Blu-ray BD+ Copy Protection Cracked, Disc Burning App Out by Year's End

SlySoft (the makers of AnyDVD, CloneDVD, and many other disc-copying software apps) has just cracked the Blu-ray BD+ copy protection. SlySoft CEO Giancarlo Bettini said his company will release commercial software to copy Blu-ray movies and games by the end of the year. Sony had said its copy protection would be good for ten years.

However, Blu-ray blank discs are still very expensive right now ($40+ for a writable,) so it is not yet financially feasible for consumers to be burning their own Blu-ray discs.

BD-R discs are going to get cheaper soon since TDK (I believe) just started finalizing organic dye for those discs.

I want to throw up when i read this kind of articles. Thank God that this time Sony with some firmwire updates can actually find new ways to stop this crap, even if in future there is a way to play pirat games on ps3

With hd-dvd players requiring a net connection and most blu-ray ones connected up, the cracking/protection game is going to be a moving target. They don't have to make it 100% foolproof. They just have to make it more annoying to bother with than the cost of the media is.

Seriously lots of cracking new today. And actually you don't need a burner if you can stream the hd video to your hd tv with your computer. Might have some initial cost to set up but still probably less then a hd-dvd/blueray burner and the disks to burn the,.

Are people still that dumb to believe this will work? You can copy the Blu-Ray disks, that doesn't mean you can play them on the Blu-Ray players.

I still havn't see anyone put in a BD backup and be able to play a game off of it. The disk may have the same data, but the drives are still often able to tell if it's legit or not.

but i haven't heard anything about them working on standalone players for either side (hopefully someone can provide info on this). So far, they haven't been able to get pirated PS3 titles to work though. The data's there, but the system rejects fake discs.

The problem with not being able to make a copy is that there might be a real reason that someone has a copy.

I know my grandparents have made copies of VHS and DVD movies, and had to use them because the original was destroyed.

We should all know, when we buy a movie, we're not buying the disc, but the right to watch that movie. That right still exists even if the original disc was destroyed. I, personally, have a bit of a problem buying a disc with a movie on it, which is waht we have unless someone can get a copied disc to play on a bluray/HD DVD player.

Isn't it better to preserve the rights of those that buy your movies than stop those who don't?

Old news. Blu-Ray was cracked many months ago. Firmware will put a damper on the piracy scene, though. While HD-DVD has no region locks, that will be their own undoing.

I love seeing Sony get trashed like this, they think they own every thing and everyone. It's fantastic to see this happen yet again so quick to knock them down a peg or two. i don't endorse piracy, what I do endorse is the "I will teach them a lesson" that things like this do. I don't believe in all this DRM crap that locks down products we spend good money on, if you want a backup you should be able to make a backup. Great news indeed, Same thing will happen with HDDVD too soon enough.

Well the media you have to buy to burn the Blu-ray movie cost the same as the original. So right now there is no point in this.

Theres alot of poor people around here who cant afford games so they pirate them pretty sad and its obvious they got no real freinds or a real social life,
can you imagine when your invite friends over to your house and you take out this pirated copys of games LMAO pretty sad thank god i never in my life life pirated a game and dont plan to i want the real stuff.
