"A few days ago, a long time friend of mine called me to let me know that he may have some positive video game related news for me, and I said 'ok shoot.'
He told me that his brother had gotten his COD4 disk stuck in his recently purchased PS3, and that the system would not eject it. So he decided to give a ring to Sony's customer service line. He explained the situation to a supervisor and was told that it would all be taken care of immediately. What Sony did next was pretty amazing."

Every once in a while it just shuts off or completely freezes. So I called them up and they told me to reformat my hard drive. HA! And erase all the stuff I got on there? Heck that! I'm gonna have to wait and get an external hard drive to back everything up. lol Maybe they'll send me one.

I re formatted my hard drive once, I didnt lose anything the only thing it did was change the dates on my videos so it seemed I had downloaded them all on the day i re-formatted.

Well, if I did reformat my hard drive, and I got a different outcome, then I would disagree. It's just my way of saying Agree / Disagree and Same experience / Not same experience. I know it's not exactly how it's supposed to be, but I don't always want to waste a bubble saying "That didn't happen to me." Much easier and convenient to hit Disagree. Not saying that that's the case all the time with random disagrees, just my little take on the system.

This is nice, But this could easily be a lie or some gimmick to get people to read their website. I love my PS3 but i just can't see this happening. The guy didn't even mention what he did with his broken PS3. I just need proof.

2 Days. TWO days. No one caught this? Hell even Rock Band couldn't match this 2 days when their guitars came out like broken plastic rods it took up to 3 weeks to get one back, and lets not even begin with Microsoft, they're still at 1 week for returns.

Bob Dole's original PS3 quit reading BluRays and it took them 7 days to send a replacement. His room mate waited like a month for his Xbox (that didn't even RRoD, wouldn't display a picture or something). and got it back while he was out of town. Luckily Bob Dole was there to play it on day 1!

Whenever you format your hardrive, you looses all information on it, (which would include save games as well). That's what formatting a hard drive is all about, to start from scratch. However for the PS3, the operative system and it's settings is actually saved somewhere else, but pretty much everything else will be erased (videos, games, saves, demos, game installs etc).
That's why I disagreed. I find your statement to be untrue, and I do not want other people to believe you as you might know yourself, loosing save games (and other data) is a bi***. My disagrees are in actuality my way of saying "I do not support your statement".
Oh and btw, I've formatted my PS3 hard drive before and it happened like I stated above (loose everything but the OS and it's settings), except I did a backup so I was able to restore everything back to normal, which I recommend everyone doing despite if you plan to format or not.

Wow, Sony definantly went out of their way for that.
I know one guy that lives in the U.K. said that one time whenever his PS3 stopped reading Blu-ray discs and he gave Sony a call, then someone from Sony came to his house the next day and took his old PS3 and they gave him a brand new one.

But if only MS's good side was publicized more. I had my Zune 80 replaced because of the HDD going bad, and for my being patient with them they gave me one of their Zune Originals with an engraving of my choice.
I think it all really just comes down to how polite you are over the phone, and who you're dealing with. I've gotten myself out of $300 phone bills simply by negotiating (and at times flirting) with the service reps. They're all human beings too, and they just want to get their job done and over with for the day. Of course, the good reps will be more willing to help you, so if you come across a bad rep just hang up and call again until you get a good rep.

On the other hand he got a controller which he didn't have and an additional game.
I experienced the same with my PS3. I got a new controller and a new set of cables when the blueray broke. Gotta love good customer service =)

I believe I posted a topic on the forum about this around last year or something. Sony's customer service is AMAZING.
My friend's Bluray drive on his ps3 failed..so they sent him a new one..and a coupon for 5 games off of PSN.
I bought one of their mp3 players and the headphones broke (my fault) but regardless they sent me a brand new pair (and these are 80 dollar headphones not the 5 dollar ones most mp3 players come with).
Sony definitely has something going for them on the customer service front and reliability.
My friend bought some expensive sony headphones from Best Buy ($100+)with a 3 year warranty. He accidently messed them up..and best buy wouldn't replace them so he went to the sony store. The employee from the sony store..WENT WITH HIM to best buy and MADE THEM replace the headphones.

- send PS3's back in bad wrapping/boxes. They got back damaged
- got back, only worked for a week, broken again needed to send it in
- sended in launch PS3's with PS2 BC, got back a PS3 without BC

I think the guy has a point as well as this is not really news. This is one guy being treated well. It happens all the time with large companies and is largely dependent on who you speak to and how generous the person is.

Just shows that some people don't want to hear it. This is a positive article praising PS3 and when there is one tiny voice of contradiction, it is drowned out by the majority. Of course the majority of the posts here will be by PS3 supporters, so what much did MART hope for?
Nothing...he just had a point to bring up. And when we hear good things about the X360, the same thing will happen. Except with much more emphasis on the Sony side trying drown out X360 supporters praise.

I don't know....If mine would die, I already have MGS4 and RaC and two dual shock, and I use the card reader a lot and the BC once in a while...I wouldn't look that sweet of a deal for me......

Sony has the best customer service and i've experienced this.
M$ is worse, i tried to cancel my subscribtion to xbox live but all they did is thru persuasion. after dozen of "no, cancel etc etc" They finally freed me.

Yeah Sony FTW! I never had my PS3 repaired/replaced ever - extremely reliable hardware...
However I had a Sony VAIO, once and the sound jack wouldn't work...so they sent one of their tech support GUYS TO MY house, open my notebook and exchange me a BRAND new motherboard in like 5 minutes (o_O).
ROFL, what does Crapbox360 DO? RROD...you got to package yourself, drop it off at the Post office ...wait...wait...wait...then they mail your old crapbox360 back with just the hardware fix...which now is MORE prone to another RROD...
If you get one RROD, expect 3-4 more in the life-time...
DO YOU KNOW why SONY can afford to send A WHOLE NEW SYSTEM? BECAUSE THESE CRAPS RARELY HAPPEN, <1%

I love PS3 customer service. When I had a small bit of problems getting online, I called and the lady was extremely nice. Not all customer service is amazing but Sony has good service. :3

You know what would be awesome.. What if Sony could do online system checks.. Kinda like how Cars have On Star and they can scan your car.. Sony should have a service like that.. Like this guy(Even tho he got a phenom deal) but like Ok your disk is stuck.. Call Sony they link up to your PS3, Over ride some stuff and eject it.. Then do a system check to see whats wrong.. IF its not fixable.. You send it in.. If it is fixable they do Fixes via online..

i called Sony to replace my system (corrupted HDD, sigh, stealth killed by corrupted MGS4 installation)
and to my surprise they said they'll have a courier bring me a new one in 2 DAYS!!!!!!!- that's insanely good
i don't even have to package and send anything!!
i never knew Sony made it so easy

same happened to me except my bluray drive burnt out
:( and it was the week b4 gta.They had me a new one within 2 days (but that one didn't work >:( ) so they shipped me out a 3rd and got it teh next day

11 - Sony PS3 Customer service FTW! Agreed
I called Sony once when i was gettin a install error after i acidentally canceled an install. Then Warhawk wouldn' start and no other game would install.
They guy i spoke to was pretty nice he tried to help me without me havin to format my HDD but in the end that's what i had to do. He said sorry and all for me havin to format. I got a kick out of tellin him i was callin from Jamaica.
He went"Ahhh really, wow!" Yeah that made me laugh.

Dude thats F****** awesome but i never heard MS has bad service 2 of my friends have 360 1 elite and 1 premium the guy with the premium is on his 5 crapbox360 and my friend who had the elite is on his 2 and everything was free... so it cant be that bad oh yea im in my first ps3=p!!

The PS2 failure rate was NOTHING compared to the 360's failure rate. My uncle has the very first PS2 and it still works well.
Sony's customer service is still relatively good.
Just because you had a bit of bad luck, doesn't mean you should cuss Sony's service to oblivion.
