Ziff Davis CEO Considering Shuttering Print Version Of EGM

Gamasutra writes "Yesterday, publisher Ziff Davis announced it will cease distribution of the paper version of PC Magazine -- but is its lone remaining print magazine, veteran game periodical Electronic Gaming Monthly, far behind?

According to a New York Times report, Ziff Davis CEO Jason Young is not confident in its continued publication, either."

I've been subscribed to EGM for almost two years and recently they've gone downhill. I don't think their biased or they favor a certain console. They've been pretty good in my opinion. After since Tsu was replaced by the milkman it has spiraled downhill. I would not be surprised if it died within the next year.

But then I'll still have Game Informer. :)

I've been reading EMG since I walked into a Max Milk and bought the first copy in the summer of 89. I am thinking it should be done, but it will brake my heart a little.

I am just happy I was able to live in a day where print was one of the only ways to really know what was going on in our beloved industry, when E3 was a special issue I waited for with excitement, and fanboys where ridiculed in the fanmail. Helps me appreciate where we are now, a lot.

God, I hope that was just a well timed joke, Shane. Laughed my ass off, but I wonder if you're serious...

Been a subscriber for about eight years now, and I've seen far too many of my fav editors leave.

3 - Both Magazine and News paper sales have been tanking in the last few years
Some analysts are even predicting come 2012 only 3rd world countries will still be circulating newspapers...

I'm not terribly sad that Ziff media is going through rough times, after all, these are the same guys that own 1up;A site that stealth edits reviews and has only 1 Ps3 supporter on staff

I'd hate to see EGM magazine go because I've been a subscriber of the magazine for about 2 years.

If EGM ceases print production, then I guess it'll be just Playstation: The Official Magazine for me...maybe I'll give GameInformer magazine a try if EGM magazine ceases production.

A lot of people get their gaming news and reviews Online, so I guess there's not as much of a demand for the print gaming magazines like it used to be, but it's nice to have a Gaming Mag. with you to read when you're traveling or on vacation.

This is REALLY bad news! I also have a 2 year subsciption, and would hate, even though I get the magazine 2-3 weeks late, since I live in Europe, it still has some amazing articles! And I know they would go to the site instead, but the print-edition has it's own charm!

5 - It is
a sign of the times, and frankly, not a bad move. My only concern is that EGM online, when (not if) it goes that way will be lost under 1Up.com. It's already pretty much the same thing. Either the 1Up brand needs to be discontinued or EGM does. Both on the same website makes no sense.
