Bioshock 2 Fan Artist Made It Big, 2K's Loss Is Insomniac's Gain

Ripten: "Way back in March of 2008, we reported on a pretty impressive Bioshock 2 fan art collection by then student Ben Mauro. The art was so well done that it caught the attention of 2K Games Community Manager Elizabeth Tobey. That was just the beginning for a kid who 'never expected anything to come' from his school assignment."

Talented kid it seems. Good to see him succeed. R3 next year I predict. Hopefully they'll make the weapon wheel come back (at least just for single player).

3 - Beautiful
piece of work. Would rather him work on R3 than R&C. Resistance needs a new direction IMO.

I agree.. Id like resistance 3 to be a bit darker. Plus I liked resistance 1 color palette and resistance 2 I thought was a bit to colorful.

Have to agree the color palette of Resistance 2 didn't feel right after 1. The Resistance story just feels better when it is a little more gritty.

I swear I must be the only one that really liked the second Resistance. I hated the weapon wheel from the first one. Makes things to easy.

Your not the only one. There were some great improvements in R2. I enjoyed R2 more than FOM, but I think R3 needs the darker color pallet and closer combat.

I would love to see him take Ratchet and Clank in a darker direction.

4.1 - Well..
The Ratchet and Clank series is known for vibrant visuals and lots of exploding things. If they go any darker than the game might not have the same WOW factor to it. Also if it goes darker then a Sheepinator won't fit into the game. That's my favorite one...
Fun silly weapons, lots of exploding baddies, colorful palette, cartoony look. Those are what make Ratchet and Clank what it is.

awesome artworks really suits resistance 3's atmosphere or whatever you call it, not bioshock's IMO.

His work is amazing. He can draw almost anything. Landscapes, portraits, characters, vehicles, and more. Just incredible top-quality artwork.

I remember these paintings- I like them a lot. They remind me a bit of Ridley Scott's Alien and Bladerunner with a touch of Batman and have a very 1930s industrial feel. A giant whale will always remind me of the great Clanker's Cavern level in Banjo Kazooie as well.
(by the way, the glass ceilings of the artwork, and in the first Bioshock game itself, are not only reminiscent of the art deco period but the conservatories and exhibition halls of the Victorians as well).

Very good artwork. I have a friend who is a very talented artist. His work is on par with what this Ben guy is doing. Maybe I should send him a link and see if he would like to get hired as an artist somewhere.
