Getting what you deserve: Ubisoft's site hacked by disgruntled gamers

Rumour is the ubisoft front page was hacked by "Skidrow", a group who are notorious for cracking PC games. The hackers left a message letting anyone who visited the site know that a crack is coming soon.

I'm actually rooting for the hackers on this one (not pirates - just hackers that make Ubi's life miserable), if it helps to get rid of DRM like this.

I've never pirated a game and never will. Sadly, I'll just stay away from their wares completely. I hope others do the same to help drive the message home...

What's also stupid is DRM game saves.

They're protecting the game saves that you worked through from being copied or backed up. It's one thing to restrict games from being pirated but the game saves could at least be limited to user account restrictions. For all that's holy if I make a save under my username Sarick I should be allowed to transfer that save to any system that I have access to my account on.

Even better, why can I not copy my saves because some company places DRM on them. It's like telling us resale your used games asap because the saves are limited to the life of your hardware! The game might not be limited to a single machine but with the saves being locked down like this they might as well say you need to start over if you want to play on another system.

In the Ubisoft situation you have to be online to use your game. If those servers go down or are taken down your software is cut off. In all meaning your disk based software isn't owned by you it's leased and when they decide to stop supporting it you can't use it anymore.

This isn't only DRM it's planned obsolescence so that the games we own will stop working when these companies decide to discontinue support for them. I can hook up my my old NES plug in a game and it'll load up the same as it did in 1990 (unless the battery is dead!) These data disk probably won't work in 5-10 years because the company requires you to log on etc. simply to install or run the product.

i think the biggest way to say F off kotick is simply just find a way for MW2 to be able to play on a private server and not their . im sure most ( if not all ) of MW2 PC players will simply leave .
hacking his bank account would be WAYYYY too much trouble . it's not an easy job . the website is much easier .

I do get a feeling Ubisoft announcing they wont be making any more PC games. Oh well whatever Ubisoft has done this gen has been terrible. All of their games have been repeatfests:

Farcry2 : repeat fest, same mission over and over
Prince of persia: same thing, just keep repeating the missions
AC1, AC2: Repeatfests.

agreed i was going to buy AC2, however the 59usd price and DRM included no way will i make the purchase.

They delay the game for about 4months then charge a higher price, along with a strong DRM. All of this only ensures legit customers dont buy your game.

I haven't bought a Ubisoft game in years principally because of the god awful starforce protection and now I will continue to NOT buy Ubisoft titles because of this god awful DRM. ReBurn there is a reason why Ubisoft are doing this DRM, it's because their games DON'T sell on the PC. They are under the impression this is due to "piracy" it isn't it's down to the fact their games are lazy ports of a console game.

The majority of PC gamers (I have been a PC gamer for nearly 20 years) don't want to play rehashed console games on their PC. If I wanted to play a console game like Assassins Creed then guess what I would do ? that's right I would buy a damn console to play it on.

So yeah you should listen to me when I am talking, I am a PC gamer and as such I know what me and many PC gamers like me want and will accept.

To inconvenience loyal PAYING customers for the sake of a FALSE sense of security is bad. It is not a secret that savvy paying customers who couldn't get DRM'ed legal software to work properly gave up on it, and downloaded the pirated better working copies so they could play the game as intended.

I’m not sure how many people see this as a Robin Hood type event. UbiSoft is trying to protect their IP and the honest gamers who play their games. Hackers are pissed off because they cannot get a free game, boost stats, or enter GOD mode while playing. I don’t like the idea of being forced to stay connected to the internet to play a game. However, I only blame the dishonest gamers for forcing Ubisoft into this position.

And to those of you who think it’s no big deal if Ubisoft quits making PC games…. Think again. Several game makers are doing just that because it is not profitable for them. I see the beginning of the end for PC gaming as more and more people support the hacking/stealing of games instead of game makers. If no one buys or supports the game…why make it?

I dont care what anybody says , but all the server attacks and this website hack is their own fault. A person should not be forced to be online just to play a game and I hope all these attacks go on to any games developer that uese this this type of DRM until they change it to some other type of DRM where a person isnt forced to have a full and good online connection to play their game. This is punishing any customer who buys the game not knowing they need to be online when that person has no internet and cant return the game. I am all for DRM thats not too harsh but this ubisoft DRM is gone way too far.

It's true that Ubisoft really did kind of ask for it.. Not only did they implement this broken, horrible DRM.. but they kept taunting hackers saying "There's no full crack yet! There's no full crack yet! No one could ever crack this game! Nope nope nope nope nope! Nevers!"

Now, when the game is cracked fully and released, Ubisoft will not only have had their game pirated, but they'll also get a lot more attention for their stupidity over this all.
