Indeed, a higher percentage of PS3 owners bought RE5, than the percentage of Xbox 360 owners who bought it. Food for thought.

Just proves that even with a 1.5 million disadvantage PS3 games are still selling just aswell. It would be interesting to see what the percentages would be if the console sales would be equal.

OFF TOPIC : VgChartz what a load of crap....Does anyone actually know the real sales for each console as the PS3 number hasnt moved in months which is obviously not true ...I think they get their numbers out their ass.

Ps3 fans attacked me by claiming that the attach rate doesn't matter.

the ps3 number on vgchartz moves every week! The only what that may appear not to is the wii because they overtracked it at christmas so adjusted it down so it then spent a while reaching the same numbers again.

SO4 is not WKC, they are different franchises. SO4 is an already well established franchise. WKC is new IP. SO4 scored better on Famitsu. RE5 is a sequel from a well established franchise on both platforms which makes for a much better comparison, just like GTA4 being split roughly 50-50, at least in terms of revenue (perhaps not in terms of numbers, but the sales in Euros compensate for lesser numbers in America, which is why in terms of revenue, they're roughly equal).

This is not about "attach rates" anyway, it's about amount of sales, and despite 360s launch and price advantages, PS3 is selling as much software on the same franchises.

Take your flawed logic out of here.

Food for thought.

I don't agree with some of the thing he say, but I don't find anything wrong with that comment. I remember seeing that comment and the number of disagrees he got by mentioning the attach rate.

You can say SO4 is an established franchise, but WKC is also one of the first major JRPG (next to perhaps Disgaea 3) developed by the proven Factor 5 to grace the JPRG starved PS3.

Perhaps we need a "rule" to say where attach rate comparison is not allowed unless we are comparing the same game. Otherwise it's always apple to orange (unless you can define what makes a game comparable if it's not the same game).

Since there isn't such a "rule", I don't find anything wrong with his attach rate comparison since they are at least both JRPGs and considered heavy hitters for the system.

The only rule we need is thinking about it. Even if WKC is the "first major JRPG on PS3", "major" is subjective, and even if it's made by Level-5, not everyone buys products just because. If WKC had "Final Fantasy", "Dragon Quest" or even "Star Ocean" Slapped before the letters WKC, the game would have sold more.

It's logical to think that a fair comparison for game sales is sales of the same game between two platforms. It doesn't leave much to interpretation.

That has to be one of the most disgustingly disrespectfull thing I have ever read.

These things happen FOR REAL and you make a catch phrase like that?

It wasn't too long ago up here in Finland (in Kauhajoki) when another young man offed himself along with 11 students/teachers in a school 100 kilometers from where I study.
I't really is terrible going to school knowing that some another idiot might kill me too during his "time of fame" some day ( I'm even more affraid for the sake of my wife and 2 children).

These are real deaths and some of us lost some dear friends in these incidents in schools lately (google it up) so it's really disgusting to come here and pretend like it's a game of some sort.

1.24 - As of January 2009
3.2 million Xbox 360's and 1.9 million PS3's. http://www.mcvuk.com/news/3... What does the 55%/45% really mean? It means there were 10% more Xbox 360 owners in the UK that bought RE5. We can guess why it sold more, I would expect the larger userbase has something to do with it. As the userbase expands, the attach rate doesn't necessarily go higher. As the userbase expands, so do gamer preferances. This is why we can have a PS2 with a 150 million userbase not selling 10 million copies of every game released. Just because there are 150 million potential customers, it doesn't mean there are 150 million fans of every game released. Same holds true for the 3.2 million Xbox 360 owners and 1.9 million PS3 owners in the UK.

I'm loving this game to pieces. I got it for the 360 after a lot of soul searching - RE has always been a PS franchise to me and I was very conflicted. However, a few key factors pushed me away from the PS3 on this one.

1. 360 was lead console.
2. Almost none of my gaming friends have a PS3 which would limit my co-op options.
3. Every comparison I've seen shows the 360 with the graphical edge (smoke and particle effects specifically)
4. Played both demos and was very surprised how much more right it felt on the s-type controller. It's a tank-ish controller for a tank-ish control scheme.

And I have to put this out there, despite what the ps3 cult will do to my bubbles: graphically, this game blows KZ out of the water. And the fact that the 360 version looks better says a lot about how well Microsoft's box can still tango in the ring with the PS3.

Ultimately, the biggest winners in this console war are the gamers who own both systems and get to experience the best that both consoles have to offer.

Food for thought.

great post, helps me a lot for choosing the platform for this game
360 seems to be better for this game, being a multiplatform.

RS 5 might look better than KZ 2 in terms of "photographic" visuals, but i think KZ 2 has better animations, physics, A.I., and interactive lighting.

Correct me if i am wrong, since i have not played RE 5

I'll give you everything you had said(though most opinion), except for resident evil 5 blowing kz2 out of the water, maybe you are actually meaning KZ as KILLZONE for the ps2, then ok I'll give ya that, but if you are talking about kz2, then I must say I think your crazy. I have re5, but I don't have kz2 :(, but I have a lot of friends who do so i have seen and played it, and I'm loving re5, but graphically you can't put it up against kz2, especially saying it blows it out of the water.

***possible spolier****?

One thing that comes to mind is the water/crocodiles part of the game, I shouldn't have to go into detail, but just picture that, the water effects, and the crocodiles that kind of float around like logs, like they just photoshopped some toys R us ones in there haha, don't get me wrong though I loved gettin to juke around them.

@ no-spin:

Totally fair assessment. Both games are essentially tunnel shooters with well-dressed walls, but RE 5 doesn't need nearly as much processing power for things like physics so it can dress the walls with even prettier stuff. And the animations are beautiful, especially when you get into the melee. Uppercutting these mofos is sooooo satisfying. Some of these RE battles get frantic and big, but never really KZ big.

But then, if I may, KZ never gets as big as Gears either.

@ JHUX:

I disagree. I personally thought the water in KZ (and yes I mean Killzone 2) was underwhelming, but I was impressed when I saw the first dock in RE5.

What KZ does exceedingly well is it's camera, lighting, and particle effects. RE5's lighting in its cutscenes is amazing, and I'd even say it rivals KZ. The character models are leagues above what KZ does in-game. Just compare Rico to Josh. Look at the skin texture and the facial capture. It's beautiful, whereas Killzone 2 is just pretty IMO.

I know I might get flamed for this, and there are certainly sequences in KZ that dropped my jaw. But whenever I stopped to admire the surroundings, they suddenly began to break down. KZ is meant to be seen MOVING - that's when it shines. But I'm constantly stopping to admire the surroundings in RE5, and they look good whether I'm running for my life or just taking a breath.

Gears does get big, but playing the courtyard on KZ 2 gets big and the details are beautiful. Not taking anything away from Gears which i had a blast playing .

As much as I would love to be able to move around with my gun and knife out and aimed, I still love the game. I mean it wouldn't be an RE game without wacky controls. Even though we got spoiled with a lot of games before this game out, all you have to do is get used to the re4 controls again, then you will remember how awesome re4 was, then you will realize how awesome re5 is.

6.3 - How much did it sell on gamecube when it launched?
I don't think this comparison is good. First of all, RE4 on PS2 was inferior to the gamecube version, second it was launched long after the hype died. Take Lost Planet 2 and Bioshock, for example. These games failed to make as much impact on PS3 as they did on 360 because they launched about a year later.

It's still impressive that RE5 is selling a lot in spite of the fact that it is merely RE4 in HD and not even a horror game.
