go back to aiming with two control sicks. It feels so old!

Nintendo tried the powerful system last gen. They just learned where MS didn't, and Sony thought it was a good move, too. Nintendo never moved in the multimedia direction because they wanted their games console to be about games. However, GC was a powerful little box...Nintendo could have gone the same direction, but chose not to, not because they couldn't do it, but because they learned from last gen.

Don't fall into the trap of thinking all Wii games are casual. I do hope people who can afford it buy more than one console, though, because it would be a shame to see the PS3 or 360 owners missing out on games like Disaster: Day of Crisis, and No More Heroes.
