360 sells more than Wii and DS in UK's 2009

The UK's current generation console installed base has topped 24 million, with the Xbox 360 selling the most out of all the video game consoles in 2009.

Despite the Nintendo DS and Nintendo Wii leading out in sales over the past 12 months it's interesting to look at data for 2009 itself.

The last data from Gfk Charttrack came on January 3rd 2009, where the total UK installed base of the current generation of consoles hit 22 million. If you look a little closer you'll notice that the Xbox 360 has sold the most units in the past six months of 2009.

This is only where I live in New York, but I will promise you Playstation isn't very popular here anymore. Playstation is now the "uncool" brand here. If you look, PS3, psp and PS2 are dead last, while Xbox 360 is now beating the Wii even in UK. I can't wait to seem 2010.

Its not like that in other places...I'm sure PS3 is huge in Sri Lanka and Cambodia, but times have and are continuing to change in America, Europe, Australia, etc.

lol Playstation has a stigma now, like it or not. Its not that popular anymore.

Also, Microsoft said they were beating Sony in Europe, PAL Region, Australia, Russia...back in January. Xbox 360 doesn't only have 2 regions.

Having two of the biggest territories is quite impressive. And the PS brand isnt dead yet, more like its crippled and on life support and once GT5, GOW3 and a pricecut come it will be like the final dose of medicine the doctors can give. Unless I missed it....I don't see where anybody said anything about the quality of the ps3.....every post has just been stating that the 360 is selling well. I think the ps3 suffers from the fact that for those who just want to play games....the ps3 has not necessarily shown a big graphical difference that warrants paying extra for a ps3....especially if I am all about multiplatform games. And to some degree I have to agree with the Sony Brand not being the same. Back in the day, Madden and Sony use to go hand in hand....but now if you look at the Madden tour....its being played on the 360.

Konami is paying MS, not the other way around, Konami has to pay royalties to be able to release a metal gear ont he 360.

Put it this way, if you are the head of marketing of a major videogame company, and you got a successful game serie on your hand, and theres 2 high spec consoles in the market who are divided by 40 and 60 %.

Would you put the game only on the platform with the 40 % ?
I can tell you if you do, your boss wont be happy with you, and you surely wont make any promotion.

So MS doesnt have to bribe anybody, any gaming company that isnt owned by either sony, or MS, and doesnt have an exclusive contract right now, would commit financial suicide if they keep their franchise on one platform only.

Companies don't pay to make things multi-platform. They pay to keep things exclusive. Why would a company purposfully limit their market by developing for a single console, unless they're being paid? It's why you hear about MS paying for exclusive content like gta.

The truth is that sony didn't pay enough to keep FF and MGS:r exclusive, that's why they're coming to the 360.

Actually, the percentage of games rated over 80% is higher on the PS3 than on the 360 and the Wii. The PS3 is actually very close to the amount of actual number of games on the 360 rated over 80% - quite a feat considering there are 100+ more games on the 360 (ie. lots of crap)

Percentage is meaningless when it comes to game ratings unless you close your eyes and choose games at random. You DON'T have to play the bad games to get to the good games. As consoles get more popular, and more games are released, the percentage of highly rated games will ALWAYS go down. Look at the PS2 - it has over 400 games rated 60 or lower at Metacritic.

Would you rather own a console with 100 total games - 50 of which are 80+ rated (50%), or a console with 500 total games - 200 of which are 80+ (40%)?

Yes as we all know with Final Fantasy 13 and 14 the PS3 wont do well in Japan.

Europe is fairly shared, so I will not comment, we'll have to see what happens with motion controller war, hopefully hardcore games will win, but I'm not too sure for the ease of making casual games and the wider market means they are more profitable.

piracy has gone up four fold this year in the uk on the 360 thats a bit worrying for the devs.looking at the share ratio on ps3 versus 360 its 45% 55% in all most all cases favoring the 360 yet the system sales say different.theres people going for the arcade for the copy,s no doubt there,ps2 was the same piracy is becoming ripe once more.

It seems that a system allmost 'needs' some piracy, were even the hacked systems show to friends what a 360 can do. See it as some sort of marketing, were friends will buy the 360 and might just buy originals they see running at their friends hacked 360 with burned games... Who knows...

For the time being the game attach rate on the 360 remains a lot higher then on PS3 platform which isn't hacked.

Its pretty sad when a 200$ consoles only outsells a 400$ one by 200k
:/ Go PS3!!! 400*500k= 200mil=ps3 vs 200*700k=140mil=360.....I wonder who the clear winner is.We all know production cost and tax play a huge role and of course not everyone bought the same model and not even for the same price. But lets look at it for the elite. 300*700k=210mil Thats only a 10 mil difference and where not adding in all the profits sony make from ps2 and psp sales. So really Sony aint doing bad and 360 isn't doing any better. Suck it xbots

Also i'd really love to see individual SKU sales as that will definitely shut the xbots up. And maybe we should see consoles breakdowns and such :p. Guarrantee that atleast 100k of those consoles for 360 broke or RROd or E74ed
