Fable II Set to Pioneer Episodic Content on Xbox 360 Games on Demand Service

Following the official unveiling of Fable III, Microsoft has announced that Fable II will be offered as episodic releases on Xbox LIVE. While Fable II has become the best-selling Role-Playing Game yet released on Xbox 360, there are apparently some who still have not experienced the magic and adventures that await them in Albion. The launch of Fable II: Game Episodes will debut September 29, 2009, with the release of the first episode for free download exclusively on Xbox LIVE.

1.2 - It's a weird decision.
But at the same time it's pretty cool. Siren Blood Curse did something similar, if not the same. They just didn't offer the first episode for free.

Eh? I picked up a new copy of Fable2 the other day for £9.50-lord knows what price you could get it for in a bundle on Ebay!

My point is when it's about £20 at the dearest as a complete game what price per episode are they going to charge and why on earth would people pay it if it's more than £1.50? I can't see it being that cheap either and at least with Siren:BC on PS3 they put the episodes out before the disc based full game so where is the supposed benefit in betting it episodically?

To be honest I don't have the first idea why they're doing this, not this way round anyway and I'm looking forward to seeing just what they plan to charge and why. I'm puzzled at this so long after the game's dropped and gotten cheap both pre owned and new-I don't see where the profit is, what the point is and what the benefit could possibly be to gamers who can pick the game up for peanuts in any case.

Oh well, they must have looked into this but I don't know if this is the way to try out episodic content.

Really? Whatever happened to that aborted attempt to slice up the last Tomb Raider title?

5 - I thought that
the new Monkey Island already did that?

On the Windows release there are 5 episodes launched 1 month apart. and the first episode was released a month ago, but maybe Peter didn't know that? ;)

I don't have access to either, I only got the Windows version, so I was asking an honest question.

So you information about Monkey Island doesn't mean anything to me.

But thanks for answering in such a mature way. :-/

5.3 - Maybe that's how they're planing on doing all/most of their GOD.
broken into segments with the first part given up for free as a demo. Actually a good idea, but it gives them a lot of leeway to overcharge. not that they aren't already.

i wish i could say its cool... i mean it is cool in a way..

but deep down i just see it as them testing new was to get as much money from gamers as possible. trying to outdo the pre-owned market which they know they loose millions on. I am prob one of the few people who actually got fable 2 and could not even be bothered to play it. I bought it and after thinking twice about it sold it to a friend.

we have seen a lot of new trends set this gen... some of them good, some of them bad. serving games in bite size chunks so you can charge more for it then you know you would get away with selling it in the shops, smart. if only the average gamer was as smart and didn't fall for the crap.

anyway, as long as shops sell pre-owned i will always go for that option.

sorry if i sound like i am moaning ( i mean i am i confess) i just turned 30, my aim seems to be getting slower, still don't own my dream car yet and everywhere i look my favorite past time is trying to shake as much money out of me as possible.

Couldn't have said it better myself. It just reeks of a money grab to me. Why buy it in 5 pieces when I can get it in one?
