MGS4 is better than GTA4 in every respect .

GTA4 graphics deserve no more than 8 . It should have got 9/10. i fell for the review and was massively disappointed with the game

In exchange for cash, IGN got an exclusive review, while GTA got a perfect 10 and guarantee nobody else gets one for a set amount of time.

This is their way of giving the game the best score it deserves, while not breaching it's contract with Rockstar!

The problem with GTA IV wasn't fanboyism, I don't think, but rather that not a one of the game reviewers out there had the stones to stand up and tell Rockstar that their game wasn't perfect. They could lose all access to the company when they do something like that, including both early access to the game in development, and access to early review copies.

Given that, whether it deserves the distinction or not, GTA is one of the biggest franchises in the industry, it is really difficult for journalists to choose the right way when they have so many hits to lose. It's an ugly, dishonest thing, but that's the nature of business.

End result? I won't be buying another GTA game without playing it first. That game deserved a nine *at best.*

Things to mark .1 off of GTA 4 for:
Gameplay mechanics: Auto-aim is shotty, hand-to-hand combat almost pointless, lack of a variety of weapons.

Multiplayer: Does not feel polished. Few co-op modes that never change destination points (I don't think it would have been too hard to do that right?) Some modes are utter crap. Cops and Crook had high potential, but only starting off with two max cop cars? Come on.

Presentation: Cut scenes were pretty boring and I think they all took place indoors.

Lasting appeal: Even if I wanted to play the game again, I wouldn't watch the cut scenes again. The missions are repetitive, not many different ways to finish a mission.

MGS4 towers GTA4 in all of these respects yet it gets a lower score? What happened mate?

IGN gave EVERYTHING a 10 but when it came to their lasting appeal they wrote this:

"Aside from the fact that the cut-scenes bear repeated viewing, you’ll want to play through MGS 4 again and again, simply to unlock ever more exotic weapons, items and player rankings."

but they give it a 9.5... If you love a game so much that you go as far as to say that you'll want to play it over and over and over again... and it you give it a 9.5...?! Simply.. wtf?!

The simple reason is.. they couldn't give two 10's so close together... wooow.. I just hope IGN US/America score is different and read their comments. Because IGN is not making NO sense with this review.

The following comment sealed the deal for me:

"Hopefully it won't be bending the rules to far to reveal that they [the cut-scenes] represent about half of the content of the game."

No way I am playing a game that is half cut-scenes. I think this is a love-hate type game and like all JPRGs I have seen - don't love it. And before you say "you can skip the cut-scenes" - that is how the game was intended to be played and no doubt brings something to the feel. But I don't like that kind of gameplay (or lack thereof) so I don't see how such a game can deserve such a high score. At most a 9.5 IMO - well done but the gameplay score should suffer because you have to sit through a huge amount of cut-scenes. Your milage may vary.

3.3 - They better not start doing that...

If a company puts amultiplayer mode in the package that should be reviewed with the package. It does make since, but then you have to give the full package a score thats a average of the 2 modes. The reason is that a game with a multiplayer mode has to be given extra value because now you are get 2 games when compared to 1. For instance GTA4 single player game i'd say 9.2 the multiplayer i'd say 6.4 making an average of 7.8 but Bioshock would be a 9.4. See the games are comparable but as far as perfection in the package in everything offered Bioshock is more solid because it didnt compete.

It would just make a mess of things, then to start it with a Ps3 exclusive would just show bias. Remember Halo 3 tge campaign could have arguably gotten a 8.7 to 9.3 but the multiplayer is a perfect 10. Why didnt they start this stuff then if they want to unvail this new standard it should be done with a multiplat. Dont start changing stuff up because they attempted multiplayer mode that maybe sub par.

GTA4 is on both PS3 and X360 and also coming to PC. Most of the copies of gTA4 have been traded in for MGS4 preorder/ have been inserted into preorders for MGS4 PS3 bundle (i did it myself)

MGS4 will be getting GOTY from GAMesradar, CVG and all other gaming websites except a selected few US websites

Mgs4 is one of those games that is not overated. While 9.9 is a good score, mgs4 still receives lower score than gta4, which is overated.

Not that I am unhappy about the score, but mgs4 should get a 10 like gta4 did from ign given that it is a much better game.

Bioshock and Mass effect are on PC and coming to PS3. All of them are overrrated. If you want to play a nice game then play Uncharted and Ratchet --true AAA games not overrrated crap

If you want to play an awesome FPS then you should play Resistance. Resistance 2 will tear away Gears 2 in Fall

Gears is as bad as Halo 3. However MGS4 alone is bigger than x360's entire gaming library

as for who gets GOTY

COD4 got GOTY from many sites despite scoring lower than Bioshock and Halo3 .opposite is also true

MGS4 will get GOTY from atleast 60% of websites

It will be getting GOTY from LEVEL,OPM,PSM and any other website which reviewed it except a few US websites which dont count
