No Dead Rising Wii, why Monster Hunter 3 went to the Wii, Dead Phoenix won't be rising from the ashes

Christian Svensson, Capcom's Sr. Director of Strategic Planning & Research has been providing Nintendo fans with tons of details about the company and possible upcoming details the past few weeks. Today was no exception, as Svensson once again divulged quite a bit of new information. First, some of you may remember Dead Phoenix, a game that Capcom showed off for the GameCube years ago. The game drew many comparisons to Kid Icarus, but eventually, the game slid under the radar and was canned. A good portion of the gaming community hoped for the revival of the game, perhaps by partially remolding the game as we knew it. Unfortunately, it looks like not even this is possible. Said Svensson, "As far as CEI resurrecting it, frankly, we have enough things on our plate at the moment and enough ideas in the pipeline that we don't need to be going back to that well."

Other info from the news post
- Monster Hunter 3 moved to Wii not only because of the high PS3 development costs that we heard about a few months ago
- Dead Rising remake won't be coming to the Wii, nor is there any new details on a new DR game

huge loss to the ps3 library, the sales on hardware alone would have been nothing short of astonishing in Japan,as a ps3 owner sony dropped the ball on that one

1.2 - Thank you.
The PS3 is the only platform that gives development crews more options to how they develope games on the system. Developers, depending on their budgets, can choose to either:

Develope a tiny/small DLable games

Develope Large DLable games w/ the option of blu-ray options

Develope low budget disc games or

Develope high budget disc games

The second option could have been a very viable option if costs were a concern. That's jsut BS talk cause we all know Capcom was/has been lookin got stick it to Sony for some odd reason even when the fanbase suported the hell out of this game.

So PS fanbase helped establish it for you then you turn around and try to use it's popularity to lure away some of the fanbase to a competing console. That's disgusting!

MH3 went to wii so capcom could further convince PS3 owners not to buy anything from them. They want the american market and 360= america, while PS3=europe and japan. And they don't give a crap about europe and japan.

The reason they did it simple. PLaystation is no longer the number 1 brand. You fanboys might as well get use to it, just like Nintendo fanboys had to years ago. This is nothing new and nothing to cry about. All you have to do is buy a console that isnt in last place with no signs of catching up. Also you already bought the most expensive one so price shouldnt be a problem. You had no issue paying 600.00 for a blu ray player. Paying 250 for a gaming console shouldnt be a problem.

For a voice of reason, your comments sure don't belong in the gamer zone. I hate to tell you, but Playstation still is the #1 brand. The PS3 may not be the #1 console in Japan (it's #2) but the overall brand (PS3, PS2, PSP) still dominate sales. The PSP has been dominating the Wii for weeks now. Granted, this will change when (and if) Japanese people who do not already have a Wii (which isn't many) go buy one for MH3.

It really is simple financial reasons. I LOVE monster hunter, but they do not have a large budget for it due to the budget of RE5. It makes sense to put it on the Wii because they can develop it with the engine they used for the PS2 with some upgrades rather than starting from scratch. Will there ever be a MH for PS3? More than likely, but I am not counting my days.

As for Dead Phoenix, of the great Capcom 5, only 2 were any good (RE4 and Viewtiful Joe) so that game didn't stand much of a chance anyway.

*music stop*

edit: MH3 will surely push some/more Wii's(...its outselling alright but you get my point XD)
The amount of DS's sold and the amount Wii's selling.
To your logic shouldn't Wii be number one? if not then rephrase your sentence "please".

How is me straightening out someone else's twisted words twisted myself? The guy above me said Playstation isn't the #1 brand. Between all 3 systems out, it is the #1 BRAND...not system. Would you care for me to compare the number of PSPs, PS2s, and PS3s sold in Japan to how many Wiis and DSs there are? All 3 of those Sony platforms are still supported and sell on a weekly basis. So before you go off accusing people of twisting facts to fit your needs, try to read a statement with an unbiased opinion. My statement sure wasn't biased but based on facts.

3.6 - best tech never equals best game is pretty darn true even when it comes to kojima
If kojima is such a brilliant developer who knows how to make a great game he would be able ot do it regardless of platform. By your thoery Metal gear solid 2 and 3 shoudl have been either on the game cube or the xbox and metal gear solid 1 should have come to the n64 since it had far superior graphical prowess.

Could someone answer my question as to why capcom should put millions of dollars into a ps3 mh3 so that it can make the gamble to see if their software sells systems? Isn't that a risk the console manufacturer has to take either through first party or second party games?

"best tech never equals best game is pretty darn true even when it comes to kojima"

So what your saying the most powerful console (technology wise) will never have any decent games until a more powerful one comes out????

WTF?

Examples:

MGS4
Ocarina Of Time
Halo 1
etc..

see what I'm getting at? By your 'logic' the games I listed above must have been sh*t because they came out on the most powerful console at the time.

What I'm guessing you meant to say is 'just because its built with the most powerful tech doesn't necessarily make it a good game'

No stupid,
He is saying no matter what System Specs they have, a good developer(kojima in this case) can make a great game, no matter what system its on.
He used the PS2 simply because Ps2 was not the strongest Console that gen, yet it received these awesome games.

he was replying to this :
"best tech never equals best game"

Try telling that to Kojima :-) "

Because the best tech out there, that gen, wasn't the PS2( xbox had more power) and Kojima did manage making some awesome games on it.

yeah real typical, PS3 owners insult wii owners, and everyone backs them up, but then a wii owner says something back and everyone goes "that comment belongs in the open zone" why the hell do people allege themselves to consoles anyway, you are morons, to deny that no good games come out on wii or PS3 or 360 or PC is just stupid, don't dismiss a game just because it's on the wii, I buy games to play games, if theres a game I want I get it, I don't just say "well I'm only gonna get a PS3 because I got a PS2 and PS1," well now you're missing out on some great games exclusive to other platforms, go ahead and do that but I'm sick of all the comments with anything wii related "wii sux and has bad graphix 360/PS3 rulez!!!XDXD" more than half the comments here belong in the open zone, real comments about the article aren't "it's stupid it's coming to Wii" why not discuss what the game could be instead of complaining about it.

Dude, I didn't accuse, but tell me how a statement like "The "$600 blu-ray player" statement is so overdue." belongs in comments about Dead Phoenix being redeveloped and Monster Hunter going to Wii? It has NOTHING to do with the story at all. The guy doesn't even say he's a wii owner, I was just giving an example of insults that don't belong. I didn't state that example as truth.I could have said $350 RROD machine, or anything else. They could have easily done a large DLable type game like GTP, Warhawk, Wipeout or SOCOM:con and it wouldn't have been any thing of a great burden.

They just didn't have the gonads for steppin up to the plate on creativity with the series. Keeping on the Wii was playing safe and easy.

It wasn't really a stab in the back, but knowing how many PS3 units this would have sold which makes me confused

On the Square issue, Square changed platforms because they wanted a different medium to use it on, if Nintendo didn't "back stab" Sony and went with Phillips instead of Sony on the CD manufacturing I'm thinking Square would have stayed with Nintendo, the Square issue is totally different than the MH3 issue

Like Capcom said production costs and getting a piece of the Wii pie was the motivation, the only thing is the Wii mote could be a motivational factor yet they didn't specify it in the article so I don't know, so in this case it's increasing profit substantially which is good business, but I am expecting MH4 to be made on the PS3 in the future or a newly built MH3 for the PS3 whenever the units sales gets to where Capcom thinks is satisfactory, which I think right now it's a good time bring a bundled game out, as that will sell a ton in Japan

Honestly if a company says "we will have all the rights to your characters" would you do it ? XD

Its the same thing. They made a huge shift in their decision even knowing where their fanbase was =). The reason behind it is pointless.
They both left a place where money was guaranteed.

People think this is a backstab, but its not these companies do not make big decisions based on emotions.

"Its the same thing. They made a huge shift in their decision even knowing where their fanbase was =). The reason behind it is pointless.

They did make a shift, but it was because cartridges weren't the medium they were looking for if Nintendo did do CD's they wouldn't have switched, so it wasn't the company who really caused the switched but the console maker.

Squaresoft took a huge risk in changing to the PSone, as opposed to Capcom where the Wii is an instant gold mine

" if Nintendo didn't "back stab"
Honestly if a company says "we will have all the rights to your characters" would you do it ?"

The fault was in Nintendo's lawyers in not looking over the contract before the Sony deal was done, so they laid their grave for that era with that mistake

"People think this is a backstab, but its not these companies do not make big decisions based on emotions."

Your preaching to the choir, it all comes down to business, even in pro sports where fans get hooked on one guy but sees him go even though he gave everything for that team, all I am trying to say is the Square issue and Capcom issue are very different

Seems Capcom has failed to realize that Wii is selling so well because it is a fantastic casual gaming machine, hence the new demographic of older people and females buying the machine.

Monster Hunter isn't exactly a casual game. No more heroes was a very good game, but it's sales aren't what you'd call 'astonishing'. I've got a funny feeling that's what's going to happen with the new game 'Mad World' which looks amazing but will be nowhere near the sales of Wii Fit.

I loved Monster Hunter on the PSP (clocked up over 350 hours!!!!) so I'm a little disappointed but will I buy another console to play it? No way.

10 - I'm sorry,
but I have a real hard time believing that the reason for not making a MH3 for the PS3 is cost. Honestly, we're talking about Capcom here. With the income they recieve from the MH series in Japan and along side the Biohazard/RE series, I HIGHLY doubt the reason was the development cost. I'm calling out the BS Capcom has just said.

Yes it does cost near/around the millions, but that shouldn't stop a top selling company like Capcom from doing so. The issue of finding a market for the game is and will be considered MINOR. Sure there's a easy-to-difficult learning curve when it comes to controls, but that can be pushed aside once you get the "hang of it".

Pure BS, Capcom... But will I buy MH3? Yes, because I am a loyal fan of the series. That's the ONLY reason why. Even so, I am disappointed in their decision.

EDIT: I'm not dissing the game, just the company ;)

12 - It was a smart decision to bring Monster Hunter to the Wii.
The PSP version is still the number 1 selling title in Japan, so it makes sense to expand the series over to a Nintendo platform. There's obviously a lot of demand for a PS3 version though, so I'm sure they'll create one in the near future. Right now the majority of their money is going into Resident Evil and Street Fighter.

Sales in Japan
Ps3 : between 2 and 2,5 millions
Wii : More than 6 millions
Ps3 game cost more to produce than Wii.

15 - Its on teh wii cos its sales would whoop that of the ps3
the ps3 wont compete with the wii for game sales this generation.
The wii already has 3x the usebase - more when the game actually realeases, and for a fraction of the cost to develop youve got to be freakin stupid to develop it on the ps3. Its nothing new. If loyalty was all that mattered final fantasy XIII would be realeasing on the wii. Talk of boycots until capcom release a 'proper game' is just fanboyism. Wii owners could just as easily see ps60 games as having last gen control schemes. But hey im glad im not sad enough to think like that cos at the end of the day your just cheating yourself. Expect to hear many more system selling announcements for the wii. They will become more common as the generation gets older.

System selling announcements? You mean Mario Party 25? The Wii doesn't have nor does it need system selling announcements. People buy the Wii because its the Wii. It has gained popularity by the media and word of mouth. There is no stopping it now. What shocking announcements have their been that make anyone want to go out and buy one? Its the PS3 and 360 that will have more system selling annoucements. And last gen control schemes? The Wii has a long way to go before its motion control is anything close to standardized. Most Wii games don't even use it right. There is nothing next gen about it. And a game like FF13 wouldn't come out for Wii. Loyalty has little to do with it. Square Enix likes to push technology, and the Wii offers nothing new in that aspect. They are rich enough from the remakes for DS anyway. Its a shame other companies don't have the money to really push technology, so they are going to make low quality games for the Wii. I can't wait to see what the "core gamer" announcements Nintendo has up its sleeve for this e3. This will be the last year I even watch the Nintendo keynote unless they really do have something good.

I knew that they moved it to Wii because they felt it would sell better from day 1. The whole "too expensive" garbage is just a way out for developers. It is a shame that Monster Hunter 3 is going to Wii as it was one of the games I was looking forward to with good graphics. I just love MH on my PSP. But look at the bright side, at least now there is a chance for a PSP port. :) If you are going to make a core audience type game, you should put it on the 360/PS3. Capcom probably didn't realize this when they made the decision because the Wii was brand new to the market, so its forgivable. Plus the fact that Monster Hunter would sell like hotcakes in Japan no matter what system it was on. I highly doubt it will sell well anywhere else. I will pick it up for my Wii, but I won't be as excited for it.

I don't understand why they think it would sell that much better on the Wii, seeing as how successful MHP2ndG was on the PSP.

Obviously casual gamers wouldn't be interested in it. So only the hardcore gamers would pick it up. Amounting to around the same amount of units sold as it would if it released on the PS3.

Lower costs? Yea right. Like many have stated, they could just make it a downloadable PSN game, or even DVD based game.

I honestly think they're making a big mistake... not in terms of losing money... but in terms of losing possible future profits.

If they had kept it on the PS3, they could make it a full blown MMORPG. The fan base is there to support it already, its not a risk. Going into MMORPG's could open up so many doors for Capcom that I can't even start to imagine.

But once again, game companies have limited vision. They can only see quick profits in the near future, and don't think about building a firm foundation for much bigger future profits.

They are lazy. They don't want to make a fully upgraded Monster Hunter. So they decide to make MH2.5 for the Wii.

But at the end of the day, its kind of a given that Capcom will later make a true Monster Hunter sequel for the PS3.
