Microsoft Phil Spencer Interview

As the boss of Microsoft Game Studios, Phil Spencer has a pretty big say in what you play on your Xbox 360.

From the Microsoft exclusives such as Gears of War 2 and Fable II through to the exciting new technology of the future in Project Natal, Phil Spencer is one of the guiding hands helping mould the future of Microsoft's console.

1.1 - ya
he answered the questions well, without giving out too many hints about what they are going to do.

Natal will surely revolutionize the gaming world all without looking like a sex toy at the same time.
you've got to give to MS, they really are doing well.

Natal is their first priority it seems.
Which is good and bad in some ways.

I really hate this big push by both Sony and MS to invade the casual market.

The Wii cornered it and beat that market to death, everyone knows this. Now everyone knows how garbage and gimmicky the Wii is, do we really need another Wiimitation 3 to 4 years later?

MS should be concentrating on more games for the *sigh* hardcore, and dare I say the N4G buuuuzzword....Exclu...NO I REFUSE..First Party Games!

Natal looks great I just hope this doesn't become MS's main focus for the next couple of years.

Im happy with the first party games MS is putting out this year and next year..Sometimes quantity is not better. The PS3 has lots of exclusive titles that really dont get the recognition it should bec of how many exclusive titles they are putting out..
Just my opinion.

You know maniac, that's exactly how I feel.

They guy basically says, they let go of their 1st-party hardcore devs to develop 1st-party casual games and Live services. They let go of devs like Ensemble and acquired Big Park to make some f2p microtransaction game called Joyride when you could have had Ensemble working to corner the RTS market on consoles, maybe with Natal. Or less theoretically, a Halo MMO. Don't even get me started on Rare's disappointing statement.

And MS are content to do what they've been doing as he pointed out with Shadow Complex. They're fine with mining 3rd-party devs to get these exclusive titles. Problem is, that seems to suggest they're fine with inevitably losing them as often happens this gen.

I can't say it's bad business, cos it's likely not, but they're really starting to lose me on their focus here.

5 - Well Exclusives will stay Exclusives.
Alan Wake
SC Conviction
Mass Effect 2
Fable 3
CrackDown 2
Halo Reach
Milo

2010 looks already InSane so i dont think they need more hardcore games for 2010...Maybe Gears of War 3 or some RaRe Big Game...Who Knows PGR5 From Turn10 or Some AAA Game from BiGPark...Who knows...

I just hope Natal gers a really Big Launch with Really GREAT Gsmes and not stupid Casual Games just to sell like Wii.

Nice interview , Microsoft is going really smart this Gen and its being worth it!

2009 its not that good only Halo Wars (Worth) for now but Halo 3 ODST , Forza 3 and Left for Dead 2 are Coming and those are 3 Triple A Games !!!

Joining this the Multis Blockbusters like AC2 and MW2 and this Year will be Amazing but not as good as 2010 will be ofc... :)

5.1 - 2009 is sony's year but 2010
i believe will be Microsfts year. Natal will make 2010 Microsfts year (if companys can own a year that is) as they are heavily behind it and i know the xbox community cannot wait to see how it will work and what games they will have.

I have to agree, 09 is not the great year for MS, I've only got 2 games that are exclusive on my pre-order list the rest are multis. But next year seems like it will be a great year.

Natal looks like it will be strong to the casys, but It won't be replacing my race wheel anytime soon.
