Kojima: MGS4 a Love Letter to the Hardcore

Hideo Kojima says:

When you think about the future of videogames, I think that you need to take some risks to move on forward," Kojima said at a press briefing in Tokyo, as reported by GameSpot. "Once you halt, it's really hard to go [back on track] and take steps forward.

1 - I wonder if he starts with MGS5 instantly or
if he's going to do something new before MSG5.

1.2 - Good interview
One of the best dev interviews (not really an interview, it was a press conference but u get my drift) I have read in a long time. Very honest, especially about Japanese game development.

@Saint Sony: hilarious screename btw.

2.1 - U could be right, but....
I have a feeling he wants to make a new IP and start fresh, but any new game kojima makes I will buy it because I know it will be a hit and be successful, kojima is just that great of a dev.

3 - Dont worry kojima us hardcore gamers got your back and love japanese games...
I am from america and to me I see it the opposite way. When u play to many american style type games it just seems to get old. But when I pick up games that japanese developers create, it just feels like they poor so much of there heart into there games and is why I enjoy games like mgs series, final fantasy series, resident evil series, mario series, zelda series, onimusha series, devil may cry series, ninja gaiden series, zone of the enders series. I love many japanese games because they just have there own art and style of games that are very unique. I also like american games aswell but if I were to choose m favorites, most of those games that I dearly love are made by japanese devs. Its not because I hate american games its just like I said before, I just feel that japanese devs put alot more effort into there games then most american devs do. That is the honest truth. Big companys like EA, Ubisoft do alot of half a$$ jobs on there games just to release them to get money and this is why I started to not play alot of the games thos company's offer. Just my opinion and Kojima, u have never let us down and we are proud fans of your work, keep up th great work and dont ever change the way u want a game just because others want it to be the way they want it, u stick with your ideas because we have faith in u that u will know best for your fans what an awesome game u will create for us next. I cant wait to play MGS4, I already know it will be one of the greatest games I will ever play in my gaming life. Keep up the great work kojima and keep bringing us great games. :)

3.1 - Here's a bubble clintos59
Kojima is the G.O.A.T. at what he does so well. I'm going in the same direction as a game designer, hopefully I can get the recognition that he gets(not in this lifetime). MGS4 is a day one purchase for me, see you guys on MGO when it drops.

3.2 - Thanx BSigel81 and totally agree...
Well hope u have alot of success. I know u can become just as great a dev, all it takes is hard work and a great vision for what u plan on creating. I think anyo game developer can be a great dev if they just put there hearts into there work. I know money can throw u off and is a big reason alot of games from third party's end up being not that great but there are those devs who take alot pride in there work and also love there fans like Kojima. He is my favorite dev because he is faithful to his hardcore fans and isnt greedy.

Anyways goodluck with your career and hope u get where u want to get and maybe one of these days we will be playing one of your games. :)

I hope this casual craze dies soon. At first it seemed that casuals would be come hardcore gamers but all the evidence shows other wise.

Kojima and the hardcore gaming FTW!

to that. The focus on casual gaming makes me fearful of the future of gaming in general and makes me wonder if my hobby will come to a close in the near future if kids, girls, and old people continue to dictate the market.

The hardcore gamer crowd needs more standard-bearers like Kojima to champion the cause but this is certainly not the way things are trending --- and that sux.

You're right. How many casuals have been drawn into playing proper games? None.
Look at the US charts.
GTA4 for PS3 and 360, Army of Two, Call of Duty 4 are in the top ten .

The Wii has plenty of the top ten spots, but the only decent gameplayers game in the top ten is Smash Brothers Brawl.

All the other Wii games that actually get bought are all party / casual titles:
Mario Kart Wii, Wii Play, Mario and Sonic at the Olympics, Mario Party, Wii Sports.

Maddens Raiders - don't worry mate.

Games are like every other medium. You'll always get people that are passionate about them and try and advance technology and game experience.

Hardcore won't die out with Kojima.

Look at that Epic guy's comment. He will never move backwards in technology to try and get the Unreal engine running on Wii. He always moves forward.

We'll be fine!

Casual gaming has always been around. The only difference now is that one of the major players in the home console industry is putting more focus on that demographic than anyone has done before.

While avid gamers have increased in numbers, blame the huge influx of casual gamers for the tremendous growth of the gaming market as a whole.

I'd be worried about the future of "hardcore" gaming if the overall size of the gaming market remained stagnant despite an influx of casual gamers, but that is not what is happening. There's room here for everyone. "WiiFit and GTA IV can co-exist"

We really need to back games like this. it would suck if developers like Kojima got stuck making Wii waggle games just to put food on the table when thats not where his heart is at. Last year we saw alot of games but some shared the same Ideas. Bioshock was the only game I played last year were the story was completely different than the norm and this year I think MGS4 will be the biggest stand out. Im getting the Limited Edition.

I have 2 ps3's 1 360 and 1 wii. But for games like this they dont come around to often. I am buying 2 copy's of MGS4 for me and my brother so yeah I really hope ps3 fans will buy MGS4. If u dont support great games like this then u will lose them to other consoles. Damn I hope MGS4 sells more then 8 million copies. The game is going to be awesome. See u guys on MGO after I finish beating the game a few times. :)

American developers have been making leaps and bounds strides, but let me tell you the skinny on that, it's so American devs can keep up with amazing Japanese devs like Kojima, they innovated and paved the way with the games we all grew up with. And to say that we in America, although he is right in that America is coming up with some neat products. You just can't replace the feeling you got from the first few final fantasies... the mario and duck hunt combo cartridge, The romance of the three kindoms games, Zelda series, Ninja Gaidan, Shinobi, Dragon Warrior series... all amazing games that Spoon fed a generation of, what I believe, to be intelligent, well informed gamers that know the difference between a good and bad game. This generation I am referring too DEMANDS excellence out of American developers because early Japanese developers set such a massive bar for them to beat growing up. I think that Japanese games will never die, their is a style around them and a feeling you get that you just can't get from the states and europe. It's been good for all gamers what Japanese devs have done and what they will no douby continue to do.... I salute you...
