Duke Nukem Announcement Coming Next Week

Apogee Software's COO Terry Nagy has revealed that a press release regarding new Duke Nukem info will arrive sometime next week.

I can't see that team pumping out a multiplatform game without at least six months to a year in between times.

I also think Microsoft will want this in their stable because of the grip they have on America, and DN is an American Gaming Icon; which will make American 360 gamers happy.

And as far as a Wii or Sony game, It's possible for both, but less likely for either. I can't see them hashing the quality of the game or making Wii controls for the wii. I can't see them bringing this to the PS3 because they didn't bring any DN games to the PS3 either. Now I CAN see SONY getting this for the PS3 IF they realize that DN is an American Gaming Icon.

Since the PC to 360 importation is a easy process, and Microsoft wants to move 360's, I'm almost sure that Microsoft's getting a 360 "exclusive" that will convert PC owners to the 360, then porting over to the PC on Games for Windows after about a year.

Technically Apogee still owns Duke Nukem Forever. 3D Realms is sub section of Apogee and Apogee is still around so anything is possible. It is true. Its on 3D Realms website that Apogee Software Ltd. is copyright at the bottom and mentioned as 3D Realms's legal name in some news posts.

More than likely if it is involving DNF though its a good announcement. I think they are doing it just to tease. As they always do with Duke Nukem. This whole idea of 3D Realms closing still doesn't compute with me. Especially with statements like this in their archives.

I think we're one of the best places a developer would want to work, and the structure we develop games under--ignoring arbitrary business and financial issues--is conducive to us making many more hits in the future.

Yes we really care because Duke Nukem is one of the biggest legends in the whole gaming world and those who played Duke 3D KNOW this would've been an awesome game.

Maybe you think DN is just another FPS franchise like Doom or Quake, but no. Doom and Quake are great, but Duke is special. Duke has a place in our hearts, as gamers. He's like a childhood hero. He represents awesomeness at the highest level possible.

but do you really want a new duke to inevitably ruin the franchise? look at the train wreck of that new matt hazard game. in todays market, a another duke nukem will end up just being another mediocre shooter packed so full of cliches that you'd be hard pressed not to want to gorge your brains out by the end of it. the origionals worked, and they were great. but those were different times. your just gonna have to accept that its over, or be prepared to be very disappointed.

Actually Duke Nukem never was an FPS franchise, the original games were brilliant 2d platformers way back in the early nineties, then Duke Nukem 3D came out later, and most people have never played the original games, which is their loss.

Most people (including myself) played Duke Nukem on the Pc so it could b a gold mine 4 Ms if they did (id buy it)

While I believe that the demise of 3DRealms is real, if it were a publicity stunt, it would be a successful one. They also released some trailers/concept arts/screenshots of the game, and most of them looked somewhat good for an unfinished game. There's also all these rumours and stories like the chair thing with Cliffy B. going around and really putting DNF back in the mind of gamers. And there's also the Duke Nukem trilogy coming out soon.

DNF is everywhere in the gaming medias these days, so announcing it will be released later this year at E3 would really give the game a huge publicity push.

Also, that "Take2 has decided to stop funding" reason seems odd to me. I thought 3DR said a few years ago that they we're funding themselves using revenues from royalties in franchise like Max Payne (which got a movie and a 3rd game announced), Prey (I believe Prey 2 was announced) and DN (with the DN trilogy coming out soon). I mean, T2 probably stopped funding them years ago seeing that they were not releasing any games.

Well, for us old farts this game is iconic. Back before the HD wars, back before Gamestop, Trade A Game and before gaming was mainstream, DN WAS the badass. Imagine if HALO took 13 years for the next game, then MS shut it all down and then all of a sudden we were told it might actualy see the light of day. In 2021, all the youngins would be like, "Halo what? Who cares!?!" Well, a lot of old schoolers WOULD care. I'm not saying Halo is the end all be all by any means, just using it to make a point for the impact a game can have on someone.

Come get some. Man, that brings back memories. My roomate and I used to barter for the other's portion of the bills for the month to get the controller for just one more second...

You will never explain that to the little kids on here who don't care. I have been playing the Duke since his side scrollin days. The last few on the PS2 were real stinkers, because they were made by a different company. The rock music, the interactivity, the one-liners, the secrets, the huge alien bosses, all combined to make one bad ass game.

Duke Nukem 3D is one of the few games, that the graphics do not matter. It is a true example of a game that has stood the test of time.

I think when the young kids on here think of Duke, they think of the PS2 games, that were severely crippled and just didn't have the Duke feel.

i think Dukem should be on the playstation brand!! since Duke Nukem 3D and Duke Nukem Road 2 kill came out on Playstation one and pc so i think it should be a playstation exclusive and i think sony should by them out

If the rumor is true that MS bought the Duke Nuken company ......the bigest announcement from then in the E3 will be to reveal that Duke Nuken Forever will be exclusive on the Xbox360.

I am a Sony fanboy but I hope that what I said above become true because we , the gamers that will win with that since Sony will have to do even better in 2010 then what their are doing this year.

Microsoft really needs more exclusive games for this gen and get even more prepered to be launched in the next gen.

I always confuse this game with quake wars and Doom. All these games look the same and i really don't know what the big deal is with these games.

If you go the XBOX route, download it on XBOX Live Arcade. If you know how to get and use Roms, then download for your PC. You will have fun. Don't let the graphics put you off, concentrate on the game play and the weapons. Also there are tons of secrets. Lots of interactive parts in the game, huge boss battles.

It is a great game because games were really pussified, until this game came around and made them "Come Get Some!"

the weapons were amazingly wonderful. just try to imagine what the multiplayer would be like with these weapons...

a shrink gun - shrink your opponents down to the size of a mouse, then squish em with your boot. can be reflected against mirrors

the freeze ray - freeze your opponents, then boot em to ice pieces. can also be reflected on mirrors

laser trip mines

pipe bombs - lay a ton of these things next to a health kit, then run to your nearest security camera control panel and set em off when your opponent gets close

holoduke - set's up a holographic duke that you can use to ambush your opponent with

steroids - for that extra boost

the setting of the game was very open air in many levels, which made one of the most important accessories one of the best, the jet pack. just fly off to one side of the area and wait for the opponent to go through the door...they never think to look up!

you got areas set in strip clubs, football stadiums, space stations, the wild west, alien homeworlds, porno stores, flooded cities, japanese villas, etc...

pair that up with some awesome one liners, some topless women, gore, and swearing, and you got yourself a game that was and still is ahead of its time.

May be the trailer is old, but I am totally turned off by it. Duke Nukem may be the thing back 12 years ago, but now it just seems...mediocre (judging on the trailer which may not be the final build)

Duke Nukem is not mentioned in those debates because it wouldn't be interesting. Know why? Because you can't call it a fight if it only lasts four seconds and Duke rips off Kratos' and Master Chief's head and pukes in their skulls. Let's just say he's the Chuck Norris of the gaming world. Hmmm. Not that would be an interesting matchup: Chuck Norris v. Duke Nukem.
