Sony Still Quiet on 2.4 Progress

Sony is staying hush on when the pulled PS3 2.4 firmware update may be reinstated for download.

You, like CVG, would probably like to at least have a rough idea of how long it may be before Sony fixes the problem and delivers the goods, but in pestering Sony UK today, CVG was told there was "no further update".

I dont know about anyone else, but I cant play CoD4 online, it freezes my system at the loading game types page, has this happened to anyone else after they have downloaded 2.40? Let me know if it had. This is just another reason to ditch cod4 and play mgso

I've been playing CoD4 normally after the 2.40 patch, maybe you should check who's leeching your broadband or clean the dust of your CoD disk.

I downloaded it when it was live the first time, and it worked until yesterday. Whenever I push the PS button I get the same screen I used to get before getting 2.4. is this happening to everyone?

not to me but... if you press the PS button for 2 sec you get the old menu screen and single click for XMB.

also not all games support it but for me hasn't work inside a lobby or match in MGO but does work outside lobbies.

Good. They shouldn't waste troubleshooting time responding to the million "When's 2.4 gonna be re-released?" questions. Let them do their job, it'll be here soon enough.

Hmm, 4th of July ... in the US, somehow this date rings a bell ... but surely unemployed bloggers have the same working hours the Sony blog team has ...

*yawn*

Like someone else said above, as if asking every hour or so would make it faster ...

Patience. It's an outstanding game and the trophies add more to the gaming experience than I expected. I give Microsoft props. They were right (and oddly enough) brilliant for implementing achievements. Happy gaming boys!

12.5 - way around 2.4 to update SSD
I was having a problem updating my SSD with the 2.4 but found a way around it. When it asks the first time to update hit O to cancel and start the game anyway.

Then once in the game it can be updated. Only way I found to update with 2.4 yet.

13.1 - I will after backing up data
tho I think the problems reported with fw 2.4 are fake, you better play it safe and back up the data or at least saves in her PS3 before installing.

I isntalled the fw in 3 PS3s and all of em are working smooth

will the news of working fw 2.4 when is back out be as many as these intending to flame sony or will more ghosts hiding behind an avatar will report more PS3s bricking so they stop the firmware as long as possible until MS releases something new for XBL or something?

15 - I hope that 2.41 is released soon...
I went ahead and installed 2.4 as soon as I saw it was available, but I'm running into some small but annoying a hell issues with it.

First off, I can't play Metal Gear Online for some reason... The single player campaign of MGS4 works fine, but every time I try to launch MGO my PS3 will just sit there at a black screen. I can bring up the in-game XMB or the traditional PS button menu, but when I try to quit MGO, my PS3 will hard-lock... I have to hit the power switch in the back, then manually turn it back on.

The other issue I'm running into is a really funky microphone issue with CoD4 online. Some people sound fine, others sound REALLY garbled. I'm curious on whether the garbled ones are fellow 2.4 users, or 2.31 users...

Anyone else running into either of these two issues?

it seems that people that work in the gaming media completely forget the fact you can use a flash drive to update your system. 2.4 is still available on the website like you said.

19 - 2.4 still available
My nephew downloaded it the other day and had a lot of problems with it. So he restored his OS last night to the factory settings and when he went to update the system again it updated him to 2.4 not 2.36.

21 - A few things...
1) I've seen the people that have had issues did so with the install, I think (that was the most serious place), so if you got past the install, you'll mostly be fine.
2) Why do I have this suspicion that something is really fishy with all of this? I do know that some installs can be F'ED up with faulty internet connections and people not using common sense. I'm not saying they purposely bricked PS3 because they are on an anti-Sony conspiracy (although that would be one seriously deep, well thought out plan, it's WAY too much of a stretch), but since this was localized (more people than normal, but more localized than what certain people had us believe), Sony should investigate what else was going on at the time they tried to download and/or install the system update on one's system, or if it was just from a crash of the servers from everyone wanting the update.
3) Wait, Bloodmask is trusting CVG with anything? Last time I checked, 3/4ths of the things they reported on got things completely wrong. Why should we believe them now?
Shut this user up Let user speak
Lumbo - 537 days 20 hours ago
21.1 -
The reason for the "semi-bricks" can not be a failed download or partial download, as Sony stated again and again that the firmware updater will only start when the file passes several CRC checks.

Additionally a "broken" firmware file will, if it would be able to install, brick your system, and thats bricked as in "the system is dead and needs to be shipped to Sony to repair. But the few people who got problems where able to "fix" the problem with a reformat of the HDD, therefor the firmware file itself has to be ok. Its something on these HDDs that is causing the trouble. Most likely a custom theme file, as the hangup happens right after the boot and just before the system applies the theme.
