Are Gamers as Weak as the Industry Thinks We Are?

From HDWarriors.com:

To many it is laughable to think that gamers have the strength of will to follow through on a boycott of a game of a popular series. People say one thing in order to vent frustration, but do they really intend to do it? It brings about interesting questions, and perhaps even a crossroads where we as gamers will look back and see how our actions have defined ourselves in the public eye.

Let's set aside the recent Activision outrage for a moment and look within for a moment. Test ourselves on an individual level and see if we are capable of being the unified force that we'd like to be, or the crackhead-like lemmings that some companies seem to think we are. One way to do that is to consider the current scenario but imagine other games and companies in place of Activision.

Yes.

I'm willing to bet roughly 8/10 of the people up in arms crying boycott, aren't gonna follow through. Hell, some of you will probably go on to attend midnight launches and pick up your Prestige editions. Gamers will rage over anything, but are also extremely fickle, so nothing really ever happens.

People are weak. I remember a lot of people who said they were gonna boycott Harry Potter 6 and guess what, they went to the midnight showing. It's takes a lot of dedication to actually go through with a boycott.

No, i'm ripped!

Seriously though, i agree with Xiphos and Saaking. Gamers as a whole love to vent over alot of things but a big majority will never follow through on what they say.

I don't agree with Activision's recent controversies. I think their actions are shameful and i gladly signed the boycott based on the principle of those actions and their attitude towards paying gamers in general.

I won't be buying MW2 new (i was never massively bothered about it to begin with anyway) but i'd guarantee alot of harcore COD fans will sign the boycott but still go out and buy it day one anyway.

It's a shame as if people really did make a stand it could potentially make a difference and companies might sit up and take notice but too many people are willing to just follow the heard and pay any price for their gaming fix.

It's human nature... "Well, me not buying it won't make any difference so i might aswell buy it anyway otherwise i will miss out". That's what these greedy corporations on banking on, that very heard mantality.
