The 360 needs more then just lower price.. MS should bundle some games (and a free year with live) with new systems IMO

Isn't the xbox 360 cheaper then the wii in europe as well? So Microsoft is trying to break into nintendo's casual market. I don't think a price cut is going to be enough, unless there going to be introducing their own nunchuks controller with motion sensing. But at this point in time, i think its going to be to late for either Sony or Microsoft to be introducing there own motion sensing controller. Because the wii is already established itself throughout the market, and i don't see the casual gamers making the job to the 360 just cause they copied of nintendo controllers. But time will tell, however Sony in the other hand has to make a move to stay competitive with Microsoft. Many analyst are saying that Sony will be forced to drop the price of their console if Microsoft drops theirs first. So we will see what happens.

I almost can't believe that Microsoft actually expects the 360 to all of a sudden start selling like hot cakes just because of a price drop. That earlier price drop in Europe this year that made the 360 cheaper than the Wii did almost nothing at all, but it helped 360 sales some, but the fact still remains that the PS3 is outselling the 360 despite the higher price point.

I can see why Microsoft might be a little frustrated right now. Microsoft has some of their biggest games out (Gears, Halo 3, Bioshock, Mass Effect, etc...) and Sony really only has 1 big game out (MGS4), and Microsofts console is cheaper than the PS3 and they are still getting outsold.

This is the way I see the Xbox 360 price cut situation: If the Xbox 360 isn't outselling the PS3 right now while having more big games out and having a price advantage, the PS3 will always continue to outsell the 360 worldwide, period.

I don't expect Sony to drop the price of the PS3 in July along with Microsoft, but Sony should definantly wait things out and see how much of an effect that the 360 price cut will have. But, I think that if Sony cuts the PS3's price around November or December, they will have more momenteum going into the holiday season than Microsoft because Sony's price drop would have been more fresh.

And you might see some sales spikes but other than that, they are dreaming if they think that a 50 dollar price slash will help move tons of units. They need something to help push the box and Gears 2 might be the ticket. Of course, many who played Gears 1 have already bought a 360 so even that might be pushing it a bit.
