LA Noire's Future on Xbox 360 Again in Question Because of DVD

GFB writes: "It looks like there may be some issues with Rockstar Games' highly anticipated and very ambitious LA Noire for the PS3 and Xbox 360. In particular it appears the Xbox 360 version is the one with issues. While many have questioned the DVD media format on the 360 since 2006, it seems the antiquated format is causing enough problems to be frustrating the team at Team Bondi, the developer behind LA Noire."

even if it comes out gimped on 360, the 360 version will have a better rating on meta than PS3. just like FFXIII.

360: 83 (18 reviews)
PS3: 82 (38 reviews)

i love R* but GTAIV was pure crap.

EDIT: @below: i'm laughing at hypocrisy here. that too a biased one. Bayonetta:

360: 90 (85 reviews)
PS3: 86 (53 reviews)

GTAIV got 10/10 from most sites but it was still a crap.

it's a good thing that you don't bother about critics much. even i don't care much. i haven't read a single review of GOW3 because i know that game is going to be a great one.

@playstationgen: yup! they're just slowly killing the game industry.

divideby05162d ago

^ rating and sales dont mean jack to me...I prefer a better game than a popular game...
I dont know you point..its makes no sense

PLAYSTATIONGENRATION5162d ago

We all know the American Gaming Media Favors the xbox...the proof is in the pudding buddy

BeaArthur5162d ago

nix...to be fair the PS3 version of Bayonetta had some decent framerate issues. I however don't understand the FF13 one though. It's been pretty clear that the PS3 version is the superior version. Oh well, I don't really care, I pay which ever version is better.

thereapersson5162d ago (Edited 5162d ago )

It's a simple solution, really. Who needs Wii fit / motion controls, when you're getting up and down to change discs at a frequent pace?

You get current-gen visuals AND you get to burn some calories. LOL

edit @ beaArthur:

Disc space had nothing to do with Bayonetta's PS3 outing. Platinum Games' lazy PS3 efforts had EVERYTHING to do with the performace of that port. Let me repeat the word for you:

PORT

mastiffchild5162d ago

^^^No, no they aren't. most of their readers are? Yeah, 360 gamers so wouldn't failing to be a little softer on that platform possibly hurt the sites? Course it would. you start making out that your readers backed the wrong horse and you'll end up losing readers, losing sales, selling fewer ads because of less traffic/sales and be in a bind. the differences in scores are tiny anyway even if the FF13 Metacritic thing does mean gamers are given the wrong impression-something Metacritic SHOULD but won't make clear for their readers who ask for a fair, honest service but when that can be affected(deliberately or not) by sites just hammering the game on ONE platform what straight service are gamers getting? when the weaker version is promoted better than the better version someone needs to say something as gamers are being misled and whether by design or not doesn't matter. Also makes Metacritic look and feel redundant esp if some editors of smaller sites are playing them over this issue.

Whatever, the only way PS nd 360 will get toally even treatment would be if they were made in the same place and had equal sized markets and equal portions of site's readers and on English speaking sites there's still a big lead for the 360 so to expect anything other than the sites to write , however slightly, what their readers want to hear is a no brainer and is always gonna happen, imo. Say what you like but this happens on most publications from national papers being slightly softer on their national sports teams to Edge favouring the British devs they speak to more regularly than foreign ones. ?Thes e are small, understandable and often essential features of any site with a partial reader base, no? How else would they survive? In fairness the differences n exclusives scores isn't much, may be the opposite in the East and rarely stops a great game from selling well or staying AAA.

IMO it's just window dressing to prevent readers feeling their purchase is being questioned and that keeps them reading. Simple. Now, if they wer all like Edge and the stats bore out a massive difference between their marks for a certain platforms exclusives and versions compared to Metacritic then we'd have a real issue but it's only Edge with this bizarre problem so is it really the end of games writing? It's also still a young branch of the media and you will get more amatear writers in strong positions and they're likely to be untrained or even carry some fanboy baggage-just let it develop and it should improve but the quickest way would be if Sony got parity of sales in the west(or US/UK really as I'm told French sites often favour the PS3 because it sells better in their country AND they feel no link to MS as they share no common language or nationality unlike the UK/US sites. It' all pretty understandable, imo, even if it'll never be perfect.

I don't like sites just putting out bad reviews of FF13 on the PS3 alone, though, as it REALLY is making the 360 version seem like it's the better one and that isn't fair to gamers looking for advice over which to buy.

saint_john_paul_ii5162d ago

well ffxiii meta reviews, PS3 version has more reviews over the 360 version. just give it time.

but i do agree that the 360 version should of had some points docked off since it looks bad compared to the PS3 version. they did it to Bayonetta.

Tinted Eyes5162d ago

Remember guys, blu ray is completely useless for games :D

thereapersson5162d ago

Don't you know? The only time a multiplatform counterpart gets rated lower is when it's on the PS3. If you rate a multiplatform 360 version of a game lower than the PS3 version, the internet will implode on itself.

The game could be a slideshow on a disc with Atari 2600 graphics, and yet media outlets will rate it the same as the PS3 version, suddenly having the balls to say "differences are negligible; GAMERS FOR THE WIN!"

F*cking pathetic

BeaArthur5162d ago

thereapersson...I'm sorry, could you point out the section of my post where I talked about disc space. I said nothing about disc space at all. I said that the PS3 version had a lower score because it had framerate issues, that is it. Learn to read before you comment. Let me repeat the word for you:

FRAMERATE

Commander TK5162d ago

nuff said. I was looking 4ward for LA Noire, but now it's another gimped game.

Persistantthug5162d ago (Edited 5162d ago )

So basically,

Sites like IGN and Gamespot gave 2 SEPERATE reviews for the smaller Bayonetta game,

But a much bigger game like FINAL FANTASY 13...you mean to tell me it DOESN'T warrant 2 separate reviews?

I smell a fat rat here.

But I'm willing to give it a few days to sort itself out, just on the strength of fairness and all.

StanLee5162d ago

Red Dead Redemption says hello. Team Bondi sucks. The game wasn't going anywhere which is why Sony took the 20 million loss and dumped the game. I'll be playing Mafia II while they try to figure out how to get their heads out their a**es.

m-s-8-25162d ago

$20 million loss? Wasn't that money paid back in the form of development/exclusivity for Agent?

morganfell5162d ago

I agree on GTA IV. The only good thing was the story of Nikko. The execution of that story was poorly handled.

As regards scores, IGN gave GTA IV a 10 in graphics. They stated they award a 10 not because the game is perfect but because a title is pushing the envelop. That means the title was beyond anything else out there in graphics and that is a joke. Uncharted and several other games made GTA IV laughable in that department. But the reviewers were unconcerned about standards or honesty. They were determined to hype that game up beyond it's reality.

It's okay for a reviewer to like a title but they have to maintain some degree of objectivity.

nix5162d ago

that's the disgusting part of this gaming generation. the media are like snakes with split tongues! calling them snakes is disrespecting snakes!

little do they know that they are slowly killing the gaming industry. all the enthusiastic devs will get discouraged if this keeps happening. then all we'll get is generic games. i hope people wake up and realise that biased media is bad for gaming industry.

Persistantthug5162d ago (Edited 5162d ago )

There's no source, There's no Link......there's not even a single quote here.

I've personally never heard of this site, then to top it all off...their name is GOFANBOY.COM.

While BluRay is superior in every way, as we all know, in terms of this article, there just isn't enough to go on.

Sorry gofanboy.com, nothing personal.

acedoh5162d ago

I believe the public at large is slowly turning towards the PS3. Despite Microsoft trying to influence the media with advertising dollars... Although this is nothing new. It happens all the time on t.v. The media would rather be dishonest and misleading than lose their advertising dollars. SONY doesn't spend the same type of money on advertising dollars and that unfortunately influences web sites and their reviews. Even if a reviewer wanted to be honest they would be stopped before the review could be posted. Really we should be thankful that websites like Amazon exist and give the power to the people to post reviews. You still deal with some b.s. but all in all you get the real picture.

corneliuscrust5162d ago

Cell processor frustrating developers.

There will always be things that seem like a hindrance to developers simply because they can't find an easy solution right away.

This is why the PS3 has had some questionable ports, and this is why we will see, more and more, the 360 get some questionable multiplats as devs get used to the extra space blu ray affords.

bpac1234567895162d ago

I highly doubt that you will have to switch discs when moving between towns. Instead you will probably have the story broken up onto multiple discs. So you would still be able to roam the entire world on the first disc but to get to the second half of the story you will have to put in the second DVD.

The Lazy One5162d ago

I hadn't heard that this wasn't a PS3 exclusive anymore. I could care less about disks imo. Though I can see where some people might be upset.

And GTA4 may not have pushed the envelope graphically compared to every game, but compared to sandbox games, it's one of the best looking games ever. It also did a great job for story telling.

I could make an amazingly rendered grain of sand that blows Uncharted 2 out of the water at that scale, but Uncharted 2 has the rest of the level, so it will probably look better. Just like GTA4 has the whole city that adds to the feel of the game rather than a linear set of levels. Comparing them was just silly.

HolyOrangeCows5161d ago

You create a large sandbox game, you're going to have some issues as to how you're going to split up the data on DVDs.

jamesgtaiv5161d ago (Edited 5161d ago )

I really had no idea this was no longer a ps3 exclusive. I may not buy it now. What is not a surprise though, is that the DVD is holding back gaming yet again. Meaning my ps3 copy is going to look like crap because the limitations of cross platforming. If I still had a 360 I would prefer the game be delayed so that each console has unique development and more time dedicated to it. 2 consoles = half a game for each.

TK4215161d ago

Now we wait to see how much content gets cut and how far down the screen resolution goes.

I used to be excited about this game.

Ravage275161d ago

whatever it is - DON'T touch the ps3 version please...don't slaughter the game by making the first two-third portion a linear experience and only opening it up during the last disc for the 360.

jamesgtaiv5161d ago

Mafia 2. It rocks my socks!

jessupj5161d ago

I can just imagine one of the programers working, trying everything to get the game to fit on DVD9 and then after a few hours spits the dummy. "Why the f*ck did those microsoft cheap ass sons of b*tches put outdated dvd9 in that sh*t box!!! RRRAAAAWWWAAAWWWWAAWWAWARRR!!& quot;. /wrists

It's only a joke guys, don't get too offended.

N4BmpS5161d ago

Interesting turn of events T2 wants to push both consoles obviously but they can't exactly do that do to the 360's limitation, why did I just reiterate what this article said anyway it's probably not gonna go back to being exclusive money was already paid for it to be on the 360 although I think there is still a chance of that happening if the developers aren't happy no one will be happy. I hope MS is paying attention, even though I think they'll defend their console regardless.

Silver3605161d ago

If they can't do it with dvd9 then cancel the 360 version. Only reason they doing the 360 version anyway is to sell to a larger install base. So the decision is simple just don't do it.

8thnightvolley5161d ago

MS thinks of replacing the 360 within the next 2 years at most and nothing more.. coz this DVD issue is becoming a thone...and a growning by the day as developer try to make bigger games with higher fidelity the tech is not there to match the produce.. they have to adopt the blu ray or some big storage option or forward the tech that allows dvd to store over 100 times of its original size( i remember an article about taht sometimes last year(google it)). Sony is going get alot of favours from developers and many are going to complain and many more...

note already square enix, rockstar, epic, capcom,Bioware,I d soft, etc have all complained at some point about the DVD limitations and more are going to complain and i dont think MS should sit on their fat ass and not do anything and even have the cheek to charge loyalty cost to developers coz they need extra discs ,,,,...

that is annoying. and u cant blame them going all exclusive to sony or gimping the 360 version.

Coffin875161d ago

Just f*in DUMP it on 360, dammit!!!
Devs, know your limits!
Know your priorities!!!
Draw your conclusions!!!!!

DUMP IT ON 360!!!!!

The Lazy One5161d ago

DVD is hugely over exaggerated in the media and community. It's a design consideration, and as long as developers plan for it, they will be fine. The development community largely doesn't really care about the "limitations" of DVD, because they are barely even limitations.

Biggest5161d ago

What do they call the maximum allowed speed on a road? Speed limit. What do they call the maximum allowed space on a storage unit? You can't make any more game after this number limit. The Xbox360's You can't make any more game after this number limit is 6.8G. You can not make any more game after 6.8G is used. That isn't a limit? Please tell me how you can make more game after 6.8G on a Xbox360 DVD.

menoyou5161d ago

just great, another game gimped because of the 360. I HATE YOU MICROSOFT

vhero5161d ago

I would love one game developer to just come out and say the reason we didnt develop on 360 was because DVD wasn't big enough. Mainly just to shut MS up for saying it was enough not because I want them to lose a game.

morganfell5161d ago (Edited 5161d ago )

Anyone that believes the limitations with DVD9 can simply be planned around understands little to nothing of the developmental process. Nor do they grasp the financial ramifications.

It isn't as simple as "just break up the areas between towns". The compiling of game data doesn't work like that. You also wind up with multiple assets such as audio and textures that have to be duplicated and and inevitably compressed on each and every disc. Add to this the useless requirement from MS to eat up over a GB of space for security that any trip to a warez site shows is absolutely useless.

Now look at the financial side. An engine set to revolutionize next gen gaming more than Crytek 3, the Rage engine, is premiering soon. MS has refused to pay for the 3rd disc for the title game that has been requested by Id. Id nor Bethesda will cough up the money either. That money doesn't fall off of trees. So now items will be cut from the game and the remainder compressed. And the PS3 and PC versions are shafted by the 360.

The lesson? Like money, discs do not grow on trees. You can't just say, "add a disk." It costs real, serious money.

If this were a movie the PS3 and PC would be the two fast runners that were eaten by dinosaurs because they were shackled to the fat kid called 360 who couldn't keep up.

The public needs to understand that development problems are like an iceberg. By the time the public sees or hears about something poking up above water, the issue has swelled to massive proportions at studios. Devs do not spout off at the first bit of trouble. It takes a serious issue with incredible challenges for something to leak to the surface.

sid4gamerfreak5161d ago

"ouch" is the right word. Microsoft is in some deep s(*! right now...
@thehitman

Can a ps3 do movie and music editing? Can it run web building software? Can a ps3 run all sorts of different software? BTW, most of ur games r made on a pc. Talk about retardness...

Silver3605161d ago

It is just a business ploy they complain about the disc size so fan boys can get all agitated and complain to MS. That way they can put the game on 3 discs and have MS reduce or not charge royalties for the extra discs. If they really feel that strongly about the storage space cancel the damn game.

pixelsword5161d ago

The ball is in your court: either put out an unspoiled vision of your game or quit complaining.

What Would Kratos Do5162d ago

Would it be viable for it to be released on 360 as DD only?

BeaArthur5162d ago

Not for me I probably wouldn't have the hard drive space. Although I would probably buy the PS3 version anyways so I don't really care.

corneliuscrust5162d ago

If MS didnt back themselves into a corner with proprietary hard drive options.

It will be interesting to see, though, how ISPs react when we ARE beginning to download 20+GB games... lots of people will hit their bandwidth cap very quickly.

jessupj5161d ago

Yeah, it's definitely not not going to be an option in Australia. Even when technology progresses, ISPs are still going to be little sh*ts and have every single plan capped.

saint_john_paul_ii5162d ago

seriously, lets not make this another "lost Data" guys..

TOO PAWNED5162d ago

I put my cat as a bet they they will do it. If they did it for FF13, they will do it for new IP that had 40 million budget.

GTA5 in trouble for 360?

Denethor_II5162d ago

Don't Xbox will stop GTAV from being a great game you can count on it.

Akagi5162d ago

GTA 4 would have been amazing if it was PC/PS3 only.

corneliuscrust5161d ago

it would have been even better than that as PC only.

What we need is for devs to STOP working for parity between ports. Give each system the game that tailors to the system's strengths

thehitman5161d ago

There is nothing the pc can do that the ps3 cant do. Sure you can buy better gfx cards that output better resolutions but doesnt affect the creative restrictions when a game is being made. Something like storage space effects creative restrictions heavily, which is where the 360 is floating in right now.

L.A. Noire And Bully — Rockstar's Lost Gems That Deserve A Sequel As Much As GTA

Hanzala from eXputer: "I do appreciate GTA 6, Rockstar, but if I could trade it for a new L.A. Noire or a Bully game, I'd do so in a heartbeat."

Skuletor19d ago

How are they lost? You can get L.A. Noire on Steam, PS5, Xbox Series and Nintendo Switch and Bully is on the PS5 and Xbox Series too.

Psychonaut8519d ago

I want a new Manhunt game. But that will never happen.

Demetrius19d ago

Mfs are too sensitive nowadays and would cry instead of being concerned bout real world problems

Demetrius19d ago

Whenever gta 6 launch we won't be getting another rockstar title for another 10 years lol but on the positive side they bou to come back n show how open world supposed to be done 🔥

Skuletor19d ago

I won't expect any singleplayer DLC like IV's The Lost & Damned or The Ballad of Gay Tony after it launches either

Baffles me when people have these opinions about acclaimed games 😂

RhinoGamer88125d ago

100% agree... not perfect, but an engaging/refreshing experience.

sagapo125d ago

Agree, at time of release those facial expressions were amazing! They still hold strong even today imo.
The game on its own was good. Something fresh, but sidequests were a bit meh after a while.

Nacho_Z125d ago

I picked it up on sale recently, going to play it next summer. I'll get more out of it this time, first time around I treated the open world like it was GTA and goofed about, whereas now I'll play it with more respect. RDR2 has trained me well.

I also hadn't read Raymond Chandler at the time so presumably that'll add another layer of enjoyment too.

1nsomniac125d ago (Edited 125d ago )

Absolutely stunning game. So underrated. Played through it again last year and it still stands up so well. Like many of rockstars games it’s actually a far better experience on PC. I didn’t enjoy it as much on console. Completed it at least 3 times on pc.

The rumours of a sequel are awesome news despite the fact I think Rockstar are now the shell of the company they once were.

Six Best Historically Accurate Games

GF365: "Out of the many historically accurate games out there, these are our picks for the six best games that are historically accurate. While these games aren't completely accurate, they depict the times and situations of history well. Plus, they're all a lot of fun to play, too."

Historically accurate from the past is tough to truly know and judge especially the farther you go back because history is written from the people in power and doesn’t mean it’s the truth just the narrative they wanted to tell.

I don’t care about historically accurate in most games because they are games not biographies or history books . Just make the game fun , good gameplay and such .

Ghost of Tsushima wasn’t historically accurate in many things but I loved the game . Many examples like it .
