Current Halo 3 Sales Figures : 1.8 Million sold in 8 Hours

In even more Halo 3 related news, initial sales for Master Chief's latest incarnation are coming in, and the Xbox 360 exclusive title has sold through 1.8 million copies during the first 8 hours of release. The break down is 1.5 million sold through pre-orders, with an additional 300,000 copies sold without pre-order

Those are some great numbers. I'm impressed. But at Barom above me, I think WoW:TBC had more of a direct audience. The 360 has been out for a relatively short time, as has all the others, so the market penetration is minimal. The 360 has sold 11.10 million according to VGChartz, whereas WoW:TBC sold 8 million when TBC launched, and almost 100% of those people had the intent to buy the expansion (I bought it a month later). So WoW:TBC had an advantage, because it was an expansion for a game with a hardcore audience (aka addicted). Halo 3 isn't an expansion, so I think it's not fair to compare it to one. You ought to compare those figures to other games, and you'll see that those are some highly impressive numbers.

Me and my family and friends have clocked in 9 hours and I will tell you this. Its soooooooo beautiful. The Graphics are fantastic...the gameplay is unbelievable.....

I'm pretty good at Halo.....I was a level 32 on Halo 2 multiplayer ranking.....

I'm playing the single player on Heroic and I played throught the first mission in 3 hours. LOL....It was definately a challenge. I'm sure with 4 player co op it would make it easier...But, I would think most gamers will not be able to beat it in less than 12 hours on Heroic....I haven't tried normal....

It does live up to the hype. But I do have to say that the best way to play and see Halo 3 is in FUll 1080p. Simply Stunning folks. WOW

Other game developers will be looking at these figures as well. If an installed base of less than 15 million can support sales of 5 million for a single title in just one year, developers will know which platform has won over the segment of the market that actually BUYS games.

This should also serve as a wake up call to PS3 supporters. The total hardware sales numbers would not sting as badly as long as software sales keep up. But thus far, they haven't been. When its installed base was at 4.5 million units sold, the 360 moved more software than the PS3 is moving at that level right now. This is not a knock on the hardware. The hardware is good. Rather, it's a knock on the HARDWARE OWNERS. Money talks and bulsh*t walks. So quit posting so much here and start buying games.

In my opinion, Fight Night 3, Nhl 08, Madden 08 and COD 3 were worth it. Just admit it, you PS3 owners get your lunch money taken by the Dreamcast owners on your way to school so you have none left for games. mandrake makes some excellent points on the software buying habits of ps3 owners....with barely one or 2 titles in npd every month registering, problem is ps3 owners aint stupid and stay away from gimped multiplayer versions of games which in turn gives them a low number of software buyers, which hurts the system. developers are watching and salivating over these halo 3 numbers....problem for them is they have too have something equal or exceed halo 3...COD4 imo might do that.

Mag-lev..while a few consoles will sell..the money is in software sales...thats the reason why halo3 gives m$ their first profits of their gaming division ever.

ha snuka.. wait 5-10 minutes, I assume you meant getting onto a ranked server. Although I do have a couple of questions about the new halo, some thing I wish changed when playing halo2? Do you still have the blue screen when the host exits the game? Does the second player on the screen have to sign into a profile, then into an account to play split screen? Can you jump into the a non ranked game, like team training, in mid game, or do you have to do the whole process to get in, the profile, sign into account process. Just things I notice when playing halo2 at my cousins.

ok, anybody playing the game yet?, can you answer some questions for me. Do you still have the blue screen when the host gets out of the game? Something that is really annoying in halo2. If you want to play splitscreen, do you have to log into a profile, then into an acocunt to play? If the person is already playing online, if you want to play splitscreen, does the player have to exit xbox live and set up the second player before logging back in. Not trying to bash or anything, just some things I notice playing halo2 that should change.

Wow. It's just crazy. The games a lot of fun. Starts kinda slow, but it works into the good stuff.

Like on level 6 right now. Crazy vehiclular action over huge areas, NO SLOWDOWN. The only time the framerate dropped for me for about 2 secs
is when a Covenant dropship exploded at the same time as a Scarab.

Matchmaking is sweet. Levels really look great IMO. Interior spaces can drop jaws. AI on Legendary is stunning. They create bottlenecks, suppress, flank, use equipment very effectively.

Saved films is pure bliss. This alone makes the game worth $60. I swear it's so fun to watch a replay of a guy getting lasered from across the map in slow motion.

Haven't really messed with Forge yet. Except just 5 min to see all the different items you can have. I can tell you if I get bored ever, this will solve the problem. You can do a lot with this mode.

Theres so much fun in this game yet to be had, I haven't even scratched the surface.

Halo Haters eat your hearts out. This game is teh awesome.

I'M BACK

I know you've all missed me, especially DJ and peeps. I put myself on a week sabbatical in order to not spoil the ending, and I've finally finished it. The ending was not spoiled, and it was insanely incredible. I never, really never, cared about the campaign but I was blown away by how perfect they brought it all back to halo 1. The environments, music, etc we're all unspeakably amazing. I'd walk around and see the structures and literally think it was Halo 1. They brought halo back to basics, they kept everything that was good and ditched the rest.

Yah it isn't the best in graphics, but gameplay, multiplayer, and community wise this game will continue to be the king for the next 3 years. Some aspects of the game weren't the best, like how I rarely ran out of ammo, marine models, and oddly enough the hardness. I mean, perhaps I got better, but heroic didn't kill me nearly as much as Halo 2. Perhaps I am just more agile and sharp, i don't know.

Halo will return as an FPS, with a new storyline in perhaps 3-7 years. It just will, think of this like a break.

Can someone explain to me what the difference is between Limited edition, legandary edition and the third that is no edition. I got my copy today and it is not legendary edition or limited edition.

Is there some big difference between these editions? I mean, like it's different endings or that in legendary edition you can play the legendary diffucult or what?

There is too much fanboy attitude on this site, if you dont realize that both systems have great games and their own strengths then you have no right to call people fangirls.. Because you are one yourself!
