PS2 selling so much is a no brainer if you ask me. It's 99 Euro now overhere in The Netherlands. THat's the money one has in pocket when going into town to spend on all kind of things. Even families. Presents for birthdays, Christmas, any of that events 100 dollar/euro is pretty normal these days.

400 euro/dollar or even worse, 600 euro/dollar isn't a present anymore. That's a mortgage indeed.

And that's why the PS2 sells like hot cakes. Heck I even advice people to buy a PS2 to have the great PS exclusives that are out there, since there are none yet on the PS3 and for the next gen experience with a real descent online one, buy a 360

THat's 400+100= 500 dollar/euro for the best gaming experience combined ever. DOn't forget to buy Gears of War, FNR3, PGR3, Lost Planet, Dead Rising, Rainbow Six, God of War 1&2 and a couple of other great games with it though ;) cost ya another hundreds of euro's/dollars but well :-)

Sony king of hardware?

Oh yeah tell that to me and all those people that had their laser f*cked up in their first year or shortly after with their PS2. Couldn't play games anymore.

You know Sony's lasers are known to be bad quality? I would be afraid with the PS3 laser dude... Don't play too much BR movies otherwise your games also might not load in time. Ow wait there aren't so many good games for the PS3 so that ain't a problem then!!!

I see the decline in PS3 sales. After those blind lemmings that bought the console @ launch for 600 dollar/euro normal gamers aren't buying them, period. Not in Japan, not in USA, not in Europe. Not even an Eidos boss can make that different, not you, anyone.

...and as we all know if the hardware sucks the games mean nothing.I'm hoping that they fix the hardware issues on the elite so that i can feel confident purchasing a 360 instead of throwing in a bigger hdd and tacking on an hdmi.

I want one but i will not buy one until im absolutely sure that it wont overheat in the middle of a game.

That power brick also sucks but i may have to suck it up on that front.

You just can't face the fact that the Xbox 360 is the superior machine even at every aspect because the Xbox 360 has the potential to keep on going, like the new keyboard coming out this summer. We have the superior online service, superior games and superior periphals and hardware even though a small percentage has had problems which should be expected from any high-tech piece of machinery. And anyways, we are talking about the PS3 here. Who was the console who the press was covering the most? The PS3. Who was the console which was complimented because of so called high specification componants? The PS3. Who delivered the product that has the most broad set of features, games and periphals? Resistance and Motorstorm are the only descent ones, the other multiplatform are best on 360. Resistance is a mediocore shooter with just above PS2 graphics and Motorstorm is short.

Oh and I play my console and the 360 users on this website that are my friend know that :-) a lot on many games

Well, I didn't spend 600 euro for the console because of the launchtitles, my heartless friend. I spend it to play White Knight Story, Lair, Heavenly Sword, Metal Gear Solid 4 and let's not forget Folks Soul, which will all come this year or in 2008. I don't mind to wait, you'll see me on Home waiting.

Those are the main features I bought a PS3 for. Really, I considered buying a Xbox360, because of Gears of War. But, I thought, heck, let's save some more money for the PS3 cause of all those great RPG's and variety in games. I loved the PS2, and I really do believe the PS3 will end up just like its predeccor.

The reason people are buying a PS2 is because they can't afford anything else. The Xbox 360 is more within reach for them as an upgrade than a PS3. Price is the one and only thing that matters to SOME people, and those are the people who are buying PS2's. They know it's not the "best" system anymore, but they can't fork over any more beans for a decent system (PS3 included) That's the only reason the PS2 is still on shelves...they're cheap. Come NEXT generation, that will the 360's advantage over the PS3. Sony has done a lot of this right, but they have an uphill battle this time around...It'll be fun to watch.

Well you could go on and on about this, but the 360 never really took off except at christmas 2006 with phenomenal sales with Gears and also may I say no competition. There were no Wii's to be found and there was a crazy shortage of PS3's.

I mean the 360 hasn't really taken off even without supply constraints...eg. Europe it sold 1.95million in all of 2006.

But my point is that by looking at the numbers there's no way you can come to the conclusion that the ps3 is doomed, especially when it's main games haven't come out. Gears pushed the 360...the games to push the ps3 are still to come.

Part of the reason why the PS3 isn't selling well is because of the PS2. They still release games for it, and really good ones. So why would they upgrade when there good enough games to play, when adding to that there isn't that strong of a gaming lineup currently for the PS3. Why not they wait a few months when heavenly sword and the other games come out?

Thats the situation I'm in right now. I'm happy with my 360 and my PS2. And when the time comes ill get the PS3, but it will be a while. I might get a Wii sooner.

There is always some thing in the way when it comes down to getting a PS3. The Wii, new AAA PS2 titles, Xbox 360. I've asked myself why is that. Why is it that every time any one thinks of getting a PS3 their always another priority in the way? I think there would be no question if it had some stellar AAA titles or just delivered on the Sony promise of being like no other. I have never seen anything like this except in situations when the hype out weighs what the console produces for its price.

If the PS3 truly were worth it we would not even be having this discussion right now. Gamers would not say "I'll wait to see what it dose or if it is worth it. They would say the PS3 is the S#!T and bust that wallet open for it right now. So what the H@ll is stopping people from doing that today at a rapid pace?

A few hundred thousand consoles a month will not equal 12 million magically in one year like the fanatics say. RIGHT =]

Tham the games on the ps2 is also the reason why I would not move to ANY next-gen system.

As an informed consumer I know the amazing games are coming for the ps3, but I see no need to actually have one now. And I think that's fair and I'm sure Sony realise that anyway. But they have to concentrate on making their games amazing and not just pushing them out the door as quickly as they can.

A few thousand? The 12 million number is based on current figures, it's not pulled out of nowhere. It's also based on the games coming.

But the PS3 is back ward compatible. You can even play new games on it. All my friends who have PS3's play all the old games while the PS2 has been demoted. The new console should come up 1st. If people saw this for the game cube and the Wii people would be all "THIS DO NOT LOOK GOOD FOR THE Wii." But people do not say that they say the Wii is sweet forget the game cube.

Well thats because the perception is very different. Everyone has their guard up because the ps3 is so expensive.

And actually everyone is getting fed up by all the cube games on the Wii..hardly any have taken advantage of the controller and there's just Wiimakes.

Torchy seemed to be very pleased with playing all these ps2 games on his ps3 as he never had a ps2...but I shall wait for a bigger ps3 library. I'm waiting for Lair, Sigma, HS, Uncharted, MGS4 etc. June will be a good time as I can get the best out of Motorstorm and Resistance and then Lair and Sigma will be out. Plus of course all the other games that can be played on the system.

I'm sure you're aware of the FUD and everyone likes to play on it, whereas Microsoft FUD eg. red lights...seems to be forgiven very easily.

None of theses systems are going anywhere. Microsoft & Sony aren't stupid.

this fall things will change for sony and microsoft, with the releases of Halo 3 and Heavely sword, and many other games releasing between May and December.

Sony's price drop (rumor) may change sells.
Microsofts new update or Elite may hieghten there sells even more.

The ps2 is doing well because its easy to get, price wise, and by its availabilty, plus it seems to have every game everybody wants at cheap azz prices.

In order, given that these consoled all have decent-to-great libraries:
PS2 = Cheap, tops in sales.
Wii = Fairly cheap, tops the next-gen sales.
360 = More expensive, trying to keep up with Wii.
PS3 = Very expensive, having disappointing sales so early after its launch.

Do we see a trend? Cunsumers worldwide are worried about their pockets- and they've been voicing this for a while. Before this gen even started, public polls showed time after time that consumers worldwide only wanted to pay about U.S.$300 max for a next-gen console. We're seeing that pan out in spades, methinks.

Ps2 destroys that mark, Wii makes it, 360 just tops it, PS3 goes way over, and their sales are all inverses of that difference.

It's a great lesson in basic economics.

But when those who bough a ps2 will buy a ps3 in a year or two. I think ps2 will help the ps3. I think SONY is not in trouble, i mean it is a problem for the ps3 right now, but in a year or so, those who bought the ps2 will buy a ps3, that's not an opinion, it is a fact. You think that those people will get a 360, and left the ps3 out, no the won't. I think that the ps2 is a bad thing for MS, it is not a problem for SONY, because the mayority of those people who own a ps2, will try the ps3 too just like they did with the ps2, and that is when MS will be i trouble just like SONY is now. I know it still my opinion, but if you think about it, it is a fact.
