Nintendo brags about sales and Wii's fast growing library

Nintendo's Wii was the best-selling game system in July according to NPD Group figures, helping the company achieve its highest weekly sales figures since December. Nintendo is rightfully proud of the DS, too, with its library of more than 300 titles, including the top-selling title Pokemon Diamond. The company is also touting the Wii's library, saying that it's averaged nine new games each month since launch, which is a faster rate than any of its competitors.

That is pretty much why I had to post this story. All the non-gamers or as Nintendo calls them "Casual Gamers" are the only ones buying this hype. I have a Wii and Wii Sports kicked ass and Zelda was an Amazing experience. However after that it has been let down after let down. All my money is still poured into my 360 and not my Wii.

In a nutshell though, Putting out a lot of crappy games with gimmicky controls is not Nintendo's fault but most of the 3rd party dev's trying to cash in on the Wii's soaring success. Good games are coming, But how long do I have to wait??

4 - smart choice to not go HD?

i bought my first HDTV in 1999, yes people HDTV is THAT OLD. if you dont have one yet, you are WAY behind as i had my PS1 hocked up to the HDTV (not in HD of course).
anyway, after nearly a decade i can say, it's no longer impressive... i dont even see the "shock" when changing from a standard to HD program..

I think nintendo knew this and banked on it, 99% of modern HDTV will upconvert the video to 1080p (or 720p if you have an old one). wii games at 480p upconverted to 1080p look great...

Most parents i know who do not understand games ask me about the PS3, Wii, and 360 for their kids. they are turned off by the PS3 and 360 because "i dont see the point if i dont own a HDTV". its not that they cannot afford the system, they just dont have an HDTV for the "kids".

idk.... but i own all 3 systems and like them all (360 least) but i have ALWAYS been a nintendo fan and its nice to see them on top (for now, we'll see what happens)

Nintendo shut the hell up, stop compairing yourself to the competiters. I have a wii and DS and i do love the wii. I consider myself a core gamer but I also love causal games so i like the wii's libary but there is no reason for them to be talking sh#t!. Just keep the games coming and continue the Blue Ocean Plan. I will say they wii does have a wide range of games that appeal to everybody and i love what their doing

see i think quantity will win. in america, a lot of tennie's like FPS. i HATE FPS, cant stand them, the only good one was 007 on N64 and only becuase it was "new". i like J-RPG. some people ONLY like platformers. MANY people only like casual games.

Giving this wide varity leads to a TON of sales, ill admit the nintendo has not banked on the hard core crowd to much, we got what Metriod and Zelda, thats it really....

But keep pushing FPS for those types, RPG's for my type, platformers, casual, the wii wil statically win...

But the ps3 is actually showing signs of a library in the next 2 weeks.

I would exepct that developers will pump out games much faster because the programing is supposed to be similar to the gamecube (lower learning curve)

ill probably get metroid eventually but theres far to many excellent games being released on other consoles to get a mediocre game. and "360 wii ps3 yup", i understand theres a large number of games being released, most just dont appeal to ME. before folks start getting crazy, im just not into those types of games that much. its a matter of preference. im definitely not putting you down for liking those games. ill probably pick up MP3, and mario cart, but like i said before theres many more games that appeal to me more than anything on that list but they are on other consoles. the wii is decent and all, just imo its a secondary console.

Err...what kinds of games do you like?

The Wii has fighting, shooter, multiple different sports, racing, platformer, action, RPG, and even sim games out or comming.

If you don't like any of that, what do you like, and what games are you getting for the other systems? I doubt they fall outside of all of those catagories, but if they do, obviously the Wii has nothing for you.

Of course Nintendo should be bragging right now. They have a huge actual number of games and have been selling the most systems of any of the three consoles. What kind of idiots would say "Oh, jeez, sorry, our game selection kinda blows. Only casuals buy our product."

That's just stupid marketing.

PS Has anyone heard of Super Mario Galaxy? Metroid Prime 3 Corruption? Super Smash Bros Brawl? All three are contenders for game of the year. If that's not a great game selection, I don't know what is.

21 - EVERY game is a good game...

... to somebody. What I may not like, someone loves. And of course vice-versa. Any system - XBOX 360, PS3 or Wii should have every right to brag about launching a steady stream of games per month.

Not every game is created for every person. This is why I tend to stay away from calling a game "lame" or "not hardcore" - because someone finds pretty much any game entertaining and IS hardcore about it.

Take my little sister for example - she absolutely LOVES that new Wii game "Boogie". Do I like it? No. However, you can't pull her away from it. She absolutely loves it. You can say this for almost any game.

So we all may think that games like "Boogie" are lame, but to someone it is a great game. Some people think that Halo, Bioshock, Resistance, GTA 4, etc. are lame as well.

I know that I am WAY in the minority here with such a mindset, but I just wanted to share my opinion, that's all.

I like this site a LOT better when it can be a community of people that just love games and being entertained by games. We are all gamers, no matter what we like.

360...doesn't have that many great games, but certainly more than the other two systems.. All of you 360 fanboys are overhyping it's selection.

PS3...has no great games, but will in the next few months probably.

Wii...has maybe 2 great games as of next week, though everyone has to remember that Zelda is just a GC port pretty much. Also, in all these lists I see of upcoming wii games people list games like Red Steel 2 as a great upcoming game. Did you PLAY RS1? It looked worse than Goldeneye!

Let's face it - none of the systems make you go "Oh man, I NEED to buy this system because there are 5 games I'm dying to play." The next year is the real test, because developers for the PS3 and Wii will have had much more time to make good games (hopefully). And for all you PS3 fanboys who dis casual gaming, I have three words for you: Little Big World. Hypocracy hurts, doesn't it?

P.S. I'm a wii owner, waiting to decide whether I want a PS3 or 360 - depending on which one puts out better games in the coming months. And I know what you're all thinking - but no, it isn't hard to own one console and still be unbiased.

The 360 should have more games, and more good games than the other two consoles. I'll risk the same person disagreeing with me as before, but the PS2 puts the 360's game library to shame, too, but it's been around longer, so it should. Same for the 360 compared to the Wii/PS3.

I would agree that PS3 has no great games yet, but they should be comming (though some of the "great games" have been getting poor reviews.)

The Wii has a few great games out right now. Yeah, a lot of the games so far were planned for GC, but that doesn't add to or take away from the experiance. Zelda, Super Paper Mario, Mario Strikers, RE4 are all great games on the Wii, and it has a lot of great games comming up without having to look at RS2 (think No More Heroes, Fire Emblem, Ghost Squad, Sadness, and Trauma Center and that's not even looking at the Holy Trinity!)

A lot of 3rd parties have gone halfway on bad games or waggle ports which gives the Wii a lot of terrible games, but no one should let that take away from the greatness that does grace the Wii.

It seems the only time we notice the brightest star in the sky is when we can't see the others because of it. No one would dare ignore the sun if it was just one of thousands of stars you saw during the day. Why then do so many people look down on the Wii in spite of it having nearly as many good games as the 360, and comming a year behind, and more than the 360.
