He had it coming. I am amazed by people that claim to know all about Too Human and know about gaming yet are apparently unaware of the way he went to that forum and attacked Neogaf and then attacked Neogaf in interviews with other publications and sites.

He had it coming a long time ago. How smart can a dev be for attacking his audience.

NeoGAF basically = the biggest online gaming community there is...with just shy of 40,000 members...of which some are industry folk including developers (Denis Dyack included...well, not anymore I guess), Ryan Payton has an account, James Stevenson of Insomniac games, writers from gaming sites like 1UP and many others...

NeoGAF is also home to many company and retail insiders, employees etc who get invited/access to lots of exclusive events/betas/shows that most people dont.

They usually have the most accurate information, before anybody else does and there's none of the console war business (for the most part) due to strict supervision of posts by the mods and things people get away with here on N4G in the open zone (and in the gamer zone sometimes) are easily perma-bannable.

Not to mention you can't just create an account. You have to create a request, and be individually approved (which for me took about 3 weeks) before you can post.

You can however, view posts without having an account.

Could've been handled better without making a fiasco out of it.

Wonder if they make threads for every member they ban, if it was a matter of proving a point, then the thread should've been giving 'n taking between Denny and the Gaffers, but kicking him the hell out and not closing the thread just to add more salt to the wound with over 20 pages of ridicule replies to wipe his dignity infront of the whole community, that is just a low blow and frankly unprofessional.

Yes, he had it coming, but how much is that circus of a thread really is proving his point about it being the worst forum?

Yeah, I've noticed the same thing about Xbox Devs.

Itagaki goes around putting down other games like Okami and Devil May Cry, Cliffy B. said he thought that Resistance 2 falls short, and then Cliffy B. calls MGS4 "passive entertainment", Dyack is a one man hype machine, etc... I do agree that Xbox 360 developers do too much talking though... Playstation developers just let their games speak for themselves.

I think all this has less to do with the game and more to do with the immature reaction and overall additude of Denis Dyack. I mean if the game is not as good as you thought it would be and is getting bad reviews then just own up to it and learn from the experience. Instead he goes on a the air and starts dissing everyone (the very same people who will and has been reviewing his game0 and all it does is makes him look like a douche.

I mean Haze got blasted by the gaming community just as much and to my knowledge the developers took it in stride. I am also quite sure that Free Radical will learn from the experience and step up their game next time.

And my take on it is:

a- I feel bad for the SK team because it sucks to work hard and get poor reviews.
b- I feel bad for Dennis- even tho I don't know him beyond a few emails over the years- because clearly he is a passionate man who is having to deal with two tough situations right now (the mediocre reviews of a game he clearly loves, as well as the situation of being made out to be a bad guy amongst the core fans he is- one assumes- trying to please). He may also be dealing with a third tough situation if the sales of his game are poor.

All that said, my life experience shows that often times, failure is a great thing because it allows you to either learn from mistakes and recommit to your passions OR it allows you to realize that you are not really on the path you need to be on in the first place. So I think, for Dennis, this will end up being a great situation where he's able to reassess what he wants. But again, I don't know him. That's just how I would deal with it.

As for posting here, I still plan on doing it. I still plan on defending myself when someone attacks me without clear reason. But I don't tend to come here to promote our games. I mean, I always answer questions about them and correct people if they have some info on our games that is not correct, but I don't look at Neogaf as a PR tool. I look at it as a place to mingle with fellow fans of games we all love and to meet folks who consider themselves fans of what we do. And I love that. I love neogaf, always have.

As for being more influential, well no offense, but let's not get ahead of ourselves. If TOO HUMAN had been getting 97% scores and selling great, even if Dennis had insulted some of you guys 1000 times worse, it would not matter if you not only banned him but changed the name to NEO-F*CK-YOU-DYACK-GAF (dude, f*ck off, I get PAID to be creative, I ain't giving it away for free!!!! :) ...I mean, but if all that had occurred but the game rocked to many people, this would not make a difference. And frankly it still won't, from a nuts and bolts sales standpoint. Too Human will sell how well it sells based on many things. Dennis being a current 'enemy' of Neogaf is not one of them.

Not to say sites like this- and this one in particular- can NOT be influential but I tend to think the influence of hard core sites like this help bring a more obscure game up into the more semi-hard core consciousness- which in turn- will help sales. I do not see it working in the opposite direction.

But we'll see...just my take.
