Neocrisis: Black Friday Kills, literally

Neocrisis: A little less than 24 hours ago, a Walmart employee was killed at a Walmart in Long Island, New York. The employee was a 34 year clerk. He was stampeded to death at 5am yesterday.
Updates:
It is currently unconfirmed weather the baby died or not. Some people tell us it died, while others say its alive. We just do not know who is correct.

From NY Post: The chaos that led to a rampaging mob storming a Long Island Wal-Mart - and trampling a worker to death - erupted just after a pair of police cruisers pulled from the parking lot, witnesses said yesterday.

"Once they left, it started getting rowdy," said Jason Ortiz, 32, who came from East Flatbush in Brooklyn to get an early jump on post-Thanksgiving Day shopping. "The crowd got restless."

That is bad. Everybody's obsession to get a deal can be pretty sad at times. Trampling a guy just to save a few bucks. Best wishes to his family, of course chances are they'll never read this.

Only in the good old USA. People get so stupid over saving a few dollars, its ridiculous. If I was the manager of a department store I wouldn't want a "rioting" crowd crashing through the doors causing mayhem all throughout the store like that. People fight over cabbage patch dolls and tickle me elmos.......so stupid.

Its like watching people fight over food rations in Somolia. Like a bunch of animals.

1.7 - it is sad to see some one die like this
but what saddens me more is that this killing is not a big deal to me u know why? because i hear entire families die, women die, pregnant women, women get raped, women lose all their supporters and sometime have to become prostitute just to save their lifes and their children, young teenage girls get raped/killed/sold, old men die, young men die, children die most of the death r from bombing coming from the sky or combing coming from the ground or just being in a place at a bad time! i just met iraqi boy around 18 and he lived in Baghdad and he told me once he was going to the shop to buy some food and on the way he passed by his friends house and few minutes the shop he was going to exploded, if he didnt go to his friend he was a goner!!

all killing with not right reason is bad, and all the people should feel sorry for any killings of innocent even if its not from their country!!

http://www.muslimnews.co.uk...

http://www.projectcensored....

there is really something wrong with this world right now! something must have went wrong long time ago and the past 100 years we r seeing the results!!!

since when there was mass genocides? since when people with different believes started to to do mass genocides on others??
why there is genocides in afrika?in asia? in europe? in america? since when all these killings started? i know that in long history such things happened but it happened very rare, much rare then the last and this century!!

but i think i have the answer to this, it is because of the companies/countries that have trillions of dollars, and i am pointing at the west and firstly america!! america is the leader of the world why they dont stop these things? why even r they contributing with the genocides? did the Babylons/ancient egyp/rome empire/muslims/except with the mongolians(they did one genocide in beghdad and killed 1 million at that time) did what the west r doing now?

the west r the ones leading the world now! and just look at whats happening to the world!! i think atheism and capitalism and Zionism is behind all these genocides!!

to those who disagree please share ur thought with me.

@Wile: I think he was referring to the "kills, literally" part of the title because "kills" can be used to describe really high sales too. I think everyone here can agree that what happened is terrible and sad.

However, if you want to be really upset about someone being inappropriate, go read the first forum post on the actual article. Talk about disrespectful.

@The Killer: I respect that you're trying to bring some thoughtful political discussion into these forums, but your arguments come perilously close to simple propaganda. I mean, "i think atheism and capitalism and Zionism is behind all these genocides!!" Maybe look those things up before you go throwing them around. If you still think they're the reason for genocide in the world, then at least have some detailed arguments to back yourself up.

There's a lot of reasons that people die. This particular article is to recognize the guy that was killed by mob mentality at this particular Walmart. We all know that there's a lot of wrongs in the world, but please don't bring politics to an article that's merely trying to recognize one, single man.

Makes me sick, these people will know who they are and I hope they dont get a good nights sleep again knowing that they contributed to the death of a human being for a discount on a digital camera.

You couldn't really prosecute or even arrest anyone mostly because it wasn't a single person and you would have a tough time proving who stepped on him and who didn't not to mention which one actually killed him.

In the end though God will sort everything out but I don't want them to go to hell for it. Christ forgives, so can we.

There are very few things that piss me off in this world, but one of them has always been people. I'm sorry, but people make me sick. It's just ridiculous how stupid, pathetic and selfish we can be as human beings that they would bum rush a store to save some money and kill a man in the process. Even worse, is that the irony of "saving money" in this situation is that most people are buying crap that they never would have even bought if it wasn't on sale. So, in essence, they aren't saving money at all because they are spending it on other useless crap. How retarded can people be?

There's also a little more to this story that I don't think Neocrisis talked about. Wal-Mart announced that everyone had to leave because a man died and it was getting too hectic. You know what the people turned around and did? They whined about how long they had waited in line. Yep, that's right. No, they didn't care that THEY ALL just aided in killing someone and almost killed a pregnant lady with her baby and probably countless others. They didn't apologize for breaking the doors down of the store. They weren't sorry they killed him at all. They were mad that they spent all night waiting in line.

I think it will be hard to find the customers liable, although they should be......but Walmart is definitely looking at a multi-lillion dollar lawsuit. They should have it organized it better by handing out ticket numbers on line in the morning and let customers in a little at a time in order.

is that to die people were actually STEPPING on him. He surely wasn't so big you could run past him or something they actually stood on his body and probably face... This seems to only happen in America it would never happen where I live what is it that makes their crowd different? Why are they so determined for a couple of bucks off? I never go near big crowds I'm more likely to wait til they leave but I really feel terrible that this kind of thing can happen in this world and I think walmart should be fined for leaving it to their workers to control the crowd, instead of hiring some police. They put too much to handle on the workers shoulders and from what I read overworking isn't uncommon in walmart. Now his children will have their Christmas without their father, and the crowd moans that they had to wait in line . Poor crowd you might need to wait in line again while his children will never see him again

11 - There should've been a lockdown
They should've locked the store down, made everyone of those pricks give up their items, take down their names and addresses, and start in with mobile holding stations.

This is why that at almost all costs I avoid Wal-mart like the plague. Most people that shop there regularly are the bottom feeders of our society, keep in mind I said MOST, so don't get your panties in a wad over it if you went there yesterday or something.

people are monsters, plain and simple. Your average human being has about as much concern for their fellow man as a missle has for it's target. People, almost on a worldwide scale, are scum, especially in animalistic packs such as the ones that line up in front of a store and are willing to forego all sense of decency so they can buy a $400 flat screen. This is the TRUE nature of most of the inhabitants of our society, I'm afraid.

Congratulations, some kid is gonna have his first Christmas without his father because you needed to save a few bucks at Wal-Mart, Now, please do the human race a favor and remove yourself with extreme prejudice.

good job presenting the problem, how bout a solution? start up a mass suicide cult that would fix the problem quick and easy. the problem isn't just humans, it is that they are hypocrits. they say one thing and do another and never really have an affiliation to any thing or form of thinking. its good that you can see the problems in others but what have you done to fix them in yourself? Think long and hard and you'll figure out that greed, lust, etc drive mankind because life currently isn't all fun and games, it is survival of the fittest. Our animal instincts possess us and drive us to act in our own favor. How can we lead away from those primal instincts that are seemingly more and more misplaced in our "civilized" society? well there are institutions like the church which if you think about it could be seen as a guide to transcending our current flaws and evolving into a more refined human. yet, more and more people nowadays distrust religion and hate anything that refrains them from doing or seeing what they want, i.e. violence in video games, porn, drugs, because the lure of these primal instincts is too great for most. but also having ultimate bliss on earth where all humans are goody two shoes to each other isn't acceptable by earth standards because there would be overpopulation and scarcity of resources. so where do we draw the line on hating human behavior?
Shut this user up Let user speak
Fanboy Slaughter - 404 days 18 hours ago

Trust me, I don't think you or anyone else would like the solutions some of us have in mind. We've tried, as a collective, to improve upon ourselves and each other. Quite frankly, playing video games throughout the years has helped make me the person I am today.

Playing games as a kid, always the hero, saving the day, and all that junk, helped me as a child develop a sense of right and wrong, with a good heap of help from my parents, who were both strict yet reasonable at the same time. They always knew where to draw the line, and upheld it when it came time for me to toe the line.

Granted, I know all of humanity's problems aren't black and white, nor are they divided by a fine line, however, this is only one of the millions of examples I have seen throughout my life that has made me have nothing but disgust for some people. People being so heartless as to have no regard for the fact that they may have been involved in taking someone's life, only to give a snide remark and go back to their sick objective of mowing down whoever they have to to get their precious TV.

I for one know what it's like to have someone stolen from you like that, a family member of mine was murdered senselessly 5 years ago, so I can relate to what his family is going through right now. Trust me, that family will NEVER, in their entire lives, be the same.

The main problem is that people in large masses tend to regress back into that primal, instinctual drive that makes them act like this, especially when, like you said, they want something...more or less...survival of the fittest. But this wasn't some life-or-death fight over food, shelter, or family....this was a f**king WAL-MART SALE!!!! This poor guy was just trying to make ends meet for his family, and now they are NEVER going to see him again, and I hope you can see why this outrages some of us who may be a little more empathetic for others.

Believe me. I gave up trying to contribute to the betterment of society as a whole a long time ago. Most of these people out there don't deserve a helping hand, or are in the situation they are because of their own stupidity. I am, however, more than willing to help someone whom I know is capable of helping themselves after a friendly push in the right direction.

But, most people just want heavily discounted crap that their family is just going to fight over when they die.

You are totally correct and I agree. I also feel sorry about your family member, just that the point I was trying to bring up is that it is senseless to bring into the discussion, existentialism if you are not sure what you are basing you bias on. "Know the reasons of something before taking a stand."

Commenting on the actual report though, this does make me sick to my stomach. These kinds of things are somewhat commonplace, i.e. concerts, stadiums, riots, shopping sprees, but to know that the people involved actually had the decency and heart to make those remarks, and to continue shopping after knowing what they caused, that is beyond wrong.

15 - By the way, yes you CAN blame Walmart
Wal-Mart has successfully resisted unionization of its employees. New York State’s largest grocery union, Local 1500 of the United Food and Commercial Workers, called the death of Mr. Damour “avoidable” and demanded investigations.

“Where were the safety barriers?” said Bruce Both, the union president. “Where was security? How did store management not see dangerous numbers of customers barreling down on the store in such an unsafe manner? This is not just tragic; it rises to a level of blatant irresponsibility by Wal-Mart.”

Um, we're talking about PREPARATION - preventing tragedy. Best Buy, for instance, had the same exact 5AM deal, but they had the barricades. They had the preparation. There was no tragedy.

Walmart should have been forced to summon the police *AFTER* the tragedy. There should have been barricades. There should have been security guards and rent-a-cops maintaining order.

There should NEVER have been 2000 people PRESSING ON THE DOORS themselves!

That's true, for the last few black fridays I've been to. My local Best Buy did not have barricade during one year, but the next year it did. Another Best Buy I've to, did not have barricade at all, the entire line was manage by 2-3 Best Buy worker and no cops at all. The rest was left to people acting like people. Sure, there was a$$holes who cut in line, but the line (700+) was able to stay under control with no more than 3 workers and later a total of 8. In store had about another 10 or so later on.

So, I wouldn't blame it entirely on Walmart, the crowd is equally at fault. It's reasons like these people going crazy to save a few dollars, wonder how the human race is still around. We've wipe out so many species from our stupidity already. I also don't believe that everyone is born equal, some are just really all brawn and no brain.

16 - Most Black-Friday shoppers shame America.
I'm American and I find this offensive: I'd punch babies over this. That's how angered I am at the fact that people value saving money over the fact they just killed someone to save like what? $30? Is $30 worth a human life?

It's times like this that I often think that violence is sometimes the answer. People as dense as most rabid Black-Friday shoppers deserve to be beaten to a half an inch of their life and lose both legs because otherwise, they'll never learn the furthest extent of the consequences of ending another person's life, especially over an Xbox 360 bundle, that would have cost about $50 more.

So there, Americans think that human lives are worth $30-$50.
