Guerrilla Games Not Done with the PS3

"Halo started it all for console first person shooters as we know them, and until Call of Duty 4 came along, it was pretty much unopposed. One failed attempt to take the crown was the original Killzone, which received a poor response from gamers everywhere. Killzone 2 launched on the PlayStation 3 earlier this year in February and has gone up against the juggernauts of the FPS genre. TheGamerAccess.com was hungry for more information on Killzone 2 and the future plans of Guerrilla Games so they were nice enough to answer many of our questions."

i want to see their engine do something else. And i wasnt a big fan of the generic storyline of K2. Just imagine a sandbox RPG with killzone 2 graphics kinda like The Elder Scrolls?? That would be awesome. Hoping for a new IP GG.

I read and watch alot of early 20th century history. GG used it as an inspiration for their KZ Universe which is why i find it very interesting. The Helgan Invasion is just a short burst of the overall story. People forget this.

Since I don't really play shooters anymore, of course I hope they'll show us what they can do in another genre.

I love RPGs, but I don't think that's likely. Does GG have any RPG experience? If not, I doubt they'd risk a genre they possibly have no clue about. So I expect a KZ3 or a 3PS. It's all good.

As for good guys and bad guys...both sides of war are a good/bad guy in the eyes of some. You just always play the 'good guy' in games.

That'd be something new. Play as Nazi's in a WW2 shooter. Play as the Helghast in Killzone 3 (which could lead to your point above about Visari's manipulation).

I'm hoping for Killzone 3. Killzone is a huge IP, Guerrilla shouldn't switch to another one, not yet. Besides it would be really awesome to play as a Helghast in Kz3 singleplayer campaign, after all the ISA are really the bad guys.

there are 3 games that come to mind when talking about GG and that's KZ(PS2), KZ Liberation(PSP) and KZ2(PS3)! why are people expecting them to try a different thing already? that just shows how crowded the FPS market at the moment but to come out with KZ2 which was touted as impossible on this generation of consoles is an achievement for GG and a lot of people seem to neglect that, which is SAD! Bungie did 3 Halos and then parted from M$ but will still come out with not 1 but 2 halos! SE have been doing RPG since what, 15 year? or may be more, I don't know but why none complaining? I would like GG to just concentrating on KZ3 for now and make it an even epic FPS than KZ2! GO GG!!

@ Karum well i haven't played Killzone 2 but Helghast are like germany before WW2 during poverty they were bullied by the other countries because of WW1 and during there darkest days they choose Hitler to lead em out of darkness which is what the Helghast are and Visari is Hitler

At least this interview ends the discussion of a party system coming to Killzone 2. That is my #1 complaint with Killzone 2 because the online experience is amazing, but it can be a pain to get into a game with friends.

I just started playing killzone again yesterday (last time played was march) and I forgot how much I liked that game. There are things like the party system that sucks but I did see that they extended the ranks so now there are 3 more levels above general. I would also like to see some co-op a la R2 added.

I remember playing Halo exactly they way I played Golden Eye and Perfect Dark for the N64. I played it with four friends over on the same screen on the same console? Halo did not change anything for me. Unless he is referring to Halo 2, which did change the way I played FPS on a console. If he was referring to Halo 2, then he should have made that clear.

but when he says "as we know them" he's most likely referring to online/LAN play. FPS's these days are known for online fragfests, not the split-screen all-nighters from the golden days of the N64 (see what I did there). Although many halo fanatics relegated their gaming to single-system play, the game did offer, for the first time on consoles, the ability to at least play LAN matches with up to 16 players.

With the advent of services like Xbconnect and Xlink Kai these LAN games pushed out across the world. It was essentially the beginning of mainstream online FPS play on consoles. That, my friends, is something Goldeneye and Perfect Dark did not offer.

But I guess there is this undying love for those classics, along with an intensely popular hatred for the Halo series, so I'm probably totally wrong. My bad.

I think he like others have pointed was referring to Halo setting the standards for online/Lan and of course today's modern control scheme for console FPS Games.

I'm a Halo fan myself, but to me Perfect Dark will always be the best console FPS ever made. It still has more features than every console FPS since.

I just hope they tone down the amount of players and focus on the gameplay in the MP. Too many players really lagged the servers in this game.

I thought KZ2 had a good SP campaign, it just took a while to get going, but especially the last boss fight. I don't care who you are, play that mission on the hardest mode and you will get your ass handed to you.

maybe KZ3 or maybe they'll go back and make Shellshock the first was good but short the second also great but short and no replay value and story you don't care i'd like to see them make Shellshock 3 with KZ2 graphics that would be crazy or maybe KZ3 but what's with ppl calling KZ2 generic really ppl are so anti Sony i ain't saying you have to love KZ2 hell i haven't bought it i want to but i always chose something else like really no one called Fear 2 generic no one called Halo 3 generic or even COD4 generic and even with MW2 being generic still no one goes oh it's generic really what makes KZ2 more generic than those games i haven't played KZ2 but from what i've seen and the intro it doesn't look generic and story wise seems pretty solid with the Helghast and invasion of Helghan having strong Nazi germany inspiration really you want meaningful story in a FPS get Bioshock or MGS4 and play it in first person view

I completely agree with seeing what their engine can do. But what really intrigues me is how much more amazing their game will become from the work by other devs being incorporated into it.

like How Uncharted's had great tech from GG's help and how it could well be vice versa.

The jump from Uncharted 1 and Uncharted 2 in terms of scope, textures, effects, character models and such is just astounding. No doubt helped by Santa Monica I'm thinking.

not to mention other's like the last guardian.

The future is going to be very interesting.

I feel your pain in a big way. I, for one, loved Too Human for instance. I realize this probably sounds inconceivable, but it's true. I played the heck out of it and loved every minute, yet the whole world has condemned it to the 45th ring of video game hell (yes there are more rings in the video game hell because video games are friggin' awesome).

I respect your appreciation of Killzone 1, although I doubt anyone will respect my appreciation of Too Human.

Well, maybe in the USA it costs 400 USD but here in germany, it costs 299euro in every Saturn/ Media-Market and still ppl dont buy it. Also KZ2 hasnt a really big nme in Europe, maybe you have in the USA better marketing, more TV adds i dont know.

There wont be Killzone in 2014 cause there will be a new PS in 2014.

Just look at VC2, SOny drops the support for the PS3, they want it only on psp. Handhelds + motion control are the future.
