MS selling old consoles as 'new' in Europe - buyers beware

Max Console reports that Fench website logic-sunrise who is usually pretty clued up on these things indicates that Microsoft's new 199 Euro's Xbox 360 packs with 2 games and 2 wireless controllers are in fact OLD machines. After opening 10 of them, they found that the machines have been converted to new and all have non-falcon motherboards, old Hitachi 47 or Samsung MS25 drives and the repair center sticker on them.

They suggest that you do not buy these packs and if you want a brand new machine, then fork out 199 Euro's for the arcade pack or 269 Euro's for the premium pack."

I bought a sealed 360 and I found out it was a refurb. No writing on the box that stated it was a refurb either. How did I know? There was tape residue left in the area where the tamper sticker was. On top of that residue was a new tamper sticker with 2 black dots on it. Probably to signify to the repair centers that it was a refurb. It also had a manufacture date of 08/2006. But when I shined a light into the vents I saw the extra heat sink that only old consoles that have been repaired received. There were also obvious marks on the back from someone removing the shell. That being said I got it dirt cheap and it works so I just kept it.

After reading the source. I fail to see where MaxConsole derived the 10 number from as the original post makes no mention of the number of consoles they've opened, where they purchased the console, when they purchased the console or anything, other than:

We opened up a 'brand new' xbox console today to find a Hitachi 47 DVD drive, and a white SAV sticker.

So where are the numbers spoken of in Maxconsole? 'neuf' in the text actually refers to 'new' not 9. I guess Maxconsole can't bother fact checking, and uses bablefish to do their translating. I feel bad for European gamers.

Aside from higher prices and standard delays for all platforms, they get nonsense store updates and penis thumb advertisements from Sony, and refurbished 360's sold as brand new from Microsoft.

In regards solely to this story: I'm not sure if this is illegal in the European countries where this is occurring, but I know for a fact that if they tried to pull this crap in the United States, they'd get slapped in the face with a lawsuit before they even had a chance to spin this in their favor.

The store unknowingly re-sale a system they believe to be brand new. the first Xbox was a quality machine. My friend stepped on it by accident and it works just fine. In fact, it didn't even crack. And a standard HDD, the ability to save music to the HDD, etc. I was all pysched to get the next installation. Then...oh then....then came the 360 hardware failures. Then came almost everyone that owns the system saying they're on their second one. No thanks. And now this. Comical. 360s break at Gaming conventions. C'mon guys, you blame the consumers for the breaking 360s yet the consoles MS pulls out for gaming events break.

This is beyond sad. This is flat out incredulous. The 360 could've been the machine that put Sony away. Instead it's reduced to a machine that could've been but was held back by hardware failures and a desire to build a console that could sell at a lower price point than PS3.

Bioshock and Gears 1 was actually pretty good. But omg Gaylo 3? What a crappy game. Even the multiplayer is only attractive the first week. And lets not talk about Mass Defect. It could be really good, but the framedrops, texture loadings, glitches etc made it almost unplayable.
