* The inflated weekly NPD 360 'estimates' are never corrected - just a quick check against the real numbers shows the 360 constantly with numbers that are 100-200k too high each month

* Various European PS3 numbers are constantly out of date or just plain wrong/undercounted while 360 numbers are bumped up beyond their know sales levels

I think we all know that the numbers are not 100%. I remember that VG used to have a disclaimer stating so themselves.

But what this does show is a new trend of Sony outselling the 360 on global sales. This is good for Sony, but their userbase still will not overtake the 360 until they start outselling them in the U.S. At their current pace, they would only outsell the 360 by an additional 2.5-3M this year (unless 360 sales simultaneously begin to drop throughought the year).

However, this may be the start of just that... with the game lineup of 08 and another price drop before the holidays, I wouldn't be surprised to see Sony outselling the 360 everywhere by 09. Sony fanboys will have some awesome games to enjoy in 08... but I think you will have to wait another year before you can really begin to brag about sales.

I think the price point is going to sit at this level for a while throughout this year. I'm sure both sony and MS feel comfortable enough with the amount of units they are moving currently. If they weren't, then we would have seen price drops by now. It would have to make sense for MS to do that. The only reason they would is if sales start plummeting and PS3 starts to drastically overtake them.

Now that the format war is over, Don't think that Sony won't be able to price drop as well. After all, they are the ones who will be reaping the cash rewards from winning the format war.

It is the second week in the roll that PS3 has outsold Xbox 360 more than 60K now. This week is weaker number for all consoles, but PS3 still outsold Xbox 60K. It means the gap percentage increases. Wait you see the number for the next few weeks with the impact of Blu-ray win, it will be very interesting to see how big the gap will further be widening. The Xbox 360 doesnt stand a chance in reality. I think all the consoles are doing well which is good. 360 has slowed a little but will no doubt jump back with the next price drop. wii still beggars belife and Ps3 looks like it starting to get into its stride. Now a lot of 360 owners will point out that at its current rate the ps3 will take 5 years to catch up if all console sales stay the same, but theres no doubt they will all have ups and downs so i would say its impossible to say at this point who will sell the most. The PS3's price drop was because Sony admittedly F'd up in their market research and over priced the unit. 360 is price dropping because they cannot move enough units to keep up with PS3/keep their sales up.

Big Difference. If you put the sales on a graph it would show Sony's steady increase and it would show MS leveling off. What happens after leveling off unless something is done about it? You guessed it......a plummet on the chart (thats why their price drops would occur at this point, just to keep momentum, which they are failing to do) Sony doesn't have to do this because they are proving right now that they are able to grow at the current price level they are at (when this changes, they will price drop too) Simple economics guys.

Also, all of you xbox fans are working off of the assumption that the entire market is fair game. incorrect. Sony has a proven track record of retention. Meaning, many people who bought PS1's purchased PS2's. Hmm what do you think the other 111Mil. Sony customers who haven't purches a PS3 will typically end up doing. (You guessed it, purchase a PS3)

360 is priced at it's lowest $250 or something like that. At the 360's highest price it's over $450.

While the PS3 is priced currently at $399 to $499. And it has been (for a little while) and still is dominating the xbox 360 in worldwide sales.

With recent announcement of Warner Bros. going Blu-ray exclusive in a few months, that will most likey cause hd dvd to become non-existent sometime in 2008. Which should also increase PS3 sales, because if (or when) Blu-ray becomes the only hd format, we will see the PS3 sales start to surge like never before.

Sony knew what they were doing right from the start and so many people doubted them. Except for the people that matter - the consumers.

Well if you really think about the news just broke out that HD-dvd is dead we should start to see sales pick up just a little bit from here on out.

Don't try to flip this in the 360's favor, of course the 360 should be selling more than the ps3. With a cheaper price tag and a bigger selection of games not to mention thier biggest and one of the biggest games ever(Halo3) is out on the 360. Yet the ps3 still outsold the 360.

All Sony needs is America and what do you think will happen when MGS4 comes out and even games like GTA4 which I think will sell more on the 360 but I think it will push more hardware for the ps3.

The Warner BluRay defection wasn't announced until Fri, Jan 4th and most consumers probably won't even know about it until HD-DVD disks start disappearing from retail outlets. settle down man. You got to admit that vgcharts usually inflates 360 sales and deflates ps3 sales. No matter what any of us say the PS3 is gaining momentum. It's like a train - once it starts going it's very hard to stop.

Once Sony convinces America that PS3 has better games with the releases of God of War 3, FF13, MGS4, GT5, Haze, possibly Resistance 2, and more it will most likely go leaps and bounds over it's currnet state. And I think all system sales will improve in 2008 - it's just figuring out who will be the most improved this year. All of you gotta admit that software sales should improve dramatically this year for the PS3.

However, what you said was quite biased considering that you failed to mention that the wii, 360, ds, PS2, and PSP are also (or should be) in the same boat.

I predict by the end of 2008, instead of 7-8 million lead, sony will cut it in half to 3-4 million, thanks to strong support in japan and europe later this year.

The new console shouldnt release till 2010 at the earliest. 360 is still the most hit generator( i expect too human, halo wars, splinter cell conviction, alan wake and all of the multiplatform titles on 360 surpass million.) Lost Planet, Dead rising, bioshock, mass effect did it.

Even if xbox 360 does slip to #3 worldwide overall they will still be #2 in US and still give gamers the best games machine period. If xbox 360 does end up last, it aint going to be by more then a few million garanteed.

Even if japan never accepts microsoft which they don't seem too. We don't really need them. Saturn had japanese support but it didnt keep it from bombing. Sega Genesis Failed in japan but was still a viable competitor in US and Europe until sega acted stupid which everyone knows microsoft isn't going to in the slightest.

Whatever the outcome is, American Software Company Microsoft has really gave these japanese juggernauts a RUN for their money worldwide.

x360 was sellling around 40-50k in europe 1 year ago, now i think it will be in 60-70k range. And ps3 to be in 100-110 range. So from 30k to 50k lead. With big games released, it will be around 3 mln. lead over x360 in Europe ONLY.

I think it's because they've made a choice. If someone makes a choice that conflicts with their interest they'll become upset if attempts are made to sway people away from their corner.

Lets take this format war as an example. If I'm an HD-DVD supporter and people are creating FUD, it conflicts with my choice. This conflict could result in me losing the money I invested in that format. On the other hand if I was a blu-ray supporter and heard good news I'd be happy to hear the format I support is becoming popular.

Seeing both sides clashing for dominance is all about choice and how others choices may impact the market. Take the Warner deal and contemplate how many people are losing money for investing in the HD-DVD format. You can see why people are fanboys as they disagree with populer opinion. These people are trying to influence the market to support their choice over money they invested.

Even if you own both consoles. If one console fades out you'll feel the loss in one form or another because you still invested in it. Owning both just gives you the security knowing that you invested in all sides.

For the most part people like to feel security. When things look bad fans defend their choices because they know if their choice is on the losing side they'll suffer with it.

It's all about choice and how the choices of others can impact yours. IMHO, That my friend is what makes A "fanboy." As for respect people who feel insecure can't accept the harm caused by positive or negative spin because it's important to them that their choice has to be the popular choice.

Love my consoles, maybe.

Does your console love you back? If it's popular and supported more you'll have the opportunity to enjoy more games etc. If it loses support like the dreamcast through lack of sales, low attach rate or other issue you'll hate it because it may feel like a waste of your money. I can safety assume most people don't like losing on an investment.

it's really simple to understand. some people are trying to make one console look like garbage so the other looks better. I agree it's immature but some things can't be helped. It`s interesting how sales figures are used to point out the success or failure of a console in these conflicts.

People just have to defend their choice so they can feel good inside. I really find it hard to believe that people can be so in love with a gadget that they openly root for it and want it to "crush" everything else.

I can see how it is easy to become emotionally invested in a LOCAL sports team (or just one you grew up with loving). For me, the Cubs were always on TV, and my dad and I grew up watching them even though I live in KC. See that? It's got emotional investment - that's a key.

Outside of monetary investment, I am in no other way attached to any console.

I am just intrigued by the fervor and voracity of the emotional attachment people have with their video games - that's what I think is fascinating.
