No Rare IP is dead suggests developer

Speaking to VideoGamer.com at Develop last week, Rare senior software engineer Nick Burton, an employee at Rare for over 10 years, has revealed that when talking about the studios' owned intellectual property "there's a good chance of seeing any of it again".

"You might see Killer Instinct, you might see Battletoads. Or as I said the other month Killer Instinct meets Battletoads in the GoldenEye universe!" joked Burton.

The titles the Microsoft owned studio is currently working on is something that's constantly debated on internet forums, and speculation isn't helped by Rare's constant teasing. Do you remember the Rare 2007 Christmas card that hinted at a new Killer Instinct? Burton was all too happy to reveal the story behind the card.

"You'll probably have to rephrase this, we're just fu!$ing with you!" he joked. "Have you not noticed a theme in our Christmas cards? We do it every year! It's just sometimes people don't notice it because it's that subtle.

"Ryan (Stevenson, senior concept artist), when he was doing it said, oh I'm putting Killer Instinct in that, I am. The conversation was, put Battletoads in as well! Or Snake Rattle and Roll, come on do it! We have a reputation for teasing. Sometimes we do it for good reasons and other times it upsets people. We're English, we're allowed to!"

Burton wouldn't be drawn on confirming the existence of a new Killer Instinct title, but say that "you could pick anything in our back catalogue and then turn it into something new".

Other than 360 owners, you won't find any support amongf the industry for that anti mgs4 post. sorry but thats the facts jack. Rare has let themselves go. as a guy said in a other post, look how they screwed up a game that could have been greater than goldeneye. They messed up perfect dark zero royally by turning it into a cartoon instead of getting real with it. what a loss.

i want nothing more than for them to get back on the horse and make some great games but i played kameo and i would rathe r listen to the group. word up, k?

and don't forget donkey kong country 2:diddy kong quest,it's the best dk game ever

it's a fact that the company went downhill after star fox adventures(the game wasen't that much)

Killer Instinct was sick. Ultra Combo's and Combo Breakers. We had the arcade game inside a comic book shop. The crowds it got were bigger than any of the Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat arcade games had generated at this local shop before where I grew up.

It was site to behold. Kids, teenagers, and young adults all watching and waiting thier turn.

I had the SNES and gameboy version.

I still remember some of the characters-TJ. Combo, Orchid, Sabrewolf, Spinal, Chief Thunder, Jago, Cinder, Glacius...and from that list I loved Orchid, Thunder, Jago, Spinal, Cinder, and Glacius.

I beat that game so many times on my Gameboy. I used to kick my brother's ass with Jago...^^;

Jago was my favorite. But it was because he had moves that were comparable to Ryu/Ken.

I also liked Orchid because her combos, combo breakers, and Ultra Combo were easy for me.

The arcade version was the shiznit. The SNES version was a disappointment. But only in the sense that it couldn't replicate the arcade experience.

I just hope that Rare does an arcade perfect version of Killer Instinct for XBLA. A new HD graphics Killer Instinct 3 would be bad a$$ too.

I would go NUTZ if they made a new Battletoads game. It would be PERFECT as a 3d Action/Adventure title with 3 player Co op single screen.

Hell, let me dev that game and it would be a huge treat for the fans
