Big Microsoft first-party title canceled, high-up exec on the way out

1up Yours this week (11/09/07) mentions a couple of "hot rumors" near the end of the podcast. Here are the transcripts from the relevant segments in the podcast:

Shane: I won't go into exacting detail because these rumors haven't been confirmed but they're definitely swirling around. They're probably gonna break next week. So a preview of what you may be seeing next week. A big Microsoft first-party title that has been in the works for a very long time that people are very excited for, sounds like it's being canceled. And a Microsoft executive who's pretty high up, who's been a voice for the company, sounds like he's on the way out. (1:58:11-1:58:37)

Simon: How solid are these rumors? (1:58:46-1:58:48)

Shane: I would give these rumors like a 97-percent chance. (1:58:50-1:58:55)

my money on Alan Wake....

PimpHandHappy6003d ago

is out

and who ever the suit is that is leaving doesnt matter. They will fill that spot in no time

Gamespot-equals-EGM6003d ago

Halo 3 has been cancelled. That's going to hurt MS big time.

j/k, yeah i agree its probably Alan Wake, although I never really understood why people were excited about it to begin with.

MK_Red6003d ago (Edited 6003d ago )

Huxley is not much of a first party game. It's a PC game that is also being ported to 360. Also, it just got into second beta phase few days ago so I don't think it's the one.

The article/podcast says the game "Has been in works for a VERY long time" long dev time in games is more than 5 years and the Too Human was in the list of most delayed / in works games of all time so I think it's TH.
Too Human was once a N64, PSone and even GameCube game and on every one of those generation / consoles, it has was canceled once...
IF I remember correctly, in of the recent previews of Too Human (Pro-G?) they said that the game was not ready when it was showed 2 years ago at E3 and the previewer believed that it's still not ready even for a quick showing.

As for Alan Wake and why people like it, It's because it's a freaking Remedy game. The team that made the superb AAA Max Payne games and was praised by many during E3 and other showings.

ruibing6003d ago

I agree that its Alan Wake.

Evil0Angel6003d ago

agree with every single word you said.
respect man

TheSadTruth6003d ago

It's Banjo Kazooie 3

I have a friend of a friend, whose cousin works at Microsoft, who got the details directly from RARE. You didn't hear this from me

Sean142336003d ago

I think your right. That title has been one I have wanted more info in since I purchased my 360 at Launch in Nov 05, yet nothing ever gets announced about it, 2 E3's later still no news. I bet this is the one.

Leathersoup6002d ago

After playing Max Payne I was really looking forward to Alan Wake. :(

The official site was there a while ago, and now it's gone! Now the link redirects to the main page.

InMyOpinion6003d ago

Sounds most probable. Alan Wake, Too human and Fable 2 are too far into the development process and we've seen demos and trailers from all of them.

Banjo Threeie on the other hand has never been shown to public more than that it made an appearance in one of MS trailers at a gameshow(was it last E3?). Too bad cause the 360 really needs a platformer and Rare knows how to do them well.

TheSadTruth6003d ago

Rare is such a joke these days. They are the company that single handedly saved the SNES and made the n64 the greatest multiplayer console in the history of gaming. What have they done since then? Viva Pinata, PDZ, Kameo and that's it. What a f***ing disappointment -_-.

Gamespot-equals-EGM6003d ago

Rare is like the girl who used to be ultra hot but now is just a scrub. You see her 10 years later and she's all wrinkly from being out in the sun too much and out of shape from eating to much and being lazy.

EDMIX6003d ago

WTF? its not Alan Wake MS does not own the IP, Remedy does, its a 3rd party dev, like Epic and Gears. Its not Banjo either, they said in development for a long time, AAA, and a lot of people are excited for. My beats are on Fable, cause they showed this game at E3 2006, and then after that Nothing. Its not Too Human either Silcan Knights owns the IP, where do you noobs here this crap from? Alan Wake?

tplarkin76003d ago

You're assuming that "first party" was the text book definition. You may be right, but the leaker/mole may not have used the most accurate term.

sanderFVCKINcohen6003d ago (Edited 6003d ago )

Your retarded....it is not Fable2, because they just finished there diary#3...if you had a 360 you would know that, and by that, it shows they are still strongly in developeing Fable2. Nor is it Alan Wake, you goofs: http://n4g.com/News-82334.a...

It is also not Banjo Kazooie3, because that is just ridiculouse for Rare not to make it...because they have something to prove. The only game that I will see as a first-party developer being canceled under Microsfot Games Studios IS.....drumrolllsss.....HALO WARS. Thats RIGHT...maybe its for financial reasons, or they need more workers on another certain game...like Fable2 or Peter Molyneux's other project known as the "Dimitri Project"(which is B.C., not canceled, just suspended).

karlostomy6003d ago

errrm... you're kidding right?

cancel a HALO game on the 360? The mere mention of the 'H' word in the 360 community equals guaranteed sales.
WHy on earth would MGS cancel guaranteed sales?

nuh-uh.

Jack Bauer6003d ago

lame, prolly gonna be alan wake...

ShiftyLookingCow6003d ago (Edited 6003d ago )

Alan Wake is owned by Remedy(MS only has publishing rights like Mass Effect, unlike Halo and Gears of War) so it isn't exactly first party.

from Alan Wake forums(see comment by mod):
http://www.alanwake.com/for...

gamermoney19856003d ago

i think its too human it has to be cause it is the only game from ms that every time u look around something else is goining wrong, beside alan wake site was just updated why would they up date there site just to canle the game.

70 percent of devs unsure of live-service games sustainability

It was worrisome to begin with.

It's a niche genre with only a handful of hits that can stand the test of time.

CrimsonWing6911h ago

What’s to be unsure of!? Look at the ratio of success to failure!

shinoff218310h ago

Yes. Stop all the live service bs.

jznrpg10h ago

Only a few will catch on. You need a perfect storm to be successful in GaaS and a bit of luck on top of that. But a potential cash cow will keep them trying and some will go out of business because of it.

MIDGETonSTILTS179h ago

Helldivers 2 manages just fine…

Keep production costs low… don’t just make custscenes until the mechanics and enemies are perfected first.

Make so much content that you can drip extra content for years, and the game already feels complete without them.

Most importantly: make weapons, enemies, levels, and mechanics that will stand the test of 1000 hours. This might require more devs embracing procedurally generated leveled, which I think separates Helldivers 2 from Destiny’s repetitiveness.

The Battle Pass Is The Worst Thing To Happen To Modern Gaming

Nameer from eXputer: "Some exceptions aside, I don't think the battle pass is a net positive for gaming with how they're implemented in most live service titles."

got_dam14h ago

Battle passes AND meta gaming both.

DivineHand12512h ago(Edited 12h ago)

I like the way Helldivers 2 does battle passes. It allows you to make purchases on each level of the battle pass and gives you the option of choosing which item to unlock first. The more purchases you make using medals the further you progress. There is no timer and you can earn medals towards purchasing stuff via personal orders and Major orders.

I haven't played much live service games that have battle passes but I remember some games that have battle passes where you progress through it linearly using an exp system. What makes it really bad is that the battle pass will have like 50 or more levels with the cooler stuff being closer to the end. They also have an in-game shop that sells exp boosters so you can reach the end of the pass before it refreshes. Everyone ilse will have to grind their way through.

lucian22911h ago

battle pass in fortnite is perfect; buy one and it buys the rest for every other season as it gives you more money than the first cost. so 8.50 and season ends with you getting 13.00, it pays for the next and you have some pocket change to save up for cash shop. All of which is optional
