Will Final Fantasy XIII Be The New Final Fantasy VII?

Will Final Fantasy XIII be the game that rejuvinates the RPG genre and hits it big for the PS3 platform? Final Fantasy VII was the first game on the original Playstation platform, and it (very quickly) became one of the fastest (and most) selling titles on the Playstation's.

Can Square-Enix recreate that with Final Fantasy XIII? With such improved visuals, more disc space for the SE to use and not forgetting the Playstation 3's Cell Processor (if used) can do wonders for the game... so will Square be able to pull this off? What are your thoughts? Do you think it can even be done? Or do you feel that it'll just be a great game, just not "as" great as Final Fantasy VII?

i remember reading that the devs wanted to have ffxiii have the same impact that ffvii had. ffvii mainstreamed rpgs with its high production values and revamped battle system, and i'm guessing that ffxiii will have proportionally the same production values as well as that same impact with the battle system.

especially since the devs are trying to recreate the freeflowing fighting seen in advent children. if they manage to pull it off, which i wouldn't be surprised at because it is square we're talking about, then they would have a true next gen game.

i know i'm in the minority, but i really couldn't care less about FF anymore. honestly i have no idea what the game is about or what the structure will be like. personally, it just doesn't hold any type of interest for me. maybe with more information in the future it will. give me LBP though please. that's the game that will change things, i think.

FF7 had a lot of marketing behind it back in the day, the only way FF13 can equal/surpass FF7 is if it also has a big marketing push.

on the gameplay, if the gameplay is revolutionary and will somehow appeal to maybe non rpg enthusiasts, then yes. By guessing at the in game battles the AI alone should be using the cell pretty heftily.

Really? I don't think so... Final Fantasy VII was the major shift not only in the series, but from a SNES to a PS1... The shift from a PS2 to a PS3 isn't as big comparing to that from SNES to PS1.

Besides, we don't even have seen nothing of the game, how could we say already how good it will be?

EDIT: I would like to see the battle between ps3/360 when The Last Remnant is out. seeing as they are looking for a simultaneous JP/NA release for both the ps3 and 360 version [mainly in japan to see what system sells the most] ;o

final fantasy 13 will be the new 7 to us gamers whove experienced 7, but for newcomers, this could be true. for newcomers this could bring to the table alot that 7 did when we were newcomers back then. I have no doubt this will be a great game and have pretty successful sales though

The Final Fantasies of every new system is always amazing and pushes the limits of the console. I don't think it'll be the new FF7 because there's absolutely no replacing the greatness of that game, but FF13 will definitely have a big moment to shine if the game turns out the way or even better than we can imagine.

How hard is it for people to just differentiate the different games.

XIII and XIIIversus are not the same game. Do the research on each title and what it's going to do for the rpg genre, then make these dumb articles. There's a ton of info out there.
Each XIII game functions independantly of the others. It's the equivalent of bioware making baldurs and then neverwinter. hell by the sounds of it there's way more linking never winter and baldurs. Read an interview with nomura the only real link is the fact that they both have a mythos surrounding crystals, but its kinda like looking at two gangster flicks; goodfellas and godfather are not the same film.

The XIII project isn't meant to ape the 7 compilation thing. Marvel have done things like this many times. The key differences is that with the 7 games, they were all interconnected. In addition the quality wasn't consistent and you could tell the reason was because 10 years ago they didnt plan on continuing and they were probably worried about annoying the fanbase.

the reason why i post this is cause i think a lot of people are stupidly going to judge the each game as if each game is just the facet of a larger interconnected game. That isn't the case.

I've read interviews and the guy specifically behind XIII said that XIII will do a FF7. Nomura spoke about other things. I'm confident both games will be the greatest ff's.

final fantasy 7 did everything too perfect..from the story to gameplay...FF series have suffered after FF8 in my opinion.

9 was trash (i did like the card game)

I think FFXIII has the potential to be bigger then FFVII its just a question of if it can live up to that potential. Regardless of if it is worthy of surpassing FFVII it will certainly be the best game around whenever it decides to come out.

is Versus the real rival of FF7, i mean.. look at the main character, he looks like Cloud just with black hairs and looks lil bit more better than him. Nya.. but i think.. he does own more with swords than cloud.. the finishing move of cloud in Advent Children looks extreme similar to the attack which mr. blackhair does. I mean. they are much similar imo.
Dont know but Versus is gonna be my favorite Fabula Nova Crystallis Game. :D

I never liked FFVII, at the time I wasn't into RPG games!

But in talking to lots of fans of FFVII, the main thing that made that game so great was the story. Alot of the fans were in love with the story!

True fans seem to have not liked the latest FF stories, and referred to them as garbage. I liked FFX, which was the first FF game(and rpg) I played, and actually finished! I liked the story, the graphics, the characters and all. But in alot of other peoples minds... It was one of the worst FF games to come out! Alot of fans didn't think too highly of FFXII either, as that took the crown as the worst FF game to come out in alot of fans minds.

I can't really judge for myself, but based on what fans have said about the most recent entries... I don't know if we should be worried about this game or not?

It seems like square/enix has lost something along the way. I hope this title shows that they are back on track, and are ready to produce the titles that the fans want! And not just remakes.

You are right, it is all about the story. But funily enough, I liked the story in final fantasy X but hated it in final fantasy XII. It is always good when the characters have back story and we learn new things about them during the game, FFXII had none of that.

I feel pretty sure that the graphics and gameplay elements will be fine. It is just the story that could really let it down.

FFVII transformed me into an RPG fan. It's was the first game that made me care about the characters and the story. If they can deliver another incredible story like that I will give them all the credit in the world.
