Welcome to the Internet. It is very unfortunate though, certainly will miss the site if they close indefinitely.

Come on, this is the internet, if you have a site that even close to popular you have to have multiple external backups, even if it cost you a fortune, it's the most important security measure you could possibly do.

If you have no backups, you are either extremly stupid (and therefore deserve the lesson of losing all your data) or you want to go out of business, but are not brave enough to admit it.

5 - Damn hackers
I haven't been to AVSIM in a while, not since I was heavily into FS2004 but this news is sad to hear.

So many mods created by a great community down the drain :(

Actually, I would do it to just show them how important backups are...data without backups is not data.

I doubt it was entirely pointless. Somebody probably had a grudge.

"They commented that making regular external back ups was a very difficult process, simply because of the combined size of files being stored."
Sorry I don't buy that. There's huge business systems that makes enormous back-ups every day. I hardly believe there database was exceptionally big.
