Reviews Are Not Bibles

Unfortunately, I think I'm stuck at 5. No matter how many bubbles people give me, my count never goes up.

I'll never create another account, though. I like this name too much to lose it over a stupid comment limitation system. Thanks for your generosity though! Have some bubbles back on my behalf. :)

I'm the same way. I talk a lot of smack too but I wont create another account. Maybe peeps just like my Avatar =P

Edit: On topic I feel reviews are vital for many reasons. If I asked people on here what they thought about X,Y or Z exclusive title for a console it would be a sound YAY or NAY for the most part. Very little inbetween... Some people who live in the BFI (Bum FVK Idaho) for example may not have the luxury of going to a buddies house and trying it out... For example Viking got horrible reviews but I enjoyed it for some reason... Not sure why but I liked it. I also liked Lair... Most hated that game as well... Reviews are a catch 22 in that reviewers get to play the game for free. Basically I feel review sites should make scores as 55/65 dollars... As in how much they think it's worth. So if a game like LBP or Fable comes out and the reviewers thinks it's worth 85/65$ then they can be justified and not having given it a "Perfect" because I know so many people hate perfect scores... They could be saying the game gives you more then you hoped for and would even be worth paying more for... Still though money is different for everyone as well. Depending on the job/s you have 65$ could be a lot or a little... So I like that system honestly...

"Funny, then, that a huge portions of industry professionals read and subscribe to Edge. They aren't there to serve the typical gamer: i.e, all you kids here who are held in complete contempt by the industry itself. "

Huge? lol. Yeah, you must think developers make the bulk of the money for Edge even after their games get unfairly slammed. "Typical Video gamers" be damned, because after all, Edge is a magazine that could sustain itself if they wanted with only 5000 sales a month (at best?) from developers that want to see their games be criticized by a bunch of journalists (at best) that are not even remotely related with game development (because if they were, they wouldn't have a job typing for edge and instead would be typing code).

"Edge" writting for a few industry professionals and not the bulk of their readers is the biggest joke I've ever heard, you're funny man, keep up the good work. Even if that's true, then that is more of a problem than something they should be proud off to them as they can't even be taken seriously anymore. By being outliers on most reviews the only message they are sending out there is that they are not very reliable.

Agreed, calling any religion worthless just shows your own conceit and the fact that you are unable to accept anyone different from yourself. Everyone should be entitled to their own religion without scrutiny.

everyone should be entitled to their own religion, beliefs, opinion. So tell me then, why are you and everyone else attacking him for his? That's the problem with christians, no respect for someone else's beliefs. Nobody said you had to like it. It just shows the fact that YOU cannot accept anyone different from yourself.

Interesting thought Kratos, I have friends of many different faiths and I respect them all. I agree that he is entitled to his own opinion, but to say that the bible is worthless seems inflammatory. I did not attack him, I simply stated that he should be more tolerant of other faiths. I respect your beliefs and those of everyone else; however, I expect that same of others, in fact there was no necessity for any comments concerning religion here which is why as the reaper stated, he should not have posted a comment of that nature.

@Son of Odin: "in my xp people who feel the need to put down other people's belief's are more ignorant than even religious fanatics themselves."

in my xp you don't have much xp if you think that way. In life there are only 2 simple rules. You take it or you don't take it to then assume the responsibility of that action. There's no more to it and this is called decisions.

When you don't like something you need to put some thinking into it about why you didn't like that something. When you express it bad or good this are your beliefs and there's no other way to show it.

Example: I don't like the X360 because is a piece of crap that doesn't have the games I want nor the reliability a product should had.

That's my thinking but other people could read it and say that I'm lying because the x360 has games and accused me of being a fanboy. Here's where he's downplaying my beliefs with his beliefs but that doesn't make his beliefs more or less valid than mine because everybody is different and put things the way they think them.

We're both putting down our beliefs with one opinion against the other because neither of us are Gods so we both are ignorant no matter what.

But I think your point is that everybody should know how to behave/respect maybe?

BTW the comment got deleted at the end... This is sad, simply sad.
There's no respect for other opinions, religion always wins because people feels scare of it.

If I say that the Bibles is simply a collection of fantasy stories, my comment would be deleted too? You can learn from this kind of stories too. Maybe that's the way God try to teach us the way we should live or how things are because we wouldn't understand the real explanation. There are things like "infinity" that we never would understand even if God himself tried to explain it to us; meaning that we can't take anything literally just because is in the Bibble because nothing is proved, everything are just beliefs.

Decide for yourself. There are also multiple places you can rent games from. I dont take too much from a review. If I want to buy a game I buy a game period. Have I been burned before................OF COURSE.

Have I found a game to be good even though reviews have called something garbage..............OF COURSE. It comes with being human and having different tastes.

8.1 - The answer is fanboys
Only fanboys take reviews to heart. Most sensible people only use reviews as a general guideline, and actually try things for themselves before they make a final decision. You can only weigh the words of someone's OPINION so much before you have to interject with your own sensible decision making.

Though it does slightly annoy me when a good game gets a much lower score than the average, I generally don't care about scores too much. I read the text and get an idea what a game is about. Some of my favorite games have been iffy on scores, such as Army of Two.

There's always the option to rent games. Most people I know have a Blockbuster or similar outlet nearby. Heck, back in the days of the PSone, or to an extent, the PS2, I didn't have much money at all to buy games because I was living at home, jobless. I had to rent most of my games, and buy magazines with demo discs to see which titles I really thought were worth purchasing.

This article is old news. Reviews went south for me around the kick off of this generation in gaming (PS3, 360 , Wii) or as some call it "Next-Gen". It was this Gen for the first time I saw game sites , invidual blogs etc. use something as important as a game review to spread their spite and hate towards an unfavored console. Yes folks I am talking about the early and every now and again totally bogus reviews the PS3 has recieved. Lets face it ..its really not a mystery. Sony is deff the "underdog" this Gen... and reviews were used tons of time to slander it out to be much worst than it was. Sure multiplat games didn't BLOW PEOPLE AWAY on PS3.. but when a game looks identical and the PS3 version gets a 8.1 and the 360 version gets a 8.7 and u cannot spot an honest difference with the naked eye.. that is what made me realize reviews where no longer to be trusted. It was the unruly early rating on PS3 titles that made me realize... something isn't right here...ohhh that and perfect 10's for GTA4 and Halo 3...8's for Uncharted? /.... reviews are not to be trusted for the sole reason in any purchase. Try the game out... play a demo , rent it if u have to. Do not trust shady reviewers... this Gen of gaming and this vicious console war and extensive hate against sony has corrupted the video game rating systems. Its getting better but its not what it used to be!!!

"Take Socom for example on the PS3... it got bad reviews but many of you PS3 fans love it... but look at the sales... the game sold poorly..."

You realise the game hasn't even been released in Europe yet right?

Also, how are review scores in any way related to how many copies a game sells? Most reviews are out there prior to release or VERY early in a game's life at retail.

Where do you pull this stuff from?

Rhetorical question btw, I already know the answer.

Conclusion, reviews are virtually worthless.

lol what?

The problems that people (review sites) had with the game (socom) and why it scored poorly was because of the network problems it suffered, along with some of the promised features not being implemented at release.

Have you even read any of the reviews? Most of them had positive things to say about the actual gameplay when the servers weren't running like crap. Those have apparently been fixed now and some sites even re-reviewed the game and gave it a better score.

I'm not a socom fan btw, I've never played any of the games and frankly don't plan to but your logic on this is flawed. Not wrong, just flawed. It cannot be applied in every case. Reviews are just 1 man's opinion and nothing more, even if 100 review sites agree that is still only 100 opinions from a potential of millions.

Edge rate Resistance 2 as a 6/10 but you bet your ass there will be a few million people that disagree.

Here's another example, people would have you believe LBP has sold like crap yet it received rave reviews and scores across the board.

I have a good feeling that the sales of Resistance 2 will debunk that 6/10 score it got from one site too by the way.

Sorry but your point about sales justifying review scores is flawed.

Sales figures of a game and review scores will have some correlation at times (Halo/Gears will score well and sell better) but there are others, like the example of Edge/R2 and the review scores of LBP vs it's alleged poor sales performance just go to prove that reviews are not gospel.

Note I'm not saying LBP didn't deserve it's rave reviews, in this man's opinion it did but hopefully others will see I'm just trying to get a point across. I think it's done well for a new IP/genre so far.

so by your logic, sales directly correlate to scores? think of your favorite cd in the whole world. now i'm willing to bet that Hannah Montana's last cd sold way more than your current favorite (unless your fav is Hanna Montana) does that make it a better cd? by your logic it does.

By Bladestar's logic, Britney Spears music must be better than Mozart, Bach and Beethoven combined. Also, the opinion of Carson Daly and other self-appointed "music experts" is or should be more important for your purchasing decisions than your own opinion. And of course, those opinions are unquestionable facts of life.

Logic is useless when dealing with Bladestar. Don't waste your time with her.

I'd rather trust reviews than word of mouth. A lot of players overlook such things as AI, screen tearing, and repetitive gameplay. When I read a review, they usually discuss these things. I won't buy a game that doesn't get good reviews.
