IGN: Top 10 Things We Want in a KOTOR MMO

While it hasn't been officially announced yet, there's wide speculation that BioWare, the famed developer of many single-player role-playing games, is working on a massively multiplayer online role-playing game based on the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic universe. EA CEO John Riccitello confirmed as much at E3, but there have also been no shortage of whispers and rumors prior to that.

If you're not familiar with the KOTOR universe, it's set thousands of years before the events seen in the Star Wars movies. This is basically the ancient history of Star Wars, but it still features Jedi Knights, Sith Lords, and lightsabers.

IGN is huge fans of the first two KOTOR games, which were single-player role-playing games. So they decided to put together a list of the 10 things that they would like to see in a KOTOR MMO.

1 - Pretty good list.
One thing I want for sure is to make sure that if you have jedi, that lightsabers only become available at about 10 lvls from cap, and are hard to come by.

And since I hope the game holds somewhat true to the other kotor games, I think that only at the level cap can you find crystals for your lightsabre that actually makes it play to your clases, like a specific crystal is better at reflecting damage for tanks, another for dealing damage, bolstering your jedi powers etc.

I actually hope they don't make a KOTOR MMORPG, at least not instead of a real KOTOR sequel/prequel. It really would have to be a single player game, with possibly some multi player elements like coop, to be KOTOR.

MMORPGs can be good games (if one looks beyond the many wasted hours on grinding and other pointless stuff), but they don't exactly do wonders storyline wise. If you look at World of Warcraft, the Warcraft lore is there and everything, but it doesn't really tell a good story, at least not compared to Warcraft 3's much more epic feel, even if that is a strategy game. Trying to match a Bioware quality RPG's story won't exactly be easier, and frankly, with EA pulling some strings now... I'm a bit scared.

The Kotor games were very story heavey and looked ok, but they never had a good cinematic quality and were not very exciting. I love Star Wars, but Kotor, for me, is kind of boring. I still consider the Dark Forces series to be the best Star Wars games franchise.

I'd like to see a more up to date Star Wars MMO, but I'm almost certain it will fail in the end. Star Wars MMO's don't work for one reason. Every one wants to be a Jedi, but everyone shouldn't be a Jedi.
