PS3 outsells Wii & 360 in Japan, PS3 Dynasty Warriors 6 outsells Mario Galaxy

In addition to the first day sales figures, some early numbers from Famitsu have been released for the whole week, including hardware sales that show a massive leap for the PlayStation 3 following the launch of the new White model, plus a price drop. Due to the increase in adverts for Wii Play and Wii Sports, both games launch back into the Top 10, whilst Super Mario Galaxy holds up quite respectably in its second week, also helping to keep Wii sales at a healthy 35,000. Check out the numbers below:

I genuinely believe that the price cut/new model is responsable for most of the PS3 sales.

DW6 is also on the 360, but despite there still being an increase in demand left over from Ace Combat 6, sales of 360 have started to drop back to its normal levels - and the DW6 title doesn't appear to be driving sales of that platform....

Actually I believe DW6 is the big reason behind PS3 beating Wii. Price drop is a factor but it all comes down to games. Remember how 360 outsold PS3? It was because of people's love for Ace Combat 6 and now it's love of DW6. If Ace Combat 6 was on PS3, system's sales would have been doubled by now.

i disagree MK_Red, first the 360 didn't outsell the ps3 by that much at most 300 units you might as well call it even. I know Xbox fans would if those were NA figures and it was the other way around. Ace did push 360 sales but the only reason it was on par with the ps3 is because it was a week before a price drop and the introduction of a new color. I think color was a driver for the simple fact its exclusive and the first color change to date.

The Japanese aren't hugely into shooters to begin with. If people want to play dumbed down shooters they buy a 360. If they want a wide assortment of games they buy a PS3. The love of the console shooter is so comical to hardcore PC gamers. Why would I use a gamepad, when I can play a better, more innovative shooter (Crysis) on a PC with a mouse and keyboard? I'll never understand it.

Because using a controller is a VERY small price to pay for being able to enjoy nexgen gameplay without spending TONS (reletively) on upgrading hardwware. AND if you are getting UT3 on PS3 you can enjoy M/KB ANYWAY.I used to be exclusively a PC gamer, I then just got sick of always being behind the curve and just switched to consoles. I was a student and couldn't afford to keep up. And I payed for my own stuff, my mommy didn't pay for it (not saying you do though).The only console I ever owned before the PS3 was the Sega Genesis, beleive it or not! (But my mommy did by that one for me ;)

But on point, I am actually really amazed at the figures. when I read "PS3 outsold Wii" I thought it was by a small margin! this is a little more surprising. Anyway, good news all around! CAN'T WAIT FOR UNCHARTED!!!!

Nintendo is dominating the hell out of everyone in Japan (and pretty much worldwide). 8 of the top 10 software titles are Nintendo based (only 1 ps3 title which is pretty sad).

Thats good PS3 hardware numbers! I wander if this 'spike' can be retained now in Japan? I think theres indications that it can be, as a large number of the most anticpated titles in Japan are PS3 titles.

Given America's seeming love affair with the 360 in its home market, the Ps3 needs to score big in Japan and consilidate its lead in europe to continue to attract prime developement. There is every indication that this is exactly what will happen, and the market will be split USA / rest of the world. Intresting times... :)

Well, for 14 months, at about 6 million behind the 360 and Wii, the PS3 would only have to outsell them both by 430k every month, worldwide, to catch up by the end of 2008.

MS and Nintendo released their biggest hitters in 2007 (Namely Halo 3 and Mario Galaxy) while Sony's heavy hitters aren't even out and MGS4 and FFXIII will come in 2008. At least Wii has SSBB and WiiFit but MS has no Halo or Mass Effect for 2008. Games like Too Human, Fable 2 and Alan Wake are great but none have the appeal and power that Halo has for Xbox or MGS and FF have for Sony.

The success of the Ipod in japan is due to the software behind it... the service ITune provides.. rendering all other MP3 players dumb compared... only until now the Zune is trying to stablished a similar service. Ipod is pretty much alone in the market as far as service is concern and since most of the music and TV originates from the US... wouldn't make sense?

I think the release of DW6 had more to do with the sales than the new model and price cut. All the ps3 need is games, and it sell. Look what happen in Japan when one good game is release over there. Console sales increase by 5 times what it was the week before.

This is how snes beat sega. Sega blasted snes in NA with negative media, even a tv ad about burial (yes, the snes was physically in a mortuary with a mort ician! But outside NA sega wasn't popular and once snes dropped the 94'-96' arsenal of classics, usa gamers went snes. They shunned the media cause snes had games genesis couldn't do or share. And for hd dvd heads those hot 40GB bundles have popular games, Dualshock 3, and Blu Ray movies. Smart move, huh?

Looks as if Japan loves Dynasty Warriors, even 360 sold 27k copies, ps3 #'s are waaay up for the week, but it will be interesting to see if this will hold or will the wii be back on top, ps3 is still well behind wii's overall total and of course nintendo hasn't made anykind of price drop which I still dont think you will see for awhile, as for the 360 I think 7k is OK considering its miserable lows we've seen in past weeks selling 1.5-3k Now @42.3 dont pretend the videogame culture/industry in japan is NOT heavily favored towards homegrown products, japanese people are in fact very sensitive to their reputation in gaming history, ipod market is totaly different, in fact US music, movies, entertainment is very popular in Japan, like most other places but even more so in japan, their TV shows and commercials are full of American music, actors but Gaming well its just different arena simply because their tastes are very strange to say the least compared to what most people outside of Japan enjoy when it comes to gaming, don't believe me take a look at some of these old classics:

I dont think you would see those games anywhere else and even today alot of Japanese centric ps2 games never make it anywhere outside of japan because obviously they only appeal to the local gamers, again micro outselling ps3 for a week was a moral victory but even then NO 360 fan in his right mind thought it would continue to do so, good games that the japanese gamers like AC6 will give it a spike but thats all, but I'll keep saying it micro doesnt need to win(outsell) ps3 in japan, they only need to outsell the original xbox and most importantly maintain japanese *dev support*.

Sony cares about its consumers so much that they feel they should price their console at a point where you say "I want to work extra hours" to be able to buy it.

They care about you so much, they're using you to sell their bluray players and confuse the numbers.

They care about the gaming community so much, that they have exclusives on the PS3.

They price their system at a point most people can't afford it. That's not good for the community. They're pushing the PS3 as bluray players, so that they can win a format war that has nothing at all to do with gaming. That's not good for the community. They force people to buy their product to play games. That's not good for the community.

Sony is a company interested in its profit, not you. Nintendo is the most gamer-centric company because games is all they do. Sony and MS (don't get me started on MS, they're terrible, worse than Sony) both can survive without you, the gamer. Their bottom line is what matters, and if its you or somewhere else, they'll go to it, and, let me tell you something, in the world of electronics, its not you.
