1 - why would sony put blu-ray in ps4
they pretty much mortgage their entertainment division to bring blu-ray to the masses. so no probably not.

:) edit: youre probabaly right im at work and dont have alot of time.
still they put alot into blu-ray just to drop it after one gen.

it is very likely and if you listen to the podcast; it has alot of factual info on why its a good possibility that the ps4 will use blu-ray. one, because sony put massive amounts of money and hard work into it and getting it to blow up, their not just going to forget about it (example: HDDVD is still a media device Toshiba didn't forget about it it is still in the works and can be use for other things other than games). two, the 400gb disc are in prototype, meaning the devs will not run our of space next gen. three, blu-ray can be tweaked and upgraded as in making it faster ie. larger disc space and improved laser. four, its basically future proof looking at all of the above and with all the money sony put inot it it can last as long as they want it to (do you really think they are going to come out with a new format so soon?) please...

3 - NO! their going to go back to DVD format and bail out on Blu-ray completely!! (duhhh..)
What a stupid question.... Like as if Sony will go back to a primitive DVD format after spending millions on the successful hi-def blu-ray disc.
besides, I'm pretty sure that blu-ray will be way cheaper to produce by the time the PS4 comes out, while dvd format will fade out like vhs.

that wasn't the argument,the debate is about sony either going with a NEW format or sticking with blu-ray. some people are convinced that sony might come out with a new format, i doubt it though.

Though would there be a need for Sony to go to a new format? I mean how big is the current Blu ray that some have produced, wasn't it roughly 160 GB or something like that? The only reason I would see Sony maybe doing something new for the PS4 is perhaps faster loading times even with the amount of data located on the disc, so where install times may not be necessary at all. I really don't know, but hopefully it will be something along those lines a disc that could be the size of blu ray or bigger but with a faster reader if at all possible.

yea i personally dont think ps4 will have a new format. they can "tweak" the current format (blu-ray) and make it even more future proof for next gen.

Yeah there really isn't much that is left for Sony to do except make a faster reader I suppose, being that bluray can already handle quite a bit of data. Other than that overall aesthetics are probably going to be the main priority of the PS4 (Inner and outer). The only thing that I wonder about right now is whether the PS4 is going to be bigger than the PS3 or not.

lol, like the size? i hope its not to big, but with the tech the ps3 has got all they need to do is upgrade it. next gen i believe we will be needing more disc space and possibly another upgrade to blu-ray would be the audio support, ad also the quicker laser read speed. one dude on the podcast feels that we would need 200GB of disc space next generation for games.

7 - COMPETITION NEEDS TO CATCH UP TO BLU-RAY FIRST....
I highly dought that Sony will create a new format for the PS4 since the majority of video games these days barley take up even half the blu-ray space, not to mention the fact that most games being multi-platform needs too accommodate the limited 360 space and all. A new and larger format is not going to happened because the other consoles need to catch up to blu-ray first.

As you all may notice, Sony is ahead of their game... Maybe to much ahead and that in a way is good, but not great since we all know that most developers are not going all out due to the 360 drawback...
So why not let the competition get on equal ground first and then expand from there.
