Yup.

I find a fallacy in the argument. How many people played tetris than graduated? How many women play the Sims then graduated to hardcore?

I have defended the Wii on many many occasions with that logic. I hope that it's true.
By bringing people who previously would never consider playing games at all into the fold, the opportunity is there for them to want to "grow" as a gamer and try out more genres/types of games.
I think his concept is good, however it's flawed in regards to where casual gamers who want to become more hardcore will go. I have a strong feeling that they will not stick with the Wii in most cases, and instead look at PC, 360 & PS3 to truly experience more "hardcore" games.

You're assuming that what he means by hardcore is the same thing you mean by hardcore. Of course I see nothing on the PC,PS3,360 that couldnt be done on Wii or doesnt already have a game of the same genre to represent it. I can only assume that you mean bloody ultra violent games that contain tons of swearing and "mature" themes. That's really the only type of games the Wii lacks in atm, but no shortage of hardcore games. When he talks about hardcore he means gamers like me. Someone who isnt 14 and doesnt think that GTA4,GeoW is the only thing an adult would want to play.
To me the "Hardcore" crowd is the one playing MM9. Not the one playing LKP or CODW@W

Just curious, so you think Gran Turismo could be done on the Wii? or Metal Gear? or even Little Big Planet with it's online features and physics intact?

None of these games are ultraviolent, and I enjoy them.

No one is talking about "swearing" or "mature themes". Hardcore games meaning games that don't resemble carnival games. Hardcore being the term because it requires more thought and skill. It offers a challenge and is obviously made for people who know the controls. The wii DOES have some hardcore titles, the main complaint(from in and out of the wii camp) is not ENOUGH hardcore titles. The hardcore titles that are available though are great. There just needs to be more.

It depends on how Nintendo deals with next year. They already scored casuals with Wii Fit and Animal Crossing.Unloading a game that is both casual and hardcore on them can establish a new larger hardcore Nintendo fanbase.

"Casual" and "hardcore" are such silly terms that only recently gained importance. Why can't we just be gamers? At least back in the days of Nintendo vs SEGA or Nintendo vs Sony, companies would simply argue about who has the best games. Nowadays, companies have stooped to calling the fanbases of other consoles "casual" as if that's an insult.

Everyone -- and I mean EVERYONE -- was once a casual gamer, because a casual gamer is a person who doesn't treat video games as a primary hobby. That's it. It's a very simple definition.

Actually, I've never been a casual gamer. The second I got my nes when I was little I played it nonstop and mastered every game I got from then on. I don't think I've ever been casual.

9 - In theory;
Nintendos next gen console will be 'hardcore' and drop all previous cutesy mascots.

Without the 1-year head start the 360 would have never sold. Without a built-in Blu Ray player the PS3 would have never sold and Blu Ray would have never won.

But the fact remains that all of those things DID happen. Live with it. The Wii sells like hotcakes despite the fact that it hasn't had a price drop (or major drop in sales, for that matter) for the entire 2-year lifespan. That's incredible no matter how you look at it.

Until Nintendo has at least stopped some of the shovelware that growing upon their library their is almost (Key word almost) no saving grace for the Wii. I have one, rarely turn it on as my PS3 gets the most play time I am simply bidding my time until Monster Hunter Tri~ comes out. If Miyamoto really thinks the "casual" groups will evolve they must not be taking a look at the games that are coming out at this time, granted their are some good ones out no (no more heroes, zack and Wiki I suppose) but all the good games are few and far in between as they can easily be overlooked because of the rampant number of 3rd party-party or shall I say "Kiddie~esque" games.

Will the casual graduate to hardcore? Perhaps, but at this rate something of graduation for this demo graph will take some time at least until some of the games are ramped up and we stop receiving games that are all about flailing arms and such (Talking specifically about the High school musical game I just saw as well as a bit of Wii Music).

Why should they stop it??? Seriously why? It helped the PS1,PS2 to be number one in their gens... Why do you want to act like it is a bad thing now? Why is it ok for one console to have casual games but not another? The only difference is the company name... Why is LBP ok but Wii sports not? Why was it ok for Postman Pat,Power Rangers, and hundreds of other shovel ware titles ok on PS2 but its the end of gaming for it to be on the Wii? For once I would love for one of you kids going around making it sound so horrible to explain why it didnt bother just 2 years ago or more when it was on the PS2?

I would not count Power Rangers as shovelware, but all though I do see it as bad in a sense I say have a "Control" over it in a way until some other titles come out. Within the PS2s library you can seperate/sift through some of the ones that are shovel all the way to the desirable, not so easily do-able on the Wii. Also I say this now because of what Miyamoto said "Graduate from Casual to hardcore" will if one is to do this and well if these alleged "Hardcore" people dislike the Wii for what it is now, will that mean that they will dislike it once they become hardcore and finally take a look at what games they are offered to play on their console of choice?

Also to answer the question about why it bothers is probably because of what I have stated in the previous paragraph above, you can sift through the good to the bad. I think why people dislike it is because of port after port after port. Many with just a waggle and a wiggle tacked on and not much else, or perhaps they just don't like the Wii for what it is? Just for clarification as well Shovelware does not always equal casual in my opinion. Though my post was more or less just a critique to what Miyamoto has stated and what has been seen about the various websites and what people have screamed for and wanted. Some type of control or strangle hold on what is happening now.

"Casual Gaming"- Is all marketing. Has nothing to do with gaming at all. It's for people intimidated by games. So it's just an easy entry way for people to become, wait for it...Gamers!

"Hardcore Gaming"- Is all marketing. You stuck with video games for a long time, know what type of games you like and don't mind spending money. Your still, wait for it...Gamers!

I know people who have Nintendo Wii's and they all are into gaming more. When your email from friends is filled with "Did you see this new game I downloaded on my blackberry" You are a gamer. Then there are people I know who are hardcore casual gamers. Yeah believe that one...At the end of the day they are, wait for it...Gamers!

Be a gamer...Not a hater

You are right but the Wii is still lacking. I wanted to buy one but just realized that there was nothing on it that I wanted. Resident Evil 4 and Okami are excelent but they are available on the PS2. Sadness may never see the light of day and I have my doubts about its final quality. Cursed mountain looks great but I have no idea how good (or bad) it will be. I guess that Nanokuni will be the only know quantity of the bunch (and excelent at that).

So, 250 USD/EU for 3 games (or 2 if Sadness never makes it)? I certainly have no interest in anything else on the Wii. It is severily lacking in interesting games for my tastes (and notice I'm not talking about blood or gore or whatever).

I wanted to have a reason to buy a Wii, but Nintendo aint getting my money this gen.
