Super Street Fighter IV is a Bad Move for Capcom

PS3Informer weighs in on why releasing Super Street Fighter IV a year after Street Fighter IV is such a bad move for Capcom. They draw comparisons to the Madden series and Burnout Paradise games.

"Capcom calls Super Street Fighter IV the 'ultimate vision' of Street Fighter."

Then what the hell did we buy in February?

ODST was a full price title and no i don't own a 360 anymore. Also you are more then likely not that into fighters as i am. Nor as competitive.

Also i bought the Wii for capcom vs tatsunoko. Just because of it being an amazing fighter that i got to try out in Japan.

@Xlll

It is true that it won't be full price but they still have not said what price it will be and if it's $50 no deal. It needs to be $30 for it to be even close to a good deal. It's not that much of a improvement and in this day and age it should have been DLC(I don't care what they say about it not being possible it is and they want more money then DLC can provide)

If they can patch fps like Gears, CoD for balance issues and exploits. I'm sure they can patch street fighter for simple stat and ai changes. They just don't want to because they can make a bunch more money selling you the same fixes in a plastic for $40 than thru download for $20. Simple economics people. Stop making excuses for them like a kidnap victim siding with his captors.

@Xlll - That's the point. ODST is an over-priced expansion pack. If you still had your 360, I'm sure you would have gotten that too to prove how hardcore you are.

I'm not trying to pick on you, but I'm just trying to expose the mentality a lot of fans put themselves through to defend these money-grubbing moves publishers pull.

and you will find more than half of the complainers belong to 1 or more of those groups:
1. people who suck at SF4.
2. people who don't care much about SF4.
3. people who bought halo ODST for $60 and thought was worth it.
4. people who buy Madden, Winning Eleven or FIFA every year.

EDIT

5. people who really don't even know what is going to be included in SSF4

take the blazblue route. rebalance everything, new characters, continued story, remade stages, new HUD. give it an arcade release, then a console release. then maybe its justifiable to charge near full price for it.

1.13 - Man.........................
All the complainers are people who either suck, don't care about Street Fighter and/or don't care about the fighting genre.

As far as I'm concerned their opinions on the matter don't mean a damn.

I wish there was another channel that real SF fans and serious fighting fans could talk about the upcoming game and other fighting games. But we're on N4G so hating-ass people are obviously going to spill over into topics that don't even concern them. It's annoying and just causes clutter.

I highly doubt a patch could change the whole inner workings on SFIV into the mechanics that SSFIV will have. The two games won't even be compatible online. Either way, no matter what the haters say: I will be playing this game day 1 along with all the other hardcores.

I love the Street Fighter community. It's all about respect. There's no room for haters or scrubs (unless the scrubs have the drive to continue honing in on their skill and learning). Hell, everyone starts off as one.

1.14 - SF4 to me, is like Halo odst to you!
If any of you bought the ODST Expansion pack for full price because your a Fan of Halo, Don't even complain or talk Sh1t about capcom and super SF4... If anything, MS learned from capcom, since we all know capcom has a history with street fighter 2: this and that, all while charging full price for the same game with some upgrades here and there...

I've been a Fan of the street fighter series since the original street fighter 2 came out, thats why I'm likely to buy the next installment, not at full price though. sure I'm a big fan, but also, I'm not careless with my money either, therefore I'll most likely hold out and get it used, unless capcom charges between $30-$40...
If you think capcom is ripping you off, its obvious that your NOT a Street fighter Fan, so don't whining about it cause you won't understand...

My original purchase seems to be a waste of money now seeing as how there releasing a "definitive" version with more characters and a better parry system. Capcom has really taken the piss(I'm from the u.s and can't think of a better term) out of buying their games. The worst part is is, I'm mosy likely gonna get it cause the the parry system(can't remember what it was called.) makes the game a lot more hardcore.

Infinity Ward for all the sh!t they could have done with the sequel isn't giving fans the original game with extra characters and a better parry system(WTF was it called)What this release tells me is that I should have never purchased the original and just waited on something that was never hinted at to begin with. Whine, whine, whine if you liked the original. (I have spend at least 1000 hours playing SF4) then what is the problem with an upgrade in all honesty, I cant wait. Its not a full price title, even Capcom is calling it an expansion, so whats the issue. $40 dollars for an expansion of a game I have played to death seems worth it to me. This is just like playing Starcraft and then having the option to buy Brood Wars. You don't need to, but the experience will be different for the game depending on what you have.

8.2 - It not a milk....
its called an expansion. This is not a full price release. its an upgrade much like they have on PC's. You buy Starcraft you can expand your experience by buying Broodwars, you have Warcraft 3 why not expand to the frozen throne. Again this purchase is not a have to they are merely upgrading and expanding everything from the base game. Milking is what they did with the costume DLC and what EA does by selling you unlock codes for stuff already in the game. Thats milking it. Or how about the minor upgrade IW is doing for MW2 yet most of you can't wait to shell out $60 bones for that over-hyped garbage. The only people who are complaining about the SSFIV are those who just suck at the game and don't understand why an expansion is needed or those who don't spend hours upon hours playing the game and know that the game does need a major overhaul. And this is suppose to be it. Everything planed sound huge, so $40 (estimate) is not to much for an overall different experience.

It's not that big of a deal. 40 bucks for an updated SF4 with balance changes, new fighters etc is enough for me. After 10 years since the last SF I'm glad they'll be revising and supporting SF4. I would like it to be DLC for 20 bucks just like the next guy. But I plan on getting SSF3 after spending a good amount of time on 4.

4 wasn't a beta it was merely the building blocks and foundation on which SSF4 will improve on. I expect there to be another SF4 revision after Super as well with more refinements. Just like SF3.

Isn't a beta nothing but a test to see how things are before you ship with the real product? And if you think like that Madden along with countless other games with sequels are in a perpetual state of beta tests with the final game in a series being the "final product".

I guess this is all word play and semantics. Think of it as you would like to.

Capcom has gotten greedy as of late. First they charge you extra for outfits that would have been included in the game had DLC never existed. Then they charge you to play multiplayer on RE5. Now they decide to re-release SFIV as Super SFIV and charge who knows how much.

Wake up...it is not the 90's anymore. People aren't going to be buying a Street Fighter every year because you tweak or add a couple of characters.

@Reibooi It doesn't matter to me don't buy it simple as that.

@tin - SF created a the fighting game scene. This isn't Halo. If you follow the competitive scene chances are you traveled to to tournaments and keep an eye on any fighting game both here in NA and in JP. Those are the ppl Capcom is targeting with this game. If you don't like it then don't buy it. The less scrubs the better.

@swingingape - This isn't the same as patching a bug in a FPS. They are reworking the fighting system and balancing the fighters. Also please tell us how you know this isn't worth it?

Everyone here sounds like those kids that petitioned Left 4 Dead 2.

Oh please you guys will moan about the same thing with Blazblue Continuum shift , in a few weeks or months , regardless of its price too .

Every report since the loketest in japanese arcade since 9/25 shows a game whose balance is massively modified , with 2 new characters so far whom every BB player actually expected and wish for , new moves , boost and nerf for every existing one , and Massive retooling of the games mechanics , plus some light graphical changes .

All of the above wont be a DLC , and the same dance will start all over again , for a game you also wont care about .

All that while at least 11 millions of Call of duty modern warfare 2 customers wont have anything bad to say about it . Despite a numbers of changes appalling and quite light , in comparison of both SSF4 and BB CS .

I paid $80 Australian for SF4 on release day. I have already put over 100 hours into it . I'm still playing probably a total 3 or 4 hours a week .sometimes more when I get time

I'm happy to buy a completely new revision of it next year same as i was when I upgraded everytime a new snes or PS1 version came out .And I'll buy a new one the year after that if it comes out .

If you know and love the game you'll buy SSF4 with out a 2nd thought. If you just like it then you dont need to buy it

Half of the posters probably dont even play or own the game . Still it's all right if you dont want to buy it , but at least get yourself informed .

There are list of changes floating around and they are massive PLUS minimum 8 added characters with one already new one confirmed + A new online code .

Everyone that knows blazblue is hoping SSF4 will feature GGPO netcode .. basically the best netcode available for fighting games .

And if it's indeed the case like the news implies (or at least a new online code even if not GGPO) , NO IT CANT BE ON A DLC .

If you want to challenge the claim , then by all means point us to even ONE game who change its online code and engine through patching or dlc ...
You simply wont , at most you'll find light tweaks and some patch , but not a whole online overhaul .

Really please do instead of moaning and finding pitiful excuse to hate the game , just because bla bla bla "super mega street fighter 2 ++ alpha turbo"

And i'm talking about changing an entire code , not just light tweaking and upgrades ...

By all means once you've at last informed yourselves about the numerous changes and additions , please do tell if the content isnt quite comparable to the one found in actual numerical sequel of all the other fighting games ??

Take tekken 6, if feature almost the same level of changes and added content when compared to tekken 5 dr . With one major difference , an ew graphical engine .

It doesnt matter anyway , i find the complaint reeking of quite some BS when in the past , the like of sf2 championship , turbo , the various strike of SF3 , and other variation of a same title , didnt bring EIGHT new characters along with many other changes . At best half the number .

Finally please explain how you guys were going to balance the game between dlc owners and stubborn original game owners . How do you balance old Guile vs Super sf4 guile ? How do other gamers handle new fighters they dont have access to ? Do you make the old and new stuff unavailable and incompatible with the old one then ? Then what's even the point ?

How do people travel between various home and location with the game ? You wont be able to copy the dlc , and you wont go through the hassle of adding your account , then downloading it on each new console you met .. nor will you walk around with your everytime ...

Some people forget sf4 and other fighting game are massively played in local multi .

PS :

I also firmly believe that if Capcom was to go full dlc , we would be only hurting ourselves , with a big revision probably chopped down to 5-10 pieces , distributed at a really slow pace , but with a final cost exceed the frickin' upcoming disk ... wich isnt even going to be charged at full price ...

Bah i'm wasting my time whnever that topic comes up ... i only wish people not even interested in fighting games and/or sf4 would stop trying to ruin it for others .

i've notice quite a few that already stated they dont even play sf4 or gave up , and now they are like "i wont buy it!!" , who cares ? You wouldnt get it dlc or not .

16 - To all the people complaning....
Look up Starcraft, warcraft 2 and 3, world of warcraft, F.E.A.R., Half-life 2. Notice that all those games have something called expansion packs. The expansion themselves are pretty much the same as the base game, but the developers added tweak to the games system add new units or simply upgraded the game with an expanded story. Thats the same thing that is happening here. This is not the same game with a character upgrade, its all new network code, new fighters, new stages, more balance to the fight system, even new story points. It's an expansion but I guess most people here complaining are to young to remember hay-day PC gaming and what an expansion meant to your purchase.

It's changes are comparatively far less important than those of any fighting game's "expansion" or sequels , and its price even increased ...

yet people will lap it up with only a minority complaining .
