IGN: PS3 in Last Place in Japan

Nintendo continues to tear up the Japanese sales charts with the most unthreatening of game releases. Friend Collection remained at the top of Media Create's weekly sales charts this week, staying level with its sales for the past few weeks and slowly climbing its way towards a million units.

The casual-friendly DS title, which lets players place their Mii collection in a virtual world, beat out a few major new releases. Soul Calibur Broken Destiny and Super Robo Academy, both heavily promoted, didn't even cross the 30,000 mark. D3 Publisher's Xbox 360 host club sim, Dream Club, debuted with 46,000 units -- an impressive figure considering the system's limited audience.

that the last week of August in particular is giving alot of press by the media. Why?. Because the PS3 is at its lowest in Japan?. I never believe that the media is biased but this is starting to change that.

Anytime an article comes up about the PS3 in last place you guys allways spin by saying things like "teh shortages" or "wait untill next week" or you blaim IGN, Gamespot, Joystiq, Kotaku, Destructoid, Gametrailers or 1up and say "MS is paying them". The fact is the PS3 has been last for 3yrs now and all those PS3 predictions in 2007, 2008, 2009 and now 2010 have yet to come true. If that isn't bad enough there have been so many "judgment day" games that were supposed to destroy the 360 like MGS4, LBP, Resistance, Killzone 2, Uncharted and now it's God of War and Uncharted 2.

For the past 3yrs you guys have been saying "just wait" and you're still waiting. The PS3 isn't even doing that great in Japan, its own backyard. Whats realy sad is the Playstation brand has come off a 130 million install base for the PS2. It went from first to dead last. Ok the Slim will boost sales for the PS3 for the next couple of months but it will die down like it has in the past 3yrs. Even all your RROD articles you PS3 fans have wrote has had no effect on the 360.

Jason should also realize that right now the Wii is in first place and even the 360 hasn't won anything. I dont know about that. I've owned just about every system out there, and in real life, outside of the strange world that is N4G, you don't hear much negativity about any of the current consoles other then the xbox rrod issue, and the PS3=too expensive (although not anymore).

The only real knock on the ps3 IMO is that the psn still has a ways to go to equal xboxlive, and the fact that most people are surprised that a system that sold a gazillion copies (ps2) would come out of the gate so sluggish with thier next system. It's not a failure by any means, but I don't think any true gamer thought that it would sell so slow, especially outside of Japan.

So some negativity is warranted, but it still isn't the big issue that n4g seems to make it out to be (for both systems I might add).

Before you open your mouth you should observe the state of the ps3 in japan instead of drawing conclusions based off of 1 month of sales. Sony stopped shipping the "phat" ps3's in anticipation of the slim, which in turn caused the stock to dry up. This was done for two reasons. 1. economy 101 tells us that low supply increases demand. So sony is artificially increasing demand for the slim. 2. In order to align the ps3 with the slim imgage and the new marketing direction they discontinued production of the "phat" ps3 which created a shortage as the ps3 sales in japan have remained steady over the course of the ps3's life there... Now you bring up wii sales, we know the wii is selling like alcohol flows at a lynard skynard concert, ALOT... But the 360 is being brutalizied by both the ps3 and wii in that region. We stopped comparing wii sales with the ps3 and 360 a long long time ago as there is no hope for either company to surpass the wii in the foreseeable future. So do us a favor, scroll to the top of your screen. You see that tab that says open zone? Yea that one, click it and embrace your new home...

Crudely, it's a tactic that sites use to get hits. I was a little surprised to see IGN use it this way, but every writer is different.

As for the title itself, anyone with a brain who has been following the consoles on the internet knows that the PS3 is overall not last in Japan; so getting pissed off over a few paragraphs and a slightly ironic title is wasted energy. The title does not bother or annoy me. Apparently though, like Evo stated above, it has done its job.

By the way, to those that are b!tching that we "didn't read the article", PLEASE start caring to get the issues behind the comments we're posting. I know that's hard for some of you to do, but it's necessary if you want to, you know, have an intelligent conversation/debate/whatever. It's about the title and the wording being misleading and baiting. So what if they actually did say why? Fact is that they threw that in there as a way to make it look like they were objective, when the exaggerated that they were in last place with trying to not say why (they had to in order to keep SOME cred).

Remember, this was the same site that tried to plagiarize Torrence Davis and the Bitbag a few times, and have been known to been factually wrong in their reporting. So would it surprise you if they tried to get SOME hits out of this with a misleading headline and wording (remember, who gives a sh!t if they actually said why? It's not that I don't KNOW that they said why, it's that I don't CARE that they said why)? It shouldn't, and you should expect it.

Well, I have to admit, I haven't been keeping up with IGN as of late, but what happened? I always knew there were more 360 fans than PS3 over there, but they at least tried to remain objective. Their articles were nice and thorough. Their reviews even better, but, now, it's as if they don't even care about their reputation. They were my favorite, but now I don't know. I knew journalistic integrity in the gaming field was f#cked, but IGN may have just erased every last trace of credibility left.
